Thanks for the reviews, Empty Room, Something in the Water, Electric Intercourse... bliss.

Wonder if they will do a different rare song each night, to mix things up?

My first Prince gig.

I thought it was amazing!!

He played way more well known songs than I thought I would be ever lucky enough to hear.

Amazed that he has still got the moves and such a wonderful live voice.

Only gutted that we only got one tiny encore, I stayed in my seat until the cleaners came in as I was convinced he would do more, no such luck.

Mind you, that being said, he hardly left the stage for the whole show.

It was great, more than I had hoped it would be.

Thanks Prince xxx

P.s. if anyone heard the black car blasting old skool Prince on the way out of the carpark, that was us cool

With regards to the numbers on hands in the queue.. is this so you can leave to go to the toilet or get a drink and come back and rejoin your place in the queue?

Just checking.. I don't wanna get a number, leave, then come back 30 minutes later to find I have to join the queue at the back lol

It was amazing! I wanted to be RIGHT AT THE FRONT...and managed it. Right on the rail. Perfect.

Considering it was a lovely day, and that we only joined the queue at midday it couldn't've been better.

The security were SO friendly, it was shocking! And they way they dealt with our numbered hands was spot-on: the whole business so very stress-free!

As everyone else has mentioned the set was a brilliant mix, he obviously made sure to add the extra hits for the arena crowd, but that was fine by me.

I'm another one who didn't even notice he missed out the word 'intercourse', LOL, must've just been filling in the blanks for him!

Full length How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore was a highlight...It was a special sing-along-a-moment for me, apologies where necessary to anyone who had to listen to that biggrin

Shame about no real encore - can always do without Play That Funk Music... played by anyone, even Prince - I was saying 'he always comes back' , repeatedly, whilst being ushered out of the arena lol Again, really friendly security.

If I have a complaint it's not to do with the show... I'm not sure suited chaps on the side of the stage shining torches out onto , I assume photo-taking, audience members makes for a completely comfortable atmosphere. That seemed a bit of a 'yeah, chill out' moment.

But in all, I had a great time. Whilst I wasn't there, so don't really know what I missed, I no longer feel so bad about not being able to manage February's shows.

Didn't bother with any merchandise: I love Prince but hate bad quality t-shirts and hoodies so I left them where they were.

And there's purple confetti on my kitchen floor...perfect.

Had the torch fellas at KOKO to - I can understand peeps have been asked not to take pictures but wading through the crowd, pushing oeoe out the way in the hope of locating somebody with a grainy picture whilst disrupting everybody else...is it really worth it?

Oh, I've definitely heard it biggrin

I was probably too busy explaining how exciting it was that he was playing it, to notice that it was 'edited' or just singing it myself.

Yet another great gig! Stood dead centre about 5 rows back and had an amazing view! Highlight was Electric Intercourse, incredible song and so glad he kept to the original lyrics(albeit dropping the 'intercourse'). Something in the water is just a wonderful song, I love this reworked version. Sound was so-so, not bad enough for me not to enjoy the experience. My one wish is for Prince to go back to his cloud guitar for some of his solo's especially on the older tracks, I just love the tone of those guitars! 😃

Great night. Was starting to prepare myself for a "hits" show (no bad thing!) after the opening salvo so really surprised and delighted with some of the deep cuts pulled out (especially Electric Intercourse - although I think I 'missed' the first 15 seconds due to an internal argument of whether he was really actually playing Electric Intercourse - "Wake up Henry!)

To be fair I would have been shocked at hearing Electric Intercourse live so it would have taken me more than 15 seconds to register the fact!

Was the stage flat or did it have a little walkway into the crowd as the seating plan suggested?

Brilliant gig, my thoughts.

1. Queued at 5.30 got 5th row could of been near front if had'nt gone for food, no need to queue all day really.

2. Sound was fine, yes it was bass heavy at times, it was in Manc but I thought that added to the music not buggered it up.

3. I'd like to take a sample of sound moaners and get them to engineer a Prince gig, see how they manage.

4. Why do women insist on talking to each other throughout the gig, saw 2 do it in the middle of a blistering solo. Unless you're house is on fire SHUT THE FUCK UP! I'm off to the toilet AND do you want a drink, are the only sentences that should be uttered at a gig.

I enjoyed it anyroad, worth the money, good night, good tunes!

Organisation was good.

First 175 (ish) people to arrive were given standing wristbands and had their hand numbered. About 4.30 security explained we'd be first to enter the building (where we could go to the loo, buy merch, etc) and then we would re-queue again to get into the arena. Essentially all were walked in by security in number order to ensure that those who got their first were best rewarded. Only after the first 175 did everyone else get in - they were held in a separate queue a bit further back.

Not sure if this is standard for LG or any other arena gigs these days - Prince is the only person I go anywhere early for!!! I'm generally happy to mooch along last minute and chance it for anyone else...

Ah man, disappointing. We were standing towards the back (the only way my girlfriend could get a view) and the sound wasn't great at all. Felt detached from the gig - would've helped if they had decent big screens with good closeups so we could see the whites of his eyes - would make you feel part of the concert. Perhaps I was hyped up too much with high expectations after seeing so many times since '88 and recently at Shepherds Bush. Lacked that X-factor for me - shame - although "Let's go crazy reloaded" was monumental and "Electric Intercourse" a lovely surprise. Get down to the front if you're going on Monday.

HW3004,

Was the only benefit of getting their early that you got the opportunity to buy merch etc first then? If you had to re-queue then getting there early didn't mean that you got closer to the front?

I thought the concert was fantastic

I thought it was better than the one I went to see in Manchester in February, although for me still far too long guitar solos on times which results in the crowd switching off. I know thats his thing to show his skills but it goes on a little sometimes.

Something in the Water, Hot Thing, Housequake faves for me

Wondering if anyone who went last night could answer a question about merchandise please? Are you able to buy programmes before entering the arena, or only once inside? The reason I ask if I'm going on Monday (yay!) and am standing, and really want to get a programme but don't want to carry it around with me as would be a nuisance, would rather buy it, take it back to the car, and then go in empty handed. The other option is to buy at the end, but I think I heard they sold out last night.

I was there last night. I think it unlikely you'd be allowed a 'pass out' of the Arena foyer (which is where the merch is) to go back to the car. They do sell 'em at the end but there is the risk of them selling out I suppose. You could put the call out on the Manchester thread for a kind soul to buy one for you. I read someone else doing that.

They have a (glass)fenced-off smoking area, so can't see that they would have a system in place to leave and then come back in, no. Lots of people buying at the end but I suppose there's a risk of them running out.

Really good gig. Not his best but solid. Loved the rock/heavy sound and tonnes of solos. Loved the mix of hits, new songs and real rare stuff (as everyone says hearing Electric Intercourse, without the Intercourse - was awesome surprise).

No way it could have been as good as Manchester Academy (no way any arena gig could compare anyway - especially when he played Colonized Mind and Bambi) but still a good gig.

There was definitely some technical issues that delayed the gig starting on time (could see some activity backstage) which likely means we would have got more but hey ho.

Others have said it but for first several songs the sound was a bit off but got fixed.

Also until this year I have never really liked Something In The Water but THIS live version is simply awesome!

[Edited 5/16/14 11:53am]

'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

Ok thanks for the replies. I will play it by ear on Monday, don't really want to carry it around all night, but don't want to miss out either, decisions decisions lol.
