Chris Evans just totally mispronounced my name in the "don't forgets"!!

Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

We got Nothing Compares on the Saturday! Birmingham got Electric Intercourse though, which would be worth the price of admission by itself! biggrin

Electric Intercourse was on the setlist for both nights in Manchester, he just decided not to play it. It really was the one song I wanted to hear the most, and when he sat down at the piano on the Saturday and played I Wanna Be Your Lover, Do Me Baby etc I was so sure he was going to gift us with it! lol

I had an excellent standing spot on Saturday (Manchester). Tonight I'm in the nose-bleeds. Will be interesting to contrast the two experiences, though I'm more-than-a-little disappointed I'm not on the floor again.

Yes it was a serious question! I'm in America, we call them scalpers here.

Thank you! I do love San Diego, but I've lived here forever and have done it and seen it all. I'd love to see it through a tourists eyes.

Prince totally rocked tonight his energy is amazing! Didn't expect so much dancing! Majorly let down by the sound quality especially vocal clarity on most tracks, due to the venue I must add and not prince himself!

The sound hasn't been the best at these concerts. Prince needs to hire better people. Boomy and distorted a lot of the time. It's almost impossible to get a vocal to sit well when everything else mixed so badly. Any surprises as far as the setlist goes?

Set list was the most standard yet. No surprises or rarities. Of course thats not the be all and end all, but the set lists seem to be firmly settling as another Greatest Hits tour.

I shall say it, then I shall retreat to a safe distance to avoid arrows: tonight's show was OK. Just OK. For full disclosure, I was in the nose-bleeds, and so it was inevitable I'd feel a bit detached from it all, but it felt a bit like he was going through the motions, compared to Saturday in Manchester.

.

As well as the poor sound mix noted above, there were several technical glitches tonight. Something happened with a guitar early on (he disappeared offstage during 'The Love We Make' to discuss something with a tech). I suspect it may have been a broken string, as before the band came in for 'Guitar', he did some uncharacteristic 'fret wanking' as though breaking in a new one. There was horrendous feedback, followed by some malfunction with the on-stage levels (which required a mid-song sound-check), then the keyboard was turned up WAY too loud for the start of 'Controversy'. I think something happened with the spot-lights as he seemed to be playing in near-darkness for long spells, and he had to repeat lighting instructions (e.g., 'house-lights off') several times before the techs responded.

.

I feel this band is his weakest and most limited. There were a couple of times tonight when I thought Ida was playing in a different key to the rest of the band, but that may have been poor sound-quality, rather than actual duffed notes.

.

I'm growing bored of the sampler set - why not just have the band play the hits, if he's determined to include them for crowd-pleasing?

.

Of course, there was lots of good in there too; musically, and vocally, he was incredible. I honestly feel his vocal is improving with age, which makes him a freak of nature. He's still moving around the stage like an 18-year-old, and he's not lost his crowd-control talents.

.

Ready? Take aim ... FIRE smile

Overall great energy and a solid performance, he vamped out a few of the songs a bit too long for my liking. The sound wasnt hideous, but after about 5 songs you could tell he wasnt happy with it and used the nxt song WDC as a soundcheck. I was there with a friend (a prince virgin) who thouroughly enjoyed it, we were only 10ft away from the man himself which helped. smile

Set list needs some pacing. Blew big guns early on. No real finale. Still 'The Ultimate' performer. Voice and guitar just get better every time I see him. Band probably not the best he's put together although Donna is a stunning player. Sound poor up in gods tonight. Lighting team needs shot!!!!!

I am totally bewildered that a pro like Prince doesn't have the best sound and lighting people on staff. I cannot believe how many times we hear about bad sound, bad guitar, etc.

I can't think of another artist I've ever seen that had even 1/50th the issues Prince does. I just saw Bruce Springsteen play for three straight hours, use about a half dozen different guitars, and never have one single sound issue.

i wish i could be at these shows. no NPG horns or backing singers...sounds like bliss.

i honestly don't understand why he's having more sound, lighting and instrument issues these days with all the new tech and all the money he has.

remember when he had like 4 different guitars, a bass and perfect sound and lighting?

anyway, i'm glad everybody is having fun and the shows are getting good reviews. Setlists don't matter when you're actually at the show.
