I don't know why you are looking for anything resembling logic in the way concert sales go these days... razz lol

That takes a lot of work, the project scope would've been "Allow customers to book tickets on website". Nothing more nothing less. The desirables just take way too long to implement and it's a time/effort/cost vs reward thing. They're still going to get paid regardless.

I have a pending 'IT Support ticket' open with Ticketek to investigate why my credit card is blocked, up to 72 hrs to get a resolution.

Lucky Sydney Opera House website has a proper payment gateway and I got a ticket there instead which ended up being better than the ones Ticketek proposed to me anyway.

Sounds like an algorithm waiting to be coded and sold to ticketing companies*

logistically it is surely going to be a nightmare collecting our wristbands and showing ID etc when everyone is arriving around the same time?? That's a thousand odd people to get through in a pretty short window of time so its looking like we're all going to have to get there really early to avoid unneeded stress!!

[Edited 2/9/16 17:10pm]

If you can, get away from work and go early afternoon, that's the way to go.

Here's my day planened out*

Plan 1.

08.45 AM Be at the Fox Bar in Auckland's Viaduct to watch Arsenal v Barcelona.

10.30 AM A nice brunch somewhere with fellow fans (Arsenal or Prince - Don't care)

12.00 PM collect tickets and wrist bands.

12.15 PM A sunny spot by the water for a few cheeky beers. (not too many or the dam will burst)

2.00 PM Go home and watch Prince videos with a couple of mates also going to the shows.

4.00 PM, Shower, shit and a shave

4.15 PM Uber.

4.35 PM Realise I'm in town way too early and have nothing to do but drink which I don't want.

4.36 PM JB HI-FI (troll music counter by asking release date for my own non existent album)

6.00 PM Early arrival for show one.

8.00 PM Off to Depot for some of Auckland's finest grub.

10.00 PM A more relaxed arrival time for show two.

12.00-8.00 AM Lie awake in bed. I can't sleep. I'm now on a downer that will last days.

*Itinerary conginent on aquiring tickets.

Plan Two.

Watch game at home.

Spend the res tof the day in bed in tears playing "A case of U" on repeat.

Sounds like a plan, or

4PM - Kiwi Prince fan meet up, we all go to a nearby cafe and bar, talk shit and at 6pm go down 2 the show, 8.30pm get a meal and maybe hang around the stage if Pricne is coming to test the piano or something, I mean you never know.

18 hours 17 minutes to go, gonna be by the computer screen ready 2 strike da funk!!!

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Passionate? You should see us in the sack. lol

It's a novelty for us. Ok, seen him a dozen times elsewhere but on home soil is very exciting. No flight or hotel costs for a change so 2 X $400 tickets seems like a bargain compared to what I usually have to fork out.

I think they organised it last minute when they saw demand was high and that they could extend the amount of tickets that were at the $400 mark to almost the whole venue. They thought let's organise putting in a CD that way people will be less likely to complain because they are getting something for it.

My way of thinking is that surely Prince lets promoter know his price per show. Let's say $200,000 plus expenses. Then it is up to the promoter to find venue, etc etc and sell tickets. Prince gets his 200K no matter what. The promoter can charge whatever he wants to the show. I'm happy I eventually got tiks but I'd be happier if I knew that the majority of the money goes to Prince and only a little bit to the promoter. Unfortunately with the ways the ticket prices were manipulated I am assuming that the promoter made a huge chunk of the profit for very little risk.

Prince would be getting around 800K to a million or more per show flat fee regardless of sales I would think.

I agree. I used 200K as an example. I would think for these shows he'd be asking 500K per show plus expenses. The rest of the money goes to promoter etc.

Can someone explain why they have so many singles but not pairs left? Surely when the seats are allocated by computer, they don't leave single spaces between sales all over the place like when people choose thier own seats at the movies and do that.

Approximately half the rows in Melbourne have an odd number of seats. That might explain some of it; a bit.

I bought my tix directly from the ticketek outlet (was lucky to get the cheapest option for the Opera House). The dude at the counter told me that there were only 2 rows of the $100 tix in the entire venue. eek eek

Opera House holds just just under 2700 people and State Theatre just over 2700. Roughly 2000 tickets at $400 a ticket over 4 shows = $3,200,000. Even if he played 2 hours per show, that's a $400,000 per hour pay day. Plus Melbourne, plus NZ, plus the cheap seats and merch.

But you know, it's all about the music.

Imagine how much harder it would have been for you all to get tickets if there were loads of $200 and $100 seats and few $400 ones. The high price for most tickets is what scared the casuals off and freed the way for the hardcore. I know loads of people who are keen to go in Auckland but only if they can get cheap tickets so it's all good.

If anyone wants to geek out and look at all the specifications of the Sydney Opera House (sound, lighting, stage, facilities all that and then some) I found this pretty interesting PDF earlier:

I cannot believe that tickets for the Opera House are still available now!

Yesterday there were only VIP packages left, so I had to buy one. Good seat though, but a total rip off. Now I can get one one row further back for 400. Grrr.

So now everything is booked. Flight from LAX arriving in the morning of the show (I hope I won't be so jetlagged that I fall asleep in the hotel room and wake up after the show) and a hotel nearby.

An expensive weekend, but I'm excited smile

@Laydown,

I hear what you're saying about seeing Prince outside of Australia.I've only ever seen him perform in Sydney on his previous 3 tours.

For me it's not being able to get the time off work more so than the money. Also I feel a bit greedy as I'm going to the 4 Sydney shows. I dont want to take a spot off the NZ fans.

If the hotel prices are crazy, then ... go crazy! Punch a higher floor!!

I'll be happy to be in the same city as Prince. And wondering if he'll go shopping in the afternoon, like Michael Jackson did - and I'd been in the same bookstore - small, up the stairs in a warehouse-type building and along the corridor - I'd been in that same bookstore he went to only the day before.

If Prince wants a tour guide for an afternoon of sightseeing in Melbourne I'll be available.

I wonder what he will play! Out of 39 albums of material... I wonder how similar to the PP gigs the set list will be. I wonder how improv it will be and I hope! I'm sure we all do, each gig will be different, there's going to be surprises, rarities, and he's going to take us on a musicial journey we haven't seen or heard before. There will be fans there but also some curious casual fans who will expect some radio hits. I think we are all in for a real treat.

I'm expecting some piano solo favourites but I'm also hoping for some never heard before or never or rarely played live tracks or tracks not played for a long time and some interpretations that will blow our minds. I hope there's not too many medleys, some are okay but I'd love to hear some long full renditions.

I'm sure he has a few tricks up his very talented sleeves. He's always done a lot of classics alone in recordings but not live. It's going to be very interesting and special few nights for us to experience. So happy right now. Thankful! And grateful!

Yeah, I'm hoping for lots of extended improvising and taking chances, and as many non-standard songs as possible. Full songs, not medleys.
