Why did they get that anorexic waste of space Sophie Ellis Bextor reviewing the 7th? She's such a massive fan that she doesn't recognise most of the songs...bitch can't sing, can't perform and only got where she is thanks to her mum. Fuck her.

I'm picking up a vibe here that suggests you may not be her biggest fan.

Seems The Telegraph is going to review each of the 21 nights, which will make an interesting read. The first four reviews have each been by four different people, so if the trend continues you would think the results would make a more rounded and fair assessment.

Sophie Ellis Bextor says:
"I have always been a massive fan. I still listen to albums like Purple Rain."
...
"But when I go to gigs I want to hear the hits, the songs I know, so on that level I thought it was disappointing."

Please... Sophie calls herself a massive fan and the only songs she knows are on Purple Rain!?!? Me thinks that does not a massive fan make. no no no! lol

Ha ha ha! I'm definitely not. She does make a few salient points (I've also got no time for bringing up a bunch of people on stage and having them up for what seemed like an eternity, complete with karaoke) but for her to refer to herself as a performer is a joke. By the way Sophie, it looks like you're about to be dropped by your record label. What a shame.

I wrote this in response to ready SEB's review in another thread - here it is...

To be fair i can understand her point. A casual fan or non-fan would probably have that opinion. However, anyone who has been a fan for years and seen him at least once before will know that he's been doing the medleys for virtually ever - just with a mixture of different songs. They will also be aware that each show would be different to some extent from the previous.

For me seeing Prince live is just the best live experience you can have seeing a major star. I enjoy going to any type of gig and seeing a live band - be it in the local pub or in an arena. The live music experience is something special.

Unfortunaly the world is made up of people who are not all into music to the same degree. And they're mostly the sort of people that like to hear just the hits/songs they know played exactly the same as the record/cd. If they want that then they should go and see someone like Madonna, who plays the same songs in the same sequence whether it's London, Madrid, Rome or New York.

If you want a REAL live music experience from a real worldwide star that only those on any particular night will witness then Prince is the man!

Well put Mong.

So the posh little tart has never heard Little Red Corvette, Raspberry Beret, ICNTTPOYM, Alphabet St, Cream, U Got The Look, I Feel 4 U, Controversy, If I Was your Girlfriend, Kiss, Purple Rain, Let's Go Crazy, Take Me With You.

She definitely had a deprived childhood in la la West London if she missed all these UK Top 40 hits and can't even clap along with 20000 others at a concert - what's that all about! The girl is seriously fucked up - never liked her and now I know why. Go choke on a plate of Alfalfa sprouts!!

Gosh, if the reviews are going to be like that they are pretty unnecessary. They don't really say anything. If Sophie really were a massive fan she would have known all the songs because as far as I know P didn't do any song a fan wouldn't know.

They should let us orgers write the reviews instead. THAT would have been something worth the space. smile

These reviews say something about the person writing them, at least as much as they do about Prince. In that sense these are mini columns, and make an interesting series, perfect for light reading.

must not get angry, must not get angry.....aaaaarggggghhhhh.

sorry, but i've now read enough reviews that bear no relation to the xperiences and nights i've so far seen. so iv'e decided that there r far more important things 2 worry about, so why don't we just do what prince seems to be doing, having a fu#*in good time at the shows and not giving a flying f#ck what these 'z' listers think, (although in some of the "reviewer's" cases, "think" is a generous adjective for them).

if they want the hits, the hits and nothing but the hits, they should sit at home listening to 'ultimate prince' (shame to waste 'the hits, collectors edition' on them), and give their tickets to people who actually want to be involved with the show, rather than sit there and be entertained as tho' prince was a friggin' jukebox or something.....

calm, calm...and relax.

He asked people if they wanted to hear Pop Life, just before Lolita, but didn't sing it. Daily Telegraph are bunch of right wing idiots anyway. And as for not singing 1999, they don't really go in for fact checking do they?

What kind of shit is this?????:

http://www.telegraph.co.u...nce106.xml

"Everyone on stage was black; in the audience were fewer black faces than you'd see in a Nando's on a Friday night. The crowd, many in their thirties, a noticeable number very fat, went along with the Prince myth, even if they might not want their daughters to plan a walking holiday with him."

What has this to do with the review of a concert?????

As bigger fans, we are likely to jump to Prince's defence, but I have to say, I think the general vibe of those reviews is correct. It doesn't matter if they get the odd track wrong, because they are representing the majority audience.

If the casual fan is saying "enough of these medley's" then they are becoming obviously frustrating all round.

For his audience, 400,000 casual European fans, I'm sure they would much rather hear Little Red Corvette in its entirely, than one verse and chorus of three seperate songs. In fact, hearing just a snippet is worse than not hearing it at all.

Prince's attention span for the hits its his biggest problem live. Its almost as if Prince is trying quickly remind us of the hits, so he can spend 15 minutes on an instrumental jam. Fine for him, not for his audience.

Even when he does flesh a hit out, he still can't bring himself to complete it, Lets Go Crazy, Kiss, Girls and Boys, U Got the look. All of them have whole verses and choruses cut out even now.

I also think wasting time on covers (Play that funky music, Wonderful World, Pass the peas, Crazy) is a crime, when he is missing out delivering songs like 1999, When Doves Cry and The Most Beautiful Girl In The World.

To the bulk of the audience, its the lack of those hits that relegates the show from being a truely great concert, to a good concert.

To us more hardcore fans, its fine. The shows are great. But I think P should go one way or the other. Play the hits properly for the general audience, or play the new and obsure stuff for us.

This halfway house never leaves anyone as satisfied as they could be.

The Telegraph has gone too far this sort of commentary. I'm not even black, this is just poor journalism, hidden agenda the guy who wrote that review. As for Sophie Ellis...well you make up your own mind.

I find the covers frustrating, as well as the amount of time apportioned to them, especially when he often does truncated versions of his own songs. Here's a man who has one of the best back catalogues of songs, who sometimes doesn't seem aware of the fact.
