My thoughts exactly!!! I about fainted when he did that...I was like "OMG! AHHHHHHH." I couldn't believe it, it was so much sexier in person than just seeing it on video. That little crawl on the floor to...WOW!!! Prince really worked it out during this show. He may have showed off that sexy chest of his at the Raleigh show, but this one he was just sooooo sexy acting. I loved it! And these pics are great, love the lighting, mine aren't this good!

Oh, honey! You should have seen him unbutton that shirt in Raleigh. I am LUCKY enough to have gone to both Raleigh and Greensboro. SO I got to see the chest, and the crawling. LOL. I will never be the same again. I have been to many of his shows...but boy these were good!

If Prince wasn't happy about the imposters, security would've gotten them out - by the sounds of things they're hardly "low profile".

People describe the concert as an experience, and to me, possibly seeing and taking photos of Prince close up is part of the experience - it gives people a story to tell and something to remember for decades.

Does it really matter if it's not him? Is it essential for people to go to great lengths to "prove" to people that it's not him?

I think it's nice.

I'll bet, every so often, Prince slips out into the crowd too and doesn't get hassled quite as much as he normally would because people (other than first-timers) assume it's Marcus and don't bother looking properly razz

So I'm sure some of the sightings are legit heart

Just satisfying people's curiosity. Myself, when I heard of the 'imposter' it made me curious and I wanted to see how he looked like and if he would fool me if I saw him walking through the crowd. Personally I think he can pass from a distance because of his stature and if someone really didn't know his features. But as someone mentioned, he looks more like Morris Day. Couldn't fool me but other's may still think it was him.

No harm done. smile

I emailed you yesterday! hug grouphug wave wave

Prince's divine right: The Artist reigns purple across the Carolinas

By Ryan Snyder

art1215861

All the critics love Prince in North Carolina; well, most of ‘em do anyway. Parts of press row at his Wednesday night Raleigh show appeared either ankle-deep in desiccating cement, or confounded by their mulish allegiance to the hipster’s cross-armed de rigueur and ignorant of the mandate to dance at a Prince show. Critics gonna criticize, but based on the his three-show run across the Tar Heel State last week, saying an unkind word about the work the Purple Yoda from Minnesota puts in onstage seems practically inconceivable.

For real, they may still be wiping the funk off the floor of the Greensboro Coliseum after Saturday. How is it possible to carry on with normal concert viewing after getting through this thing called Prince? It’s like spending a month to watch all five seasons of “The Wire” for the first time, and then finding out the only thing on from then on is “Bridalplasty.” There are big-time performers churning out the same show night after night, and there are cult acts with wildly varying, though usually uneven set lists. There are artists like Bruce Springsteen imparting an element of spontaneity into the live pop/rock formula. Then there’s Prince, a musician transcendent of those who simply sing or dance or jam.

But this is nothing that Prince himself doesn’t already know. If he were a baseball player, he’d be a five-tool superstar. He can belt it like James, move like Michael, charm like Leonard, play every instrument under the sun and make an all-star group of players better than they’ve ever been. That he sprung a six-show addition to his Welcome 2 America tour in the Carolinas, a mere two weeks before they were to transpire, was a testament to his mercurial self-possession. That more than 50,000 combined came out for the three North Carolina shows, including Charlotte, was a predictable affirmation.

As for the shows themselves, they’re like double-stuffed chocolate sandwich cookies: it’s hard to stop at just one. Each one is a singular experience, from the soul legends playing on the LCDs beforehand (Wilson Pickett circa 1970 in Greensboro) to his encores, as anyone who stuck around after the house lights at the RBC Center went up can confirm. The lengthy “DMSR” jam that he played before roughly 400 people was picked back up in its entirety three nights later as the opener for the Greensboro performance, which may have be the crown jewel of his hasty tour addendum.

With 19,258 in the house on Saturday — good enough to rank 10 th all-time at the Greensboro Coliseum — the contagious energy in the house resonated as a near-perfect doppelganger of the Artist strolled through the crowd. When the man himself took the pulsating, “love symbol”-shaped stage — he beelined to his purple piano under the cover of darkness in Raleigh, rode a bicycle into the arena in Charlotte and arose from center stage bathed in spotlight on Saturday — it felt simply unreal.

