I'll have to say.

The show was dope.

I was happy to see some folks from the NPG community that I haven't seen in a while.

I think Shelby J has great charisma. I wish people respected that more.

I was hurt by the lack of real supporters on my side of the view but it didn't ruin my groove.

I loved the covers! I mean we all know HE GOT TOO MANY HITS (c) Prince but I think his renditions on the covers were slamming. That harmonica player though was on his superhuman business!

I ended up bumping my head doing THE BIRD in the back with people but it was well worth it. AND I JUST WOKE UP!

Peace and Light

don't judge the show like that - it was actually a really great aftershow !! I've seen Prince a whole lot of times, lost count, but even if you hear the same song - it always sounds fresh & a bit different. His energy was great, the band was on top. Had a great night! Now I wish I could have slept more than the 3 hrs I got.

Exactly. Nothing ever sounds the same. I loved it. It's my 27th show and I'm still awe struck. Plus he touched my hand.

AHHHHH!

One of the better small (non-fullblown stage tour)shows I have seen over the past 25 yrs from here to Minneapolis. Caught up in the moment? NO! It truly rocked even for Mr. Nelson.Just the covers alone were well worth the price of admission. It was nice to have the opportunity to see some of the 3121 Vegas & Roosevelt format in NYC-Where all the critics may not love U..but they know U. 94 East where it really got moving for P and U know he could never forget NYC. I remember during the Parade Tour Aug 1986 @ MSG Him saying to the crowd how he once told his sister's boyfriend as they were walking through Penn Station that one day he would play the Garden & the boyfriend just laughed.

As Billy said in Purple Rain "the Kid is in rare form 2 night. Jungle Love, The Bird (I thought it was America on the first few keys, I started out with Aristocrats on a Mountain High sad , Glamorous Life, Love Bizarre "I got so many hits I could play to tomorrow (Manic Monday would have surely been played then). Shhh never gets old, NEVER!

"I'm from the 80's" P-exclaimed a few times, true indeed. For a moment I thought I was at a house party in the 80's-yes it was for me being so close up front that intimate. Got a nice handshake from Mr. Hayes and another hand touch with Prince. After about three songs I said to myself now I know why this is the only artist I ever loved and supported for more than two thirds of my life. Like many of us when it comes to Prince...no one can take the place of our man!

Thank U for the heads-up from the org and HQ on tix sales, U guys Rock! cool

Yeah...u guys really had to be there...That shit was a party, not a concert...There was nothing to complain about...and trust me, I've been very vocal about some of the lackluster shows Prince has done...But this shit was just crushing...Especially the second show....Insane guitar....

I agree nod definitely one of the more smaller more intimate shows he's done here, it was a night to remember! loved how he took time out to give some handshakes and hi fives before calling it a night. THANKS TO PRINCE AND THE WHOLE GANG FOR A FABOLOUS NIGHT AND PRETTY COOL GIFT BAG!

I was Purplecam's guest last night. I want to than Prince.org for making that possible for us to attend. We had a great time. I will not post the songs, because others did it very well. I was in the front for both shows. The band was great. Prince looked fabulous and he was having a good time, as were we. I wish those who weren't there would stop calling it lame. Prince played 4 and a half hours worth of music for us last night. If he played unfamiliar music or new music, then the haters would be complaining about that. It sounds really petty, when people on HQ and the org, that weren't at a show are injecting negativity into such a great experience that we and the others that were there had.

I hung with Purplecam, the other lady that one the contest here, and her guest(I am too tired to go looking for their user name) Vysyons, Devoted Puppy, Rsp, Revelationsunshine, Utopia7, 2Elijah, Flicktyt (thanks for giving me the towel that Prince threw out), Lovenharmony, Largerroom, Porsche, Stephane (the lead singer from the Days of Wild), and others that I may be forgetting. Not one of them are on either site trashing what they experienced. Thanks to all for making this one of the best nights of my life. Now if only my feet and knees would stop throbbing....

Also.. a shout out to the other winners that said hi to me.... Partyman76 and Milton. I hope you both had a great time.

