Thanks, looks tiny: so that will be another one of their try-outs?

Agree totally with jaypotton.
this is gonna b so hard for me, living in northern england (yes it does exist)
living on poor pay with wife and 5 kids, a trip to london, extortionate hotels, spending money, tickets, travel, time off work, all hard enough, then add in the unexuseable short notice, been a fan since 81, seen 3 tours and am tired of all the cloak and dagger, I will try and be there, but if im not, is it my fault or princes.

So if these London gigs r all about promotion for the album, then logic would say the CD will be for sale at the merch table, right?

But this is Prince we're talking about so when did common sense logic ever come into it?!!! lol

Yep, in the same boat myself in Manchester, I'm working in a server room alll week on a secure site so I have to hand in my mobile phone when I enter and get it when I leave, so won't be able to check/book anything until the night time and little chance of getting holiday leave.

On the previous gigs I attended we had at least a months notice so you could arrange travel/hotels/work etc, I can accept aftershows are short notice and inpromptu, but main gigs should not be like this. I think Prince's people are confident they can fill small'ish (Iconic) venues in London at short notice, so they cannot be bothered about fans who need to travel from further afield. Will be interesting to see the price of tickets, but I'm sure they will sell out, but allot of dedicated fans who have been looking forward to UK Prince gigs are going to be left very disappointed.

If we're not there, it's Princes fault, but I don't think he cares, they will sell out at small venus and that's the bottom line for Prince. When he plays a big venue and fans don't bother as they have been stung by his stunts and have had enough, that's when he might realise, then again, 25 years ago he cancelled Wembley gigs on SOTT tour and I got a coach to Rotterdam and saw him there at short notice, so some things never change, he does as he wants !!! but he aint putting albums out like SOTT anymore .....

If these gigs are for promotion, then why is there no info yet?

This means the gigs will be small and the promotional effect will be smaller.

And mr P having current or even new stuff on the merchandising table is something from the past.

Live in Preston so it'll be a ballache getting down too. However, whilst it sucks he did just do US dates last year and missed out a whole coast and middle of the country didn't he? I'm guessing that getting from lancs to London is easier than going across the USA? Maybe he'll do more than one show a night if it's thirdeyegirl. Maybe by London it's just lazy yank speak for the UK? Enjoying the speculation as time gets closer. Hope he doesn't go all soft-cock on us tho!

Neither. Prince lives his life the way he wants to and you live yours. He's got no obligation to provide you with the exact correct circumstances to allow you to attend concerts. You are under no obligation to attend.

Skyscraper

I live in the north of England and work full-time as well, have never seen Prince before despite getting Hop Farm and Montréux tickets and having to get rid of them (below cost price for Hop Farm, at cost price on here for Montréux) after my job and finances were on a shaky peg. This is something I'd been looking forward to for a long time with the 3rdEyeGirl setup and focus on his guitar playing in a smaller band. I have been hoping for some sort of concrete information leak about when these shows are and when they'd be on sale, just to have half a chance of trying to get in, however unrealistic it might seem given that the venues will likely be very small capacity and on sale only at very short notice. I just hope that this isn't it and there will be other shows later in the year. Mixed feelings about it, as I totally respect the fact that from what I can read into his approach Prince basically only seems to do gigs that give him a buzz these days, so I'd be confident it wouldn't be a half-baked going through the motions performance, but can't fathom why they can't just tell people when the dates are. I just think there'd be a lot more buzz if the discussion was about Prince playing a date and venue, even if the on sale period and venues were kept the same as what must be planned, than a general murmour of 'oh he's in London at some point, we think'.

I'm increasingly thinking for folk in my position outside of London with a fair way to travel, that it might be as well waiting for whatever European dates come up, as getting to London at this short notice will cost around £100+ on a train, hotel prices will be a king's ransom and it might work out cheaper just to go to a 3rdEyeGirl show in France or the Netherlands or wherever else comes up after these shows. Ticket prices also seem to be cheaper in mainland Europe particularly in the last couple of years as the post-Rolling Stones UK tout market and British-based ticket agencies quadrupling the price for any 'legend' category act mean you might as well get on a plane and throw your hotel in overseas with your ticket for the same price as a just getting a ticket here.

That said, I would still love to get into one of these shows. He is number one on my bucket list of acts I berate myself for not having seen live yet.

Im in the same position, had tickets for two shows at the O2 years ago and came down with illness and unable to go, so ended up giving my tickets away, and Hop farm I had to work so lost money on the ticket there, I live in manchester, if the tickets for any of the shows in London are a reasonable price and nto stupid amounts Im going to consider it, I get 75% off train tickets so its not that that will cost me the money, but if its a late show the cost of hotels in London mid-week is silly, then you have drinks etc... all adds up, so my thoughts too are to try and get to a European show at some point, its just finding anyone to go with, as all my friends dotn like Prince so the chances of getting any of them on board are slim. Im hoping if i can get tickets that i can try and grab a free hotel through work otherwise Im going to be leaving it on this occassion. sad

Skyscraper,

"UK tout market and British-based ticket agencies quadrupling the price for any 'legend' category act mean you might as well get on a plane and throw your hotel in overseas with your ticket for the same price as a just getting a ticket here."

As i said before - the only solution is in the hand of prince & his gang.

Make the tickets personalized , as a lot of others are doing.

I'm afraid it is not on the "to do" list of our idol.

If only he would care about touts stealing his money as he care about them fans circulating his boots...

Ticket!?

You don't need no beeping ticket!

Just pay your $100/€100/£100/etc at the door and be in.

Or didn't he learn about the joys of proper preparation as in clothing?

Need I explain about the presale for the Dutch '95 shows? Freezing my legs on the night of my birthday? Or the shows themselves? Sleeping outside in a thin sleepingbag?

Just because somewhere is booked means nothing. The koko club was booked for a burlesque night in 2007 and that was booted elsewhere for Prince

Plus they are free tomorrow night!

If P really is plaing The Jazz Cafe tomorrow night then there is no chance of getting tickets for an avaerage Joe living outside of London. In a venue that small it will surely be all celebs in attendance.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

But you guys are all acting like the only people who ever want to see Prince are people like you. My whole point is that the majority of people who would go and see Prince are the people who would want the hits. He is a huge draw and can easily sell out arenas, but only off the back of the string of hits he had through the 80's and 90's. The 3rdEye shows are only really for the kind of fans like you guys, the guys who want to see something new. Creating a load of hype in the media over these London shows if they are 3rdEyeGirl only is a bad idea. Most people DON'T want to see that, it's just fact.

I'd probably enjoy the shows no matter what, but I'm still dying to see Purple Rain performed live. You all may have seen it 100 times, but I haven't.

Just wanted to add i understand your comment as i have not seen Purple Rain performed live yet. Yes i understand loads of people on here want to see new material as they have been lucky to fly here and there to many Prince concerts over the years. However i just want to see Prince perfrom live and it doesn't matter if he plays hits or new material. I do agree with you that there is alot of folks out there not interested in the 3rdEyeGirl material. I would still go though but if only in London i have no chance! sad