“Y’all know how many hits I got?,” he asked. “We could be here all night.” After more than 30 years of ceaseless creative output, the hits are in no short supply. His opening salvo in Raleigh was a chaotic collage of “When Doves Cry,” “Nasty Girl,” “The Most Beautiful Girl In the World” and “Hot Thing.” The ride might have been bumpy for anyone expecting forthright interpretations of those hits, but it was also a chance for the New Power Generation to flex, and the twists and turns between each snippet were sensational. When they did take on full pieces, which he did from the outset in Greensboro, he interpolated rarities and covers into the hits and each other. His cover of the Time’s “Cool,” a staple on this tour, was bridged my Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” and the sexy mantra of “Controversy” was met by the chants of “Housequake.”

The shows were so meticulously constructed that stage prompters dotted the stage’s periphery, the NPG’s pit in the eye of the symbol, and Prince’s piano. It’s a necessary evil, however, especially considering that more than 60 different songs were played in the three North Carolina shows. Considering the alternative of being a tired old hack barfing out the same show night in and night out, their existence is pretty inconsequential. Prince might be Godlike, but he’s still human.

If there’s any critique to be levied on this run of performances at all, there’s a rather contentious one to be made about his band’s arrangements since the Earth “tour” that spawned the Indigo Nights live album. The robust brass of Maceo Parker and Mike Phillips were missed, but synth master Renato Neto filled the empty space without fail.

It was difficult to think about anything lacking when the sultry chorus to “U Got the Look” rang out of Liv Warfield and hometown girl Shelby J’s huge voices. Or when the gorgeous and funky Ida Nielsen’s bass intro to “Delirious” took hold. Or even when Prince was living out the idea behind “Let’s Go Crazy” on his signature Telecaster with the leopard print pick guard. There was especially no second-guessing the brilliant “Purple Rain” that closed out each of the show’s main sets. That’s the kind of feeling a Prince performance engenders. Faultless. Effortless. If he’s not at the top of your music experience life list, he should be. Just save the errant criticism and enjoy yourself.

Well, I think her set could have been cool if the sound had been better. I honestly don't see how her house guy could let her sound like that. We were in Sec. 225 upstairs. I thought certain notes she sang would take the top of my head off. The band sounded like a blur. I believe GSO was the 1st time I have heard an opener louder than the headliner.

Being the opening act, they may not have had much of a sound check but damn.eek At this level of touring, whoever was mixing should know better.

As I said in another post, she deserved better.neutral

I totally agree. Her voice is still great... that mess was all on the sound techs.

Absolutely right. It had to be the sound cause there ain't nothin' wrong with Ckaka's chops! I saw her at a much smaller venue last year and her voice was terrific--crystal clear and funk-a-fying! They should've done right by her. Hathaway is no comparison.

Thank GOD I can finally post! I've always been a fan of Prince but just now got on this site. Yay!

So Greensboro was my first Prince concert. I was *warned* he had the "best live show ever" but DAAAMMMNNNN! eek This was OFF THE HOOK! Had I known, I would have bought tickets to MULTIPLE shows. He is such a badass. Loved Little Red Corvette (OMG. Sooo sexy. LOVED the red lighting on the gold suit - thx to whoever posted pix of that moment on the piano!), opening with DMSR, IIWYGF, the teases of Darling Nikki, etc. His yellow silk shirt, again, just too sexy. He is the whole package, period. My fandom just got kicked up a notch (a BIIIGGG notch!). Thanks to all who post pictures and setlists biggrin (can't wait to make a playlist of this show!!!!) Also can't wait to see where/when he's going to play next. Anyone seen any rumors? Oh, and I have a picture of me with the supposed imposter Marcus. Anyone want to see it so they can see what this guy looks like up close?

I hope to catch him again on the East coast because that show let me craving for more! the set list was amazing. the little breakdance he did was Epic... everything about the show just had me floored and I was in such awe and amazement over the amount of talent he possesed. that Yellow Silk shirt was CLEAN!!! ahh very sexy indeed. when he came out strutting in his suit.. thats pretty much when I lost my voice all together screaming like a nonsensical teenager, that I am. I hope to see him live again soon!!! so glad that you all shared the same experience! Prince have a good sense of unity!

This was my very first Prince concert and a damn good one, I think it put a spell on me, for real! That man is so passionate about his music and you can see it when he plays. He enjoys himself. I loved it!

He played the intro to "Darling Nikki" and we all cheered for him to sing it, but he didn't, he just kinda gave a sexy smirk and stopped sad But, that, by no means ruined the show for me.

He looked incredible, as usual. I'm almost 27, but I would totally let that man....ok, moving on haha

My only wish was that he played more stuff from the 90's. "Gett Off" and such. But, I realize he's been a Jehovah's Witness for some time and doesn't really play that stuff as much...or at all. Is that right? Anyone recently see him play any of his more suggestive stuff?

