Not as lame as Samantha Mumba owning up to the fact that she never heard of David Bowie when she sampled Ashes to Ashes for he first hit single. My daughter is 3 and she knows who David Bowie is, duh.

But only because you play David Bowie to her. Or is she discussing David Bowie with her kindergarden friends? biggrin

wow- i haven't read the reviews, but I don't like what I'm reading here. they sound terrible. and what do fat people have to do with the shows? and did I see some discriminating comments about "the whole band being African American"? there's nothing wrong with that! I'll stick to reading org reviews and the 3121.com reviews.

All I can say is THANK YOU Sophie.. =)

I bought 2 Vip tickets for the 16th (£474)
and 2 Vip tickets for the aftershow (£150)

But now thanks to Sophie's well balanced and informative article, I don't think I'll bother going..

Yeah right.. he he hee

If anyone says to you, "yeah I love Prince, especially that Purple Rain album" beware.. Stay well clear... I guarantee it's the only feckin one they heard of..!!

And Sophie only bought it so she and her upper-class scuzz-fucks for friends could have a good old chuckle under the bed-covers at boarding school coz it's the first time they heard the word "masturbate"

What the Hell??!?!? i dont know who the man is who wrote it but is he white? cause thats quite a racist set of remarks there neutral neutral neutral neutral

The reviewer for the third show has, at least, got one thing right...

...saying the show was "musical christmas pudding". I love Christmas pudding, so for me that line's perfect!

I'm having a second helping on the 24th. razz

Just because you don't agree with a particular review does not make it wrong or necessarily bad, for every review you don't agree with you'll find at least one that you do.

thumbs up! The more brutally honest and detailed the better.

Yes, and I like the fact that people with crutches got up and danced. I'm going on Tuesday, and I don't care what he plays as long as the audience can dance to most of it. Considering that he is running for 21 nights, we'll just have to tolerate the views of the casual fans. But at least he's over here. Rejoice!

Sophie Ellis Bextor lost all credibilty she had with me (if she ever had any anyway) when she mentioned the Twinz playing their legs like a guitar as a POSITIVE thing. neutral That's a cringe-worthy moment if there ever was one, far worse than getting people to yell "funky London!". lol Although I couldn't bring myself to do that either. biggrin

I hope she was kidding. disbelief

It seems that every1 here does not like Sophie???
I went to see George Michael at Carrow Rd in Norwich (UK) earlier this year and Sophie was his support act. Why is every1 dissing her, I thought she was absolutely

FUCKING SHIT

So what gives her the right to comment on an artist as big as Prince.
When she learns to sing and can become a complete showman (Woman) like Prince then maybe, just maybe she will have earned the right to inform us of her comments.Such a big fan, I bet she couldn't even list his last 3 albums.

I'd still shag her but as for the review, well

ITS ALL BOLLOCKS 2 ME

Sophie Ellis Bexter chats a load of sh*t!!
What songs did she "not know"? She can't be such a big fan like she claims if she didn't know a lot of the songs he played. I went to see him on the 10th and he was absolutely magnificent, I couldn't fault it at all, it was seriously the best night of my life. So f*ck you Sophie and invest in some more Prince albums!!

Sophie is quoted as saying "when I go to gigs I want to hear the hits, the songs I know, so on that level I thought it was disappointing. He plays lots of songs you don't know, and even worse he does these little medleys where he sits at the piano for 20 minutes and plays a few bars of a hit before switching to another. That felt like a token gesture."

The Facts:
Prince has had 18 top 10 singles in the UK. On the night in question Prince performed 11 of these which is 61% of his UK top 10 singles. Only one of these was performed during the piano medley but disregarding that he would still have played 55% of his UK top 10's. If she dosen't even know the UK top 10's she shouldn't attempt to call herself a Prince fan.

Ergo I feel I have scientifically discredited Ms. Ellis-Bextor's review and not just given my opinion. Therefore I have to also disagree with FunkyAphrodite's earlier comment that "No one needs to be qualified to review a concert, a record or a film - as a review is generally going to be the opinion of the writer. Just because you don't agree with a particular review does not make it wrong or necessarily bad." In this particular instance Sophie can't back up what she says. She claims to be a Prince fan but obviously isn't.

Why is it funny to make threats like this. For me it crossed a line.
Maybe because I'm tired. I will reconsider my position tomorrow.

It's not a threat, it's play on words

I.E. Sophies first single was called murder on the dancefloor..

Fridays and Saturdays shows are reviewed (links on the first post) for anyone that's interested.

Seems the lastest 2 are a little more favourable

The thing that interests me about all this is not the reviews themselves (they are mostly pretty perfunctory and much more informative reviews are available on this very site), but the reason the Daily Telegraph is doing this at all.

Do you think they have some sort of promotional tie-in in mind - perhaps trying to outdo the Mail on Sunday's CD giveaway?

I doubt it. I just think that because the 21 nights by an artist like Prince is so unheard of it's demanded that kind of coverage.
