EUROPEAN TOUR: 'Prince spotlight: Piano and a Microphone' tour - Part III - Postponed According to konzerthaus.at (vienna venue) the tour itself is postponed because of paris - not only the ticket sales.
konzerthaus.at says:
Due to the tragic events in Paris, the tour promoter has decided to postpone the upcoming European tour until further notice.

Don't mean to be cynical, but I think, in Prince's mind, the tour was already "postponed / cancelled" before Friday night.

might or might not be - but now it is official ...

I think this was the right decision to make. The atmosphere just feels too tense. |

the danish tour promoter Kim Worsøe from ICO tells the same, the tour is postponned due to the tragic attacks in Paris: [Edited 11/16/15 3:25am]
As we wrote last week, the plan was that the Prince should go on solo tour in Europe with two Danish concerts before Christmas. Now Princes Danish agent Kim Worsøe from ICO, however, issued a press release in which he writes that the tour has been postponed. [Edited 11/16/15 3:39am] Prince 4Ever.

Why do you say that? Were ticket sales poor or something?

Scalpers were starting to sell the tickets before they were even to go on sale. Thus, Prince postponed them until they found out who did this. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Time out...
Many people are dead and injured. As much as I love Prince, it is not importand at this point in time. I was in the Bataclan 3 weeks ago enjoying Maceo, I wanted to go there for Lianne LeHavas, I want them safe. I want us safe. The security staff who looked at my ticket, the people who took my coat, the people who served my drink, sold the merchadise may no longer be with us. Maybe some of the same people were there on Friday. They may be dead or injured or lost loved ones.
It doesn't matter that Prince cancelled or plays. We have no right to question his motive. It is not safe, a country is in mourning and he has cancelled are the only facts there are.
Let's take time out and reflect.

Without doubt it is the right thing to do.
It's great that Prince wants to get the ticketing right and also we need time to reflect.
There will always be another time to party - and as long as we stay safe, there will be many more opportunities.

In my view life should get back to normal ASAP. Not forgetting about the tragic events and not being disrespectful, but NOT being afraid and NOT giving in. I think we all have a duty to carry on living our lives as we want, we MUST keep going to bars, restaurants, concerts and the like, just as we must keep feeling free to say what we feel. I think this is the wrong call. We shall not be bowed. We must not be bowed.

I don't get this decision. The events in Paris are the worst terrorist attacks that happened in Europe for more then ten years. But what does that have to do with a concert tour by Prince? Is everybody here in Europe supposed to stay at home now? For how long? Are we not allowed to have a life no longer? And what is the message of Princes signature song, 1999? Party in the light of the apocalypse, of course! And furthermore: Who bemourns the 250.000 casualties of the civil war in Syria? In Syria, there have been "events" like the ones in Paris literally every day for more then two years now. Does anyone cancel concerts because of that? I sure don't want to hurt nobody's feelings. But for me, everybody who says that we should take a time out now to reflect is a hypocrit. You should reflect every day of your life. And go out, go to a concert, a restaurant, a football game. Staying home and being afraid doesn't help no one but the terrorists.

Lots of events are being cancelled - sporting, musical and otherwise. You cannot expect there to be NO effect whatsoever. It will just take time to adjust. It doen NOT mean victory for the terrorists - that is far too simplistic and crass. They have not destroyed our way of life and the Parisians will find their feet soon - but they have introduced a temporary glitch, but that is to be expected. The country is in mourning, but they will come back strong.
You can't point fingers at people for making decisions like this - they are tough decisions to make and if Prince comes in the New Year, then life is still going on as normal, no? ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Nowhere is completely safe - atrocities take place in every country all over the world, all the time. Your statement is virtually meaningless. For 99.9% of the time, it is safe to be in any major city. Once or twice a year for a few hours these cowards manage to cause death and destruction. It is pretty safe compared to living in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan etc, where that is a permanant threat.

Taking aside any other issues- it's totally understandable that Prince wouldn't want to fly to Europe right now, in the same way that us Europeans didn't feel comfortable flying into America right after 9/11, regardless of whether there were threats or not.

For the best, sadly... I hope he just postpones and still plays in the end rather than it just being forgotten about completely.

Yeah right - and he realised about that just 30 minutes before tickets would go on sale last Friday. While that decision was made for the best, I can't believe for a second he wasn't aware of such a practice from Ticketmaster's secondary outlets and the likes.
I think it's more he had a change of heart, or had second thoughts about such a 'long term' commitments (a month-long tour), or simply other plans or ideas crossed his mind.
Said this, as enthusiastic as I was about this tour, the 'time' just don't feel right anymore after the Paris' attacks. So be it.

I think Prince made the right decision and also many other artists are doing the same, including the Foo Fighters and Marilyn Manson. It just doesn't feel safe, you cannot expect the public to feel safe in any major city in Europe right now. I remember it was the same here in London when they bombed the tube and buses and in Mumbai it was the same after the attack in the Taj hotel (where I have stayed before) a few years back.
The atmosphere simply isn't right for a string of high profile public events right now, especially not concerts, given the specificities of this attack. |
