It was my first time seeing him and I had a BALL! I'm still overwhelmed from the concert lol

The energy was nuts! I really loved how he slowed down 'Little Red Corvette' Damn near everyone wore purple, including me. I have video of him performing 'Purple Rain' and the medley

I had not seen that from him in a while! A long while!

And please let me clarify that, it was not all that sexiness that made the show so great. All that sexiness is always an extra bonus, but all that talent and energy from him and the NPG. That band is banging. Prince is on fire....moving as if he were a teenager. I mean, the man is such an awesome dancer/performer.

I took a friend (I took several friends to this show) that knows Prince, but was never a huge fan. She walked out of there saying, "Omg, he is such a wonderful performer."

The other ladies I took already loved his work. smile

Wow, this sounds so .... razz .... really makes me wish I had been there!!!!!

I totally understand what you mean. I was at two concerts in Europe last year and he did nothing of the sexy stuff he has been doing in the States recently, and I still absolutely enjoyed his performances. If he did not do anything extra sexy it would not matter ... after all, he is sexy anyway ... but it does add a lot of excitement to the shows, no doubt about that!!! wink

And yes, I am always at awe about his dancing! His moves are so natural and rhythmic and his legs are moving all the time ... so amazing to watch!! I would never believe he is 52 if I did not know.

Isn't it great when non-fans go to a concert and love the show. - Everyone has to see Prince live, only then they know what they had been missing!!! biggrin

This was the ninth time I've seen him live and easily the best experience! The Coliseum Authority needs to send him a bill for a new roof, cause the old one was blown completely off! I had floor seats, sitting directly behind John Blackwell, in front of the riser that Mr. Hayes was on. At first I was a little upset by the seating, as I thought it wasn't going to be a good vantage point, but instead I got to watch the concert from the band's point of view. The NPG was a finely tuned wrecking crew last night, killing us w/precision and turning on a dime at Prince's instruction. The coliseum was packed, and the energy was great throughout the night. I think Prince wanted to "bring it" a little bit because this is Shelby's home area, and he fulfilled! Here is the playlist:

D.M.S.R.

Pop Life

Musicology

Don't Stop Till You Get Enough

Cool

U Got the Look

Misty Blue (Sung by Shelby, P went to change)

Raspberry Beret

Take Me With U

She's Always In My Hair

Controversy

Housequake (just a snippet)

The Cross (instrumental, used as intro to>)

Let's Go Crazy

Delirious

1999

Little Red Corvette (verses sung as a slow jam, chorus regular)

Purple Rain

Piano/DJ set (Band break):

When Doves Cry

Nasty Girl

Darling Nikki

Sign O'The Times

Alphabet St.

The Most Beautiful Girl in the World

The Bird (band returns)

Jungle Love

Love Rollercoaster

Play That Funky Music (big fruity brotha was HILARIOUS!!! P was like "WTF!?!")

Which Way Is Up?

Kiss ("U don't have to watch...Real Housewives")

If I Was Your Girlfriend

Insatiable

Scandalous

Adore

Yup, sounds right. The setlist was amazing!!!!!!!! AMAZING!!!!!!! He totally blew the roof off of that joint last night. I was in awe.

As well as Black Sweat I want to say there was a slow jam I wasn't familiar with that he performed somewhere between D.M.S.R. and Musicology... Anyone?

I thought I heard "Prince and the Band," no?

HEY! I'm dying to know! Was that REALLY Prince walking the crowd with LITTLE TO NO SECURITY before the show? We were up high, and the crowd was acting like it was really him, but I have NEVER known him to be so open with strangers. Hugging, taking pictures (YES!), basically allowing open access to him. This went on for 10 minutes after CK was done and they were resetting for him.

What's the word?

Oh, and my bones are still vibrating from last night. Awesome show!

I totally tripped out on this! This was my 6th time seeing him and Ive never seen him do this! We were knocked out of our seats. Loved every minute of the show! The people on the floor were so lucky to have him just walk around and let people take pics and hug him and everything. What a trip!

You are saying Prince crawled around on the stage floor? For real???? My goodness, when was the last time he did something like that?!!! Sounds like he was in an extra-great mood last night!!! So envious of all of you who were there, but I love to read your reviews! Thanks for sharing!! biggrin

He crawled around on the stage! I mean, crawled and wriggled a bit. Now, he did not go humping the floor...obviously trying to keep it PG, but the man got ON the floor and, basically, got all sexy. When he started crawling around and was on top of the piano, I pretty much lost all of mind then. This was my first Prince concert and I am kicking myself for never going before. I hope he comes back to Greensboro sometime in the future. My 4 year old is still mad that she didn't get to go w/ me. I still don't have a voice this evening, Im hoping it comes back for work tomorrow..lol. I managed to get this pick and thought some of you might enjoy it...lol

From what I have read here about the other shows, I really feel like the people who were in Greensboro got to see an epic show. I don't know if "it was Saturday night", the planets were aligned or what. It just seemed we saw a very special event. My only other show was RBC in Raleigh during the Musicology tour. That was good but GSO just seemed to have an intangible "something" that I can't describe.

