Hi 2elijah, I know I wish I wasn't that close to the stairs but it was the closest to the stage I could get. I also had a 250 lb woman leaning on my right side and a man who wouldn't budge a bit on my left so I was feeling the crush.. mad This woman wanted to get on stage really bad.

I was right in front of the stairs 1st row again. Got pushed around a lot especially when the security was diving into the crowds trying to stop fans taking pictures. Again when Shelby was picking people to dance onstage.

Totally agree with that part. lol People kind of went just a wee bit out of control, when Shelby was calling people on stage, and a few people were pushed out of their original spots.I didn't want to stand near the steps at the front of the stage, because I knew that once people saw Prince entering/exiting the stairs they would have been excited, and I wanted to avoid any squashing, pushing/shoving, since the space near the entire front of the stage from left to right, was very small.. But other than that, the show was great, and after about an hour, I had enough space for dancing and having fun in the area I stood. I thought it was cute though, when after the fans were finished dancing, Prince said "Y'all got to get off the stage now" and was laughing when he said that, but he said it in good humor.

Well, that is why I didn't want to be near the stairs because I saw it was a very small area, when I walked in, and if he had to enter/exit by the stairs, , that's where fans would get excited and would push the crowd forward to try and touch him, and I didn't feel like being pushed like that. I have this fear of being caught up in a stampede.lol. So I just found a spot to the left, I felt would be comfortable.

To my surprise the band came out from the left so we had to move out the way for them. Prince entered from the right to go up the stairs. The stairs was kind of in the center of the stage.

I was behind Kathy, who turns the lyrics page. She was on the left. I had room the entire show around where I stood. It did get a little tight, only when Shelby was picking people to get on stage, and usually that's when people get excited and push trying to get picked. Fans get excited and want a chance to be on stage, so that pretty much is understandable. I have come to the understanding that there are many fans who never had a chance to see him up close, and just want that chance to experience that, so I did move out of the way of fans who wanted to get picked. But the excitement level and pushing is always expected at a Prince show. All you can do is try to deal with it the best way you can, and still remain positive and enjoy the show, which I did. I was also around some very nice fans anyway who was having a great time.

I just wish the thread would stay on track about the aftershow instead of others trying to turn it into "Why doesn't Prince play this or that?" just for their own selfish agenda.

i respect prince's legacy as a artist and as a musician. i'm not bitter in any sense of the word when it comes 2 friday's per4mance. i c prince being limited 2 per4ming his material due 2 a variety of reasons and that's makes me sad. he has been a artist that has pushed the boundaries so far and needs 2 keep going in that direction imo.

If you want to talk about the ill-conceived method Prince culled together that 21 Nights Live CD and the fact that there were better shows to release, then that to me is real, rationale criticism...

If you want to discuss the lackluster and grooveless feel of "Turn Me Loose" then I will co-sign that...

But making a post about a show that A) was an after hours gig and B) And that u didn't even attend doesn't make sense...

L4OATheOriginal said:

by continually per4ming his well known songs, whether it's 4 a charity or a main show is really sad. let him b all that he can b by per4ming songs other than the hits. ONA was the best tour in ages sans the gold experience tour that was really fun. he just xploded on that stage. constantly hearing about him doing the "80's" songs is not letting him b creative, it's retreading.

But to me this is where you are not completely making sense here..."Jungle Love" is a not a song that Prince performs on a regular bases; neither is "Sexy Dancer" And he actually did a lot more covers than he did his own songs....I never heard him do the Ohio Players' I Want To Be Free or EWF's Can't Hide Love...He even did more recent songs like "3121," "Musicology," and a new song at the beginning of set one...Of course he has to do certain songs like 1999 and Purple Rain...that's the trade off...But u can't tell me Prince is playing it safe by doing a 15 minute jam session of "Stratus"....That's just not the case...

L4OATheOriginal said:

if people had a good time than that's cool i have no problems with that, my problem lies within the artist himself. period.

It's all good...I just think it comes down to you being a highly obsessive fan...Comparing after hour shows is what hardcore fans do...The everyday fans and novices are not the ones complaining...The folks in attendance had no idea what set Prince played last year in London...Hell, most of them were shocked when he played "Crimson & Clover" "Wild Thing" and covers of the Cars and Doobie Brothers songs...

All this to say that such complaints are unwarranted in this case...

