I would like to say a big thankyou to those who left early as it allowed me and my fellow orgers to move forward to the Purple Reserve and Purple Circle seats to witness the most dynamic and funky part of the show. Thank you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

THIS THIS THIS LOL! Couldn't have done it without that 75 percent up and leaving before the encores. The vibe was so much more electric when all of us were squished together at the front! Illustration work: http://youngearlgrey.tumblr.com

I feel it became more of a party atmosphere the second the casual fans got out of there. Most of the ones around me were sitting down for the entire concert and sneering and generally disinterested at any non-PR tracks.
If the concert had that vibe all the way through, it would've been completely mindblowing.
One thing I wish they would've done is played more of the associated artists film clips before the concert started with the audio turned on. Would've been cool to see and hear the Madhouse videos, The Time, Sheila E etc.

Totally agree! I had more fun down on the ground with the fans during the encores than I did during the entire show. I had party poopers in my section too, hardly anybody was singing the words or putting their arms up besides me! But whatever, I sang my heart out and screamed like a mad woman when like 2.5 seconds of Darling Nikki played. Btw, what a freaking tease haha!!
I did sense that only the songs from Purple Rain + KISS were the ones that most people responded to. Anything else - even Cream to an extent - was met with "meh" and sitting down. I understand that it's hard for casual fans to get into songs they don't know, but come on! This man is jamming LIVE in front of you, with an amazing band and you can't get up and dance? The music was infectious no matter what the song!! Well, at least those people got out of there and left room for us to party after haha!
And God, my little heart was still kind of holding out for a The Time appearance....I know, I know wishful thinking. But after all that hinting on twitter and facebook, I thought at least something was gonna happen! If they ever tour Australia, I will be there front row throwing myself at Morris LOL. I was on the piano side too and the bass was really muffled as well. Only times it was great was during Let's work, and Days of wild. Not to take anything away from Ida's playing - she's funking great
Not a good venue for music - not made for it.

Each show had something special going for it. The first was probably my favorite. The second some nice changes and bonuses ("Days of Wild" especially). I actually thought the last one was a little bit off until those great encores, though. He just seemed to be a bit tired compared to the first two shows, which is understandable. He didn't let anyone on stage and essentially ran through the first show's setlist. Those final encores totally made up for it, though! Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

Its funny cos I am totally the opposite. Though I also enjoyed them all, for me, the third show was the best and the first show the least impressive (though still good). It just goes to show how subjective these things really are. I guess it depends on where you're sitting, what the vibe is like amongst the people around you, what you had for breakfast, etc. I actually thought he had more energy last night and seemed to be smiling, laughing and dancing alot more.
Though the setlist for main part of the show was quite similar to the first night, there were a few nice changes. I liked the fact that he got Purple Rain out of the way early. The version of Love Thy Will be Done was very different to the first night. I also think his guitar playing was a little more "in the zone" and more prominent.
I wasn't bothered that he didn't let anyone on stage. If I want to see drunken women dancing ineptly, i can go down to the local club any Friday night...I'm only really interested in seeing Prince and the band on stage. Unless of course he invites me up....then having people on stage is a brilliant idea!
Of course, I agree on final the encores...they were the highlight of the three Sydney shows. "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"

^ House lights were up and everything, which is why obviously so many people left. I was almost tempted to go, but I knew better haha! I think I managed to get down to the floor before the lights went down again and he came back out. Illustration work: http://youngearlgrey.tumblr.com

Doesn't everyone know by now - it ain't over til the crew is packing up! This goes for any performer Maybe it's cos I never want the party to end that this is so ingrained in me... Even back in my clubbing days I was always conning the DJ to play "one more!!!!!"

Last night was the best of the 3 Sydney shows without doubt for me personally. The set list was full of favourites, for both old & new school...and the 'private' encore was just a wonderful way to farewell Prince from Sydney after a well attended triology of shows in Allphones Arena (which I agree is not suited for the sound required...the bass was distorted all night). Backup singers mics were way too loud in the mix I felt also. Aussie Aussie Aussie...Oi Oi Oi...Only thing missing was an Ocker "Luv Yez Awwlllll"

I wholeheartedly agree about last night..
My favourite show was the second one out of the three, as it was pretty much flawless in every aspect, from sound to atmosphere.
Last night was plagued with problems as mentioned by someone earlier, the guitar tone was piercing at times, there was an audible feedback for a period, distortion from the monitors, the timing of the lights wasn't precise. I mean, this is supposed to be a world class show of the highest calibre (from a technical point-of-view) and the level from the sound and lighting people was average at best. Even early on, Prince said something along the lines of "I thought soundcheck was over.."
It wasn't a disaster by no means, but the overall "buzz" and atmosphere of the Saturday show wasn't there. In saying that, the encores definitely elevated the night to what it should've been throughout and to have all the real fans stay back and get upclose together in the purple circle was really special..

