One other thing, the production was a lot better than recently, ie the light show and smoke etc. If you're epileptic don't come to the concert, there was one bit that was really trippy and intense with a ton of flash lighting - it may have been during stratus or what's my name.

Overall the set list was a fans wishlist, a great mix of hits and New stuff and deep cuts - something in the water, she's always in my hair, what's my name, empty room, electric intercourse etc. He did drop the word intercourse but don't read too much into that, he still sang "your Technicolor climax is at my finger tips" and he whispered electric in a way that reminded me of the finger clicking segment on purple rain tour, not that he was trying to censor himself. Imho

No screwdriver was a surprise? Encore was Play That Funky Music jam which took them right up to 11pm.

So about 2.5 hours of tremendous music.

Standing tickets clearly the best too. So much fun!

Opened strong but then lost it a bit as the sound was weak for the first few songs - synth was way low or maybe songs like musicology need live horns more. Also wasn't mad on the reworked bass-heavy kiss. I think it was a fairly tough crowd to get going and some of the huge solos lost them. HOWEVER sound was adjusted fairly quickly and it really picked up. Crowd was going wild by the end. Jaw dropped during Electric Intercourse. No he didn't say intercourse but he sang the rest of it, amazing!

Oh and hello and thanks to Stella who I spent the night chatting and dancing with smile

The sampler set seemed better than usual too.

What's My Name was great. A few songs reworked for the band set up, as said a very guitar heavy set (inc. Guitar obviously), Purple Rain seemed a bit weak imo, TBO was sensational, glad he's still doing Empty Room,

There are clearly synths and backing vocals on some of those clips.. anyone got any info on who else was on stage? On Raspberry Beret it sounds like there are 2 keyboards, so it can't just be Joshua Welton?

How much are the t-shirts on sale?

To get a decent standing spot, what time would you get into the Arena For?

There were two queues. Other arenas may vary. But tonight there was a queue outside and the super hardcore got numbers and let in first.

Then the rest of us.

BUT then we queued again inside the arena. This queue did not fill up quick because everyone was getting tea and drunk and stuff.

So, if you are going to Birmingham, it doesn't matter when you queue outside but if you skip the snack hall then you'll get a great spot.

Did he very briefly play some weird sample for a few seconds just after nasty girl? I'd swear at the time it was a recorded version of Electric Intercourse but I may have just still had that song on my mind

Two keyboardists, one a black lady, one a pretty ripped black guy! Sorry he didn't name check them. Or Ida come to it. Donna is his favourite. .... smile

I'm glad he's mixing it up a bit now - the set list is impressive and he looks and sounds pretty happy out there. Not the aloof rock god this time around, as he was at Montreux last year...closer to the Prince I prefer. Looking good for Glasgow, bring it on!!

Off to bed now (long long day... 6am flight from Switzerland so I've been up since 3.30 although I did manage a quick nap... anyway...) but I thought the band were great. Hannah was amazing throughout although a pretty weak solo and bugger me Donna is brilliant.

There was something inbetween I'm sure, I saw the band laughing and looking faux shocked at him, could have just been some in joke between them. Or I'm just way overthinking this. GREAT GIG ANYWAY. Purple Rain didn't feel flat to me at all, I thought the solo was killer tonight

3rd Eye Girl seemed pretty happy all night as did Prince with them. I imagine he won't be dropping them as people had suspected.

Wow though- Electric Intercourse (Well- 'Electric') was a shocker!
Sound was a tiny bit wonky in places but good for the most part.

Merch -
Mugs £10
Tour Programme £15
Various tshirts £25
Hoodies - £45 - £60(!).

Picked up a mug and a tshirt- can take pics if needed.

He thanked the crowd for not taking too many mobile pictures (something about liking seeing our faces) and then asked the crowd to light up the mobiles and wave them along near the end of the set.

Some of the crowd near me seemed a bit put off by how guitar heavy the set was as well as the re-worked hits.

Highlights for me:
How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore? Something in the Water, Beautiful Ones and Electric Intercourse.

He really seems fed up with playing Purple Rain again lol smile

I think he pitched it perfectly, because while it was kind of a greatest hits show, there were plenty of fan favourites and reworkings to keep everyone happy.

I remember the first time I heard Empty Room live and tonight I got Electric [something] too. Pretty awesome.

And just so this isn't all gushing, Fixup... was a waste of 4 minutes of precious set time.

Just back fantastic setlist, spoilt by the poor sound for the first 75 minutes, too much bass and Prince's Vocals struggling to come through, may have been better standing but at the back of Block 15, it took till the piano set for the sound to be how it should be.

Highloght for me was the piano set, not everyones cup of tea I know, but thought there was some great songs, sung really well with just him at the piano/synth most of the time. Worked really well, I thought

I've seen the future and it will be

I thought the vocals came through fine- mind you I was stood a good few meters in front of the sound desk.
I thought the guitars if anything drowned the synths out but only for a few songs.

I'm also very happy he didn't play Pass The Peas lol

Yeah I agree with that. I was also near the sound-desk and for the most part the sound was fine. Was very similar to some of Febs shows in terms of set as you have seen.

I arrived inside the arena at 715pm and you could actually get to the front rail still standard - albeit on the sides and the depth was maybe 15 deep in the Middle.

I dont like being crushed so went back to the sound desk but for those travelling you dont need to queue all day.

A good gig which left some casuals a bit lost in the middle I think.

Some of the screen sometimes show close ups, sometimes not.

Wristbands for all - to show you were standing peeps. Seen this a few times.

Anyway, 2 hours 18mins by my watch and he only disappeared for a very short time.

There were also big tote bags!

What an awesome night, highlights for me were Empty room and Electric intercourse. I was shocked & happy when he sang Electric intercourse!
I was on my feet dancing for practically the whole show, as were 90% of the peeps in the 'seated' block 14 lol

One minute they want peace……

Then do everything to make it go away. rolleyes

Not the 100% rock out I was expecting but no complaints as I think he called it right for this type of audience.

She's always in my hair, Empty Room, Something in the water & How come you don't call highlights for me.

My feet are killing me and I'm a bit deaf (was about 15 feet from the stage to the left even though I didn't arrive at the venue until 18:45)- glad I've got a seat for Monday!