How do u figure that he had the nerve 2 play Sheila and Time, Prince wrote all those songs and spearheaded all their albums!

murph said:

LOL...Yeah, I was there for both shows...Prince basically just tore down that stage...This is a 50 year old man, yall...His guitar was talking to folks...lol...Insane guitar display...Zone like playing...And he had an harmonica player come on for a few songs...His current band was the tighest I've ever heard it: just a drummer, a bassist and a keyboard player...Very stripped down...

BUT: The second show was one of the best Prince gigs he's ever done...One white affluent cat turned to me and said "I think I just saw something historical..."

Hell, his first show was 2 and a half hours...and the second was 3!!!!.....He had those rich people going nuts, jumping up and down...

Girl & Boys, U Got The Look, Controversy, Purple Rain, Sexy Dancer, &, Purple Rain, Cream, Alphabet Street, Shhh, 3121, Musicology, 1999....And then there was the covers...

The Cars' "Let's Go"
Crimson and Clover
EWF's "Can't Hide Love
The Stones' Honky Tonk Woman and Miss U
Ohio Players' I Want To Free (Prince: "Sugerfoot messed me up back in the day...his Afro was and it leaned to the side! How could u compete with that?!"....lol)
Stratus
a little Chaka
Jimi's Red House (not Purple as he usually does...)

And then he had the nerve to do some Time and Sheila E songs...He busted out Jungle Love, The Bird, Love Bizarre, and The Glamorous Life....Just insane...

Prince: "You guys really don't want me up here!...I can be on this stage all night!...I keep telling yall I got too many hits!!!"

Man, I don't know what to say after this one...

Yep, the "Hits" means songs people like, people go and pop a thousand bucks for songs they like and want to entertained.

who wants to hear 90's crap?, there are a few great 90's tracks and a couple of great recent ones too, but he plays a bulk of his greatest songs.

IF he released another great album that everybody diged, im sure thats what he would play, and what people would expect him to play.

all 13 of you that dont want to hear the hits in the mix, who cares!.... nobody misses your asses there anyway cool

lol well said..
& as 4 the hits, what's so wonderful about hearing them
over & over is how he can switch them up..
i'm always impressed when he can make those songs sound different,
like hearing something new..
also love the mash ups.. 3121/dmsr/ragtime stuff, from new cd
but he could drop some of the covers & do some different ones!
i'm partial 2 prince & covers, but he's done some of them once too often & they got a bit stale imo.. EXCEPT wholelottalove razz
the hits r NEVER stale..even the ones from the 90's

Freddy, I understand u haven't been feeling well, but your negativity regarding Prince is getting old and annoying. You are the one that should sing a different song, or listen to the one that starts off with, "Shut up, already damn!" Stop trying to rain on our parade. We all had a great time last night. I was wondering how they arranged it. Did Morris play synth horns on it? who did the hook?

Or was it more like just bass and drums and them singing the lyrics over it?
[Edited 10/11/08 10:28am]

Hey, Gary! Morris definitely played the synth horns; sorry if I didn't make that clear. It wasn't a stripped-down bass and drums version. It was just that the bass was more accented and funky on it than the original and it caught my ear. It sounded great!

Cool. I wish I had been there. I want to see how the arrange it like that cuz my band is just me on keys, with 1 guitar and bass.

This now brings my prince concerts/appearances to 75 total, i never believed that i would ever get to that point with any artist, and some will say how can u see someone that much, well to be honest, no event has been similar, not even the 21 musicology shows i saw, it never got tired and you find alot of things different when you go that much and look at every detail and every note and move. Where these shows rank in my 75 is hard to say because im always on a high after a show then theres that crash when its over, but after a few weeks or so i will know where it ranks with me.

And really the majority of these appearances/shows have come after the wb era ended. The reason i say appearances/shows, because i am counting the Today Show concerts in that total, and the "new power soul" listening party at the Spy Bar here in NYC that he held back in 1998 that i got into too, though he didnt play i met him for about 10 seconds at about 3am that morning as he was walking towards the stairs with a bodyguard and had to pass me to get to the stairs, i had my back to him, and instead of saying "excuse me" he put his hand on my back i turned around and he said "damn, dont you sleep"

Don't let the haters affect you so much. Sounds like the people that were actually there had a great time. The only ones complaining are the ones who weren't. That speaks volumes right there.
And remember, a hater's job is to hate. That's what they do. Prince has always had haters and he always will.
BTW, you are very lucky and I am very jealous. I will now be forced to hate on you. lol