All the shows were great but my personal fave was the Saturday show. He was on fire that night. Great sound. Plus being saturday night crowd & vibe everyone was dancing and wanted to party. And he just got on with it and didn't keep us waiting lengthy breaks wondering "will there? Won't there be? An encore....?" Tuesday night crowd was very passive and lots of people stayed seated half the show. And left early in Gold some even after Kiss!! Crazy peeps! Wassup with y'all?? Gotta say tho Prince really ripped it up on guitar that night, his playing was off the hook!! I was in purple reserve D on floor and when the house lights came up crossed the ropes and was right up against the stage for the final encores. Was I in the presence of other orgers?? I was on the piano side, between the piano and arrow head of the symbol. I was going nuts and probably deafened a lot of folk around me lol. The sound down there was terrible I must say, could barely make out what prince said into the mic, or maybe having lots of people screaming around you does that I dunno. Also noticed his symbol guitar sitting there off stage.. He never even pulled it out once!!

i got to the front of the stage too, i went down to get some streamers off the floor and all of a sudden the band came back out so my brother and i bolted to the stage near the stairs and watched him perform from there, incredible, was so close it was crazy... "was i the first, was i your every fantasy"

Haa haa haa, spot on, i was first row above the floor seats and snuck down when the lights were on and b4 u know it we were in the purple circle dancing our a$$es of to the 2 encores...absolute crazy....Friday show was great, Saturday was incredible but Tuesdays ending for me was insane... It sounds to me he knew lots of people had left at that point and he wanted to play a few gems just for "real" fans only.

Epic as show! I only went to the 1st and 3rd sydney shows. for the 3rd show i upgraded to purple circle which was totally worth it, Section F - Table 10. I mad absolutely no use of the seats and bassicly just funked out around the sardine can infront of the stairs leading to the stage waiting for the call of the great one to welcome us on stage. As you saw this never happened but i wasnt left feeling disheartened [unlike the jealousy i felt in the first show] because nobody got up there I had my tambourine with me but only really used it for more noise at the begining and end of the show. Dunno if my table were orgers, alex[?] and 2 other ladies were mad cats!
Anyways, i thought the structure of the set was better than the first show, as sombody said earlier, it was far more dynamic. bassicly swaping the place of purple rain and gold was a great move, it felt like it freed up the show a bit more. I dont think im enough of an audiophile to notice problems with the sound at gigs [unless its psytrance] so i had no problem with anything. piercing/distorted sounds = radness for me but mayb its hearing loss ? Loved 'nothing compares 2 u'[I <3 Shelby J], 'u got the look' and my favourite of all, 'if i was your girlfriend'. TBH i really wanted to hear all of sign o the times but that just how i am at the moment... The encores were legen[wait for it]dary, bass playing was f*cking rad to say the least, song selection. the whole lighting rouse was great [if not a little sneaky]. I can totally understand why people left, when security guards are keep repeating 'shows over folks, time to go home'. and all the light are on its usually a good indication that things arent going any further... APART FROM THE FACT THAT IT WAS ONLY 11pm!!!! pfffft idiots, prince isnt ending 30 - 40 minutes before he has in any other aus show. Shame on you for wanting to 'avoid the traffic', and shame on your parents and or spouse if they were shuffling you on earlier. more to come if i think of it later... sorry about spelling mistakes
Thank you prince xoxo | |

I feel the same - I was in purple circle section D and there were a lot of people sitting throughout most of the show, if not the whole thing. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

You must all have been in bad sections, I was in section 2 first elevation and the whole section were up and dancing for almost the whole concert, the vibe was awesome. My feet still hurt

I could see a lot of the arena from where I was sitting (section 20 first elevation) and whenever the lights shone on certain sections, I could see that a LOT of people were sitting down for the majority of the show. Party poopers. Glad they all left LOL! Agreed that Prince seemed a lot happier once he got our smaller group at the end. Illustration work: http://youngearlgrey.tumblr.com