I think because security stopped people from going up because so many people were trying to get on stage at the time.

I talked with the keyboard player after the show (my apologies, I do not know his name). I have a lot of friends who are professional musicians and play some interesting places. But to them, each show, even in a new cool venue, is just another gig.

So I asked Mr. Keyboard player (I feel bad that I don't know his name!) if this was just another gig - since all he was doing was playing in another hotel lounge. I thought it was a good question.

He said - every night with Prince is different. There's always something happening. So that keeps everyone on their toes. (I think that's my phrase, not his).

You could tell how much fun everyone in the band was having. Afterwards Shelby was sitting outside on the deck... and she had a huge smile on her face.

Well, now that I have had over 24 hours for this to sink in and I can hear and walk again, I am truly grateful for this experience out of nowhere. If we think back, a week ago, we were all going about our business and the last thing we expected in the world was that we would be seeing Prince on Friday night, let alone the way we all saw him, one of his best shows ever in a close-up and intimate atmosphere. Truly a blessing! I am recharged until the next encounter.

It was part of the contest to win free tickets to the show. Where's Fluffy is the name of the band in the movie Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, and it was used as the basis for the contest. In addition, "Fluffy" was a user name created over at HQ while the scavenger hunt of the contest was going on.

One funny note..during the first show, Prince walked briefly into the crowd andasked if anyone wanted to interview him. I quickly replied "Who's Fluffy?"He immediately started to laugh and then went back on stage and repeated the question to Josh Dunham who also started to laugh. This is proof positive that Prince is in tune with what goes on on these boards. [/b]

Who do you think came up with the "Where's Fluffy?" concept for the contests ? lol

lol That was funny. When I first saw the contest title about "Where's Fluffy?" I had no idea what that was all about, but it was actually fun trying to solve the puzzle, and the reward was well worth playing the game. I was on such a purple cloud when I found out I won tickets to the aftershow, that on my way home on the train, I missed the stop I was suppose to get off on, and got off the next stop instead. lol

The other important thing to remember is that Prince feeds off the energy of the audience, as most performers do. It makes him feel good to help us feel good. He keeps his audience in mind. If he knew he was playing a show for 500 of us .orgers (OMG, could you imagine) he would undoubtedly hook us up with some obscure but deeply loved and appreciated (by us) funk.

"Don't u miss the feeling music gave ya, back in the day?" That's what he's offering. . .and if you can just feel it instead of analyzing it, it can be new and wonderful every time--when you're there. That's what the high is that people talk about. And man, I'm jonesin' for it. . .

Here's a brief writeup from New York Magazine:

http://nymag.com/daily/in...rince.html

Waiting in Line to See Prince

We had a healthy set of celebrity sightings as we waited in line to get to the roof of the Gansevoort Hotel on Friday night. We were there to see Prince play one of two secret shows. We'd missed Howard Stern and Spike Lee, who went to the earlier show (they apparently had to get home before midnight or they turned even more pumpkinlike than they are now). Tom Green and Dennis Rodman rolled up first, looking a little out of place (they're on Celebrity Apprentice together or some such). Someone said to Green, "Are you here for Prince?" "Huh? He's playing?" the comedian asked. "That's cool." We think they didn't get in — we didn't see them upstairs. Later that night, Rodman was all light-headed drunk at Carnegie Deli in the company of two drunk hicks he met at a bar. Ha!

Top Chef almost-winner Sam Talbot jumped to the head of the outdoor queue. We boarded an elevator with him (the elevators at the Gansevoort hold maybe five skinny coked-up ladies — any more and it beeped madly and wouldn't close). The crowd couldn't seem to understand. "I was stuck in an elevator a week ago for an hour," Talbot told us. "Now whenever I'm in one, I look around and wonder who's going to be the one that freaks out." The door beeped. Talbot pointed surreptitiously at a short man. "He's going to be the one to freak out." The short man near the front didn't leave.

Upstairs, the lucky 200 people who did deserve to see Prince crowded very tightly into a small room with a big stage. Anderson Cooper was there with a friend who was a boy. They were eating dinner on the terrace. It seemed romantic. Dave Chappelle was there, muscular. Prince was there too, emerging from the space beneath the stage like a funky leprechaun. He's so wee and ageless! How can he truly be 50? Every American — gay or straight, black or white, male or female (because Prince is partially all of these) — would do well to emulate Prince.