My problem will be going to work tommorow and not babbling on to co-workers about the show like a madman in the asylum. wacky

Yeah, I will sound like a crazy person for a week.

My first show was in 1997 for the Jam of the Year Tour at Walnut Creek. It was awesome to see Prince, but it was a short, very business like show. (There was an aftershow, but I did not attempt to go.) It was somewhat disappointing.

This thing was different. The atmosphere was electric. The set was amazing. The people were in on it too. The band was tight. He felt relaxed. It was a great show, easily joins the upper echelon of shows I have been to.

Hi. I'm new here. Are you the one who bought a floor ticket for yourself and then two in the upper level for your daughters? If so, I remember you posting that your girls would freak out if you got on stage, and you almost did!! What section were you sitting in? I'm dying for Prince to announce some Southern California dates. I saw him once at the Nokia here in Los Angeles and he was incredible. The concert wasn't super long though because that was the night he did 3 concerts in one night at different clubs. I can't wait to see him again!!

My sister and my two girls and some of my friends said that they were looking for me 2 get on the stage since i had floor tickets. I was holding my phone in my hand and I was told that I couldn't get on the stage with my camera. I told the guy it was a phone but he couldn't tell cause it was in a case. he was holding a bucket so that everyone could put thier camera in it. I put my phone in the bucket but when everyone started pushing he said no eles could get on the stage...He stoped every1 when it got 2 me...

Some times I feel like everyone hates Chris...sad pat cry

biggrin Awesome night of dancing singing and enjoying. Had great seats on left side of stage on side 2 rows from floor. (tickets were on floor in back and we decided to upgrade ourselves) RIght under the camera. Prince enjoyed the energy from our side as he came over sharing the love many times. Lots of folks waited for him to return for a few more songs and finally they chased everyone out........ Loved the dude in WHite Jacket taking over the stage shaking his booty....Prince was like guess its his show now.........

Not sure if we can say Prince played the piano but he did PLAY on the Piano. WOndering if at other shows he actually sat and played a song or two vs making it his toy.

How do u attach photos >?

i was right at the end of the runway at bottom left of your photo 2nd row off floor.

Does anyone know the band members, as well as the three singers he had on stage? I used to know them by heart, but he seems to change them a lot anymore!

Also, I don't think it was a "real" piano. All those snippets of different songs (Black Sweat, The Most Beautiful Girl in The World, etc.) he played were recordings, he wasn't singing them live. I think it was some sort of electronic machine made to look like a piano, which surprised me!

Agree with the sentiments that Greensboro was special. Prince was obviously in a great, playful mood. That really showed. I was talking with some people who work there before the show and they said that when he was marking his spots earlier in the day he was laughing a lot and very friendly. Everyone had really good things to say about him.

Many of my impressions of the show have already been stated here. It was a great time, and Prince was very high-energy and playful. Personally, I think the 1st 1/3 of the show was the best--he seemed to be really riled up and was very energetic. DMSR is a wonderful choice to open the show, and I was pleased to hear Musicology and Extraordinary, since those are more recent (relatively speaking) tracks. It was also nice to hear even that little snatch of TMBGITW during the sampler medley--the place blew up when he started it. I think he could still play that one live and get as strong a response as many of the classic ballads.

While the encores were strong and his voice was wonderful throughout, he seemed to be slowing down just a tad by that point. For a two-hour show--not super-long, but not short either; right in the realm of reasonable--it felt like a very full evening and it was fine with me that he didn't come out for another encore--BUT: I do think it's a bit silly to leave the stage to set up for the first encore only an hour and some change into a show. (It was little sad--several folks from my row actually left in the middle of Purple Rain, thinking it was over.)

All in all, very satisfying, and probably my favorite of the four times I have seen him. It was a pretty full house (only a few empty spots toward the top) and the crowd was enthusiastic. It's also nice to see that Prince's forty-something fans are dressing a tad more respectably these days. Not too much oozing and spillage, overall. smile

Prince and Chaka blew the roof off of the Greensboro Coliseum. I had a great time last night I am still excited this morning. Prince was so sexy and he was working that stage. Yeah the big guy that got on the stage was working it he was so funny. This was my 5th Prince concert and it was my favorite they were all good but this one just blew my mind. I bought the 3121 Tambourine $50 and the symbol necklace $15. It was just a beautiful experience and I really want to go to the next show on Monday.

Is Prince IN on this joke? Because this guy was all OVER the crowd on the floor, taking photos, hugging, etc. I was wondering, as Prince isn't usually this people friendly! But if he's not in on the joke, I'd think he'd be offended by someone taking the spotlight for a bit? Curious!

I never thought of that he could be in on the joke....if you are reading this and this is one of your jokes this is for you hammer
