I did the same thing. People need to hear this song. It's a shame its not being made available to a wider audience - he should get it in stores as a rush CD single.

I feel it is every bit as strong and important as Sign o' the Times.

I don't think it's strong enought to reach the masses. The music is kinda weak but the lyrics are thought-provoking. They would also have the tendency to piss people off a la Dear Mr. Man (and there was a lotta truth in that song too)

nod a new "sott" it is definitely not.

Just got this email from NPGMC:

Hello NPGMC

B sure 2 look 4 "SST", the new cybersingle from Prince.
Now available in the Musicology Download Store.

Watching the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina's wrath, Sade's
"Sweetest Taboo" was put on a loop. After which Prince
wrote "SST" early Friday morning, Sept 2nd, after staying up
all night. He sang all the voices and played all the
instruments. "Brand New Orleans" (featured in Glam Slam this
weekend) is the xtended jam at the end of "SST." All instruments
again by Prince. Just a lil somethin' 2 take away the
blues.

All proceeds from the sale of the cybersingle will go 2
Hurricane Relief.

It's funny that the BNO is the continuation of STT, when the San José Jam was more or less the continuation of the DMSR download from seprember.

The lyrics are of the meanderingly cryptic kind -- it doesn't have the topicallity of SOTT or Dance On. It goes about with one allusion after another like Avalanche. He seems appalled by what happened but not very specific. The music is well-crafted -- I like the Sade connection.

Does anyone have the lyrics!

Just heard it and its a very simple yet unique melody and song. I mean compared to what is on radio today even a simple song from Prince is miles beyond the best of some singers/bands. A new song from him is like a fresh breeze in a desert.
Lyrically, it is good too although I can still tell his thinking is still toward Jehovah Witness endoctrination. Just like 1+1+1=3 is a dig at the Christian belief that God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are One manifest in 3 different ways (JW's cant understand that), so Prince is implying also in this song that one should only call God by "Jehovah" and not believe in the trinity or calling upon the name of Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Those who arent JW's or studied JW teachings may not see or understand that but its easy for me to see.
Regardless, it is a cool song and I enjoy it even though I may disagree with his views of God he is writing and reflecting where he is now and fortunately we all can grow and relearn.

Who will b a guest in ur tent?

Certainly not the ones who don’t wanna repent
And keep giving guns 2 the poorest of our nation sons
Who is gonna call u by name?
With no confusion, trinity or preacher's vain?
Who says that everytime
And opens up the eyes of the blind
Who will b the 1 in his bed?
Certainly not the 1's who put thorns on his head
And wish him dead while they took his daily bread
Which 1 is of value 2 u?
The 1 depleting the oil supply
Or the One that renews it
And keeps the peace
Like the groove on Sade’s Sweetest Taboo

Who will b a guest in ur tent?
R u gonna b happy with how ur life has been spent?
Did u have open arms 4 each and everybody you met
Or did U let them die in the rain?
Endless war, poverty or hurricane…
Then it’s time 4 another groove
Like Sade’s Sweetest Taboo

yes - it's very prince circa now...though 'brand new orleans' sure does remind me of madhouse 16.

Man, I'm loving this song! music
So often, songs written for relief efforts are hokey and overblown, but this little ditty kicks ass. The lyrics and the music are excellent!
I hope and pray the Clear Channel Radio execs get off THEIR asses and put this song on the airwaves, cause it has the potential to raise mucho dinero for Hurricane Katrina victims.

Anyone having problems with accessing this track via windows media player 10? I re-accsed the CheckDRM file as well as SST, and both tracks come up with an error message C00D11DA . I have never had the problem until now.

Anyone?

I'm having problems downloading the track. Not sure I'm seeing the same issue though. I have paid for the track but it looks like the Download link is not working. Perhaps the server cannot cope with the demand? Guess I'll have to try again later.

Just announced on NPGMC, a new Prince song entitled 'SST' will be available any minute.

It appears from PP6's comments that it is Prince's response to hurricane Katrina.

Watch out for it

[Yes, indeed - the song has hit NPGMC's Musicology download area, and is available for 99 cents....77 cents for club members. GO GET! Also, check out the new flash intro with a preview of the sound and lyrics. - Anx]

Way to go Prince! It's good to see that he's doing his part to help those people in N.O who are in need.

Why the hell are we putting up with this DRM shit? I'm looking to download it from a file-sharing network, just because the file I want to play is not available for my architecture. I'd pay the 77 cents, or more, if it bloody well worked!

A coupla thoughts for those interested...

First... the line referring to the Trinity...

During soundcheck at the Dallas ONA show, the was a girl in the second row (and NOT a member, but someone who won tix on the radio) who had some sort of moving experience between songs. She started chanting stuff to Prince about the Holy Trinity in a very peculiar way. Prince, bein' the cool brotha that he is, handled it very well. He said to her that there was no trinity, but ONE TRUE God. It was a tense, but interesting moment. When I listened to SST for the first time and heard that line, it made me wonder...

Next... to anyone concerned about TOO MUCH politics in music, I just wanna say that maybe we should consider stop referring to the victims in New Orleans as Katrina victims, and maybe levee-neglected citizens. Katrina wasn't the true villain... Just a thought...

Lastly... love the song, and the extended jam. Thanks Prince...

Peace, and keep it on the 1,

peterv
