Don't get me wrong. I like how Donna and Ida sound together performing with Prince, but I also enjoy the horn section, and the back-up singers and how he interchanges between songs, with various band members. Yesterday he had the horn players and his back-up trio of singers, pretty much open the performance with him, as well as the 3EG ladies. Then in the middle of the show, it was just him and the 3EG ladies on stage alone, and that is where he gave the 3EG ladies their moment on stage to shine with him, and show off their skills. After that he brought back the NPG trio singers, and the horn section, and also Cassandra and I believe that guy Andre Gouche was also there playing guitar. (Correct me if I'm wrong that Andre was there).

Thats andrew gouche who takes over on bass and ida guiatr during the NPG segment..he is a beast as well. Def love the interchangeable parts..I beleive if they tour properly, their parts will be fleshed out more and will bve very well rehearsed | |

Kudos 2 U!!!! 4 explaining the exact reason to the clueless why Prince is using two bands!? It carries out all his styles of muziq all @ once.......
Plus @ lwr001 they do look very happy together! Like a big npg famiy affair.... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. | |

Ok, thanks. I thought that was him. (I deleted part of my previous post that wasn't necessary for the topic before you replied.lol). Yes, I really enjoyed how he shifted to various musicians throughout the show for the styles of music he wanted to play. I have to say I really enjoyed how he also did separate songs, with each of his backup singers, Liv, Shelby and Elisa. I really liked the 'Something in the Water Does Not Compute' segment. He ripped the guitar to the max in that song. Amazing performance. You were able to hear his playing very well, and he really displayed how talented and how great a rock-guitar player he is. l | |

He plays effortlessly..No go look at the Britney clips from her debut and the dichotomy is glaring; yet, she got rave reviews...very strange..I'll take P any day | |

Exactly. That's it. He is able to portray all his music styles with 2 bands in concert with him, at the same time, in one place, with the diversified music he presents, to his musically-diversified audience/fans of his music. A little bit of something for everyone. I mean why limit yourself to half a glass of water, when you can let it flow over the rim.

i made the mistake of looking at that a video on tmz as the press said it was spectacular...I saw it and was like really, not singing a lick..uninspired, looks like she wants to be anyplace but on that stage..Its a case study for my 13 year old to see a manufactured artist vs talent that is organcv | |

Who exactly "was wondering why Prince is using two bands!? " It fairly obvious why although in the past his bands were able to play all of the styles of music that he wishes to play. Anyway I don't really see it as 2 bands. It's just a huge band that some members sit out on some of the more rock songs. We had a blast at the show on Fri but he has so many great songs that he doesn't play but still trudges out covers, Time songs and that sampler set. The Glamorous Life without Sheila? Why? He also did not play guitar on U Got the Look which kind of bummed us out. I Would Die 4 U but no Baby I'm A Star seemed odd. Nothing Compares 2 U & She's Always In My Hair are great songs but he seems to play them everytime I see him. Mix it up P! Glad he played guitar on Purple Rain though! Ans Something In The Water was very cool! We definitely enjoyed the show (although the crowd aroung us were very boring) but I guess we were just hoping for something a little different seeing as we haven't seen him in a few years. | |

Sunday's show was my first Prince concert ever, and it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my short 21 years. I went there with my Mom and a friend and we all had a blast!
First off, Janelle Monae was surprisingly wonderful! I've only ever seen her perform on TV and that doesn't do justice to her artistry in real life at all. Her voice is so strong and clear!
Then during what was supposed to be the intermission, Doug E. Fresh popped up out of nowhere and did a fantastic set of mostly 80s/90s songs. My Mom got up and danced the entire time. The floor seats even tried to do a Soul Train Line.
Afterwards, Prince came onstage with "Big City" and blew me away. The horns on that song were so amazing...I'd never heard anything like that before! Anyway, he must have gotten that hip replacement on the sly because he shook his hips, spun, climbed on the speakers, and everything like I haven't seen (well from TV/YouTube/DVD lol) him do in a really long time. Also, he didn't have any pyrotechnics or confetti, so all of the excitement and energy came from purely his own being. AMAZING. And he did THREE encores. My Mom and I were washing our hands in the bathroom when we heard the strains of his guitar wailing out "Plectrum Electrum". It was such a surprise to everyone that when we got back in, the house lights were up and all the ushers had already started cleaning the arena! I'll be honest, I didn't care for the video of that song, but live, it sounded incredible.
This is going to be a memory I'll treasure for a really long time. Prince has always been my favorite artist ever, so it was a true honor to get to see him live before he retires someday. | |

This was my first Prince show too and man was it a great one to start with. Janelle Monae totally blew me away and I was so happy that she got so much time. She really got the place warmed up. And speaking of warming the place up, Doug E Fresh did such a great job before Prince took the stage. Everybody was grooving and it was just such a great atmosphere.
And then Prince.
So good. He played so much that I wanted to hear, and a few great surprises. Never thought I'd get Superconductor or Something In The Water. So great. It was confusing to see people sitting down for much of his set in my area because I assumed everyone would be partying considering the high price tag and the whole PRINCE playing live. I rationalize it by thinking that they probably got too emotional and had to sit down to contain the emotions. Also, he totally sold me on the sampler set. I was afraid it would be just him playing seconds of instrumentals saying "I have too many hits!" but he really fleshed out the tracks this time. It was great hearing a bit of Pop Life and that Housequake was fantastic! I was at the after party and it was fun stuff. Two good sets of music and more Doug E Fresh. The things he says on the microphone just really made me laugh. It was a total bummer that Prince never played, but it seemed like it was more Mohegan's fault than his. They had everything set up for him to play after the NPG played a couple songs they said that "they were being told to stop".
Whatever, it would have been great to hear Prince play more but considering I had nothing to do on Monday a free after show was super welcome. And the new prince track sounds great. [Edited 12/31/13 8:38am] [Edited 12/31/13 8:50am] | |

Once again we see that the people who actually attended the shows were blown away by Prince and the band's performances. This includes longtime fans and first-time concert goers. | |

------ I would like to see a ban on this as well. You have people coming to this board just to be negative about concerts they have not even attended. It would be one thing if you went and did not enjoy it but to gripe about a concert you did not go to!!!!
When we see positive reviews from the mainstream media, facebook and blogs we know you people who did not go to the show are full of crap. Stop ruining this board with out and out lies. | |

I've seen Prince roughly 7 or 8 times now, usually in arenas, once at Radio City, once at Avery Fisher, now this past Saturday at Mohegan Sun. I tend to remember the Radio City one as being the most special, though the Livesexy show at MSG was memorable as well. This one was perhaps the most hardcore in that the funk was funkier than I remember, and the rock was much harder than I remember. In both cases, that's a plus. I don't get hung up on set lists because I know his approach -- a sprinkling of hits, some nice deep album cuts and some covers. I'm never a big fan of what you guys call the samplers, though they serve their purpose as well.
The way I gauge this show is by who I went with. I took my 12-year-old son, who never has really listened to Prince, and my 18-year-old daughter, who was introduced to Prince at the Izod two years ago when my wife was sick and couldn't make the show.
Despite opening with an extended 20-minute funk that barely contained a note either recognized (and despite starting awfully late!), both were mesmerized. Perhaps even more so as the night went on. Both were totally into, loved it, and insisted that we stay until the very end -- that included the post-lights encore.
In that regard, I'd say Prince is doing his job, and doing it well. | |

Probably best to ignore it and not give it a life. It's usually the same 2 or 3 that don't attend the concerts/shows they complain about. | |