In any case, We missed Chaka because of traffic and my mom made us late...I almost killed her! haha How could you hold up my date with the Purple One?!

Who else went?

Great mention of the concert and the power of music in this article...http://www.yesweekly.com/...-ends.html

"I made it out to see Prince this weekend, part of the appreciative crowd at the Greensboro Coliseum. I’ll leave the music review to Ryan Snyder (see page 27), but I’ll say it was one of the more exciting shows I’ve seen in a while, and not just because of the performance, as inspiring and proficient as it was.

It was the kind of bona fide spectacle that brings people together — every color, every age, every income bracket — and engenders a spirit of love that seeps through the community.

Think I’m reading too much into it? Consider the case of my friend Tim LaFollette, the Triad’s favorite ALS patient whose battle with the fatal disease has been chronicled by local filmmakers Blake Faucette and Andy Coon at All Aces Media (allacesmedia.com) and supported by the Often Awesome Army — a squad of volunteers who help Tim and his wife Kaylan and raise funds for awareness of the disease.

When word got out that Tim wanted to see Prince before… you know… a crew of people — some part of Tim’s circle, some not — swept into action. Tickets were secured, logistics mapped out, a secure viewing area demarcated. Tim, in his heavy-duty wheelchair/ life-support combo, saw Prince. Great seats, too."

I totally agree I was a dedicated fan before the show, I knew a little something about Prince's history and the music but seeing it live just kicked my fandom up 10million notches... I wish I were older so that I could have gotten the opprotunity to see him in his younger and wilder days... there isn't anyone in my generation who could put on a show like Prince and its terribly sad! I would pay $97 all over again to experience that night once more.

What show does he want you to see? lol

I feel so lucky to have seen this show. I told my mother "When in your life will you ever get to see Prince?". Something to scratch off my bucket list, for sure. I paid 20 bucks each for our seats and I'm so glad because we got to move down and center to much better seats! Best 40 bucks I ever spent, seriously and a night I will NEVER forget.

Also, I kinda wanted to see him because when I was 8, I started listening to him and um...he informed me on some things I had not known about prior so ummm I thought I would go show my appreciation. lol

He invited me to go see Phish. We obviously together listen to a wide range of music! I've seen everyone from the Grateful Dead to Prince. Phish is not really my scene anymore though. And I just can't get into the music. I mostly said yes because he asks me every time.

Seeing Prince was totally on my bucket list, ever since I was a teenager. I moved to NC in 1994 and he's hardly been in the state since. So when this tour came around it was a no-brainer!

I was a teenager when 1999 and Purple Rain came out. He *certainly* "informed me on some things I had not known about prior" too! LOL! I remember my mom taking me and some friends to school and us asking "what's a Trojan?" (ie. Little Red Corvette). Luckily my mom was pretty cool about that stuff and was just straight up honest. But Prince was in his own league back then with the sexuality (still is IMO). So that along with the teenage hormones was like a double whammy! LOL! I remember watching the "When Doves Cry" video back then and thinking "Damn, wish he was crawling that way toward me!"

The concert was two weeks ago and I am still on my concert high. Is that normal? I paid for three seats in the lower level and I feel like I got more than my money's worth. I didn't want the concert to end. I am so glad that we had a Saturday night show. There was something about the atmosphere in the Coliseum. I remember looking around at everyone's face as Prince performed and everyone had a look of amazement.

Who goes to see Phish?! lol c'mon now! lol jk jk

I was the happiest lil thing in the place, happier when someone started smoking weed beside me lol seriously...wtf??

Can you just do that in public? lol weed

I was in section 107 and I smelled something too. Only in Greensboro.

That show seriously did something to me too, like I hear music on the radio like 97.5 and 105.1, etc...and nothing's good enough anymore lol

Same here! My hubby wants me to go to a concert in May and I'm like "What's the point? I've done seen the best! No other concert will ever compare!" And everything else on my mp3 player just sounds "blah".

They should have just closed the Greensboro Coliseum up after Prince left the building. That was the concert of all concerts for me. I am so glad that I went!

I Was in 227 burly guy with long white hair in a braid just whipped it right out his pocket and started blazing up... I was like what is this the 1980's???? this isn't a Rick James concert! I didn't mind but the lady in front of me did.. it took her all of .3 seconds to go get the usher and tattle tale. it wasn't gonna take away from my Prince experience! which I am still talking about to this day. I'm insanely jealous of the 21 nights in LA... 21 nights in NC would have been impossible but a sister can dream!

The Org never ceases to amaze me
