cant really elaborate on whats already been said, me and my girlfriend, me a huge fan, my girlfriend (who loves him now but only cuz over the last 3 years with me, she has had to) went tuesday andi couldnt disaggree anymore with SEB

if she was a huge fan then she mustve recognised most if not all of the songs played, even if they were in a medley, which may notbe to everyones taste buts atleast adds some variety and u do get a few more songs, all be they only verse and chorus, for your money.

my girlfriend as mentioned is not a huge fan (but she will be smile) but she thouroughly enjoyed the WHOLE show, even the songs she wasnt familiar becasue he is such a great performer that if u can sing along you can still dance along and appreciate his song craft and writing.

as far as ellis bexter is concerned i cannot believe the telegraph paid her for that "review" this is coming from a person who i can name all her songs on 3 fingers and is hardly music A list!!!

so in my opinion before she can start to be critical of a proper old school musician and performer, she shud try and spend more time hatching her own career first.....

I ask again: and wtf has this to do with his concert ????? can you blame the writer of a book that the reader of the book is fat ????? I don't see any conjunction 2 the concert. btw. have been on friday and saturday and saw many, many, many ... many realy nice "thin" ladies (both black and white) - and (and I am not gay!) many well looking men - so whats the problem, that there are fat people - don't they have the right 2 got 2 a prince concert ????

the fact, that the audience is within the thirties doesn't suprise me at all (I am 37) - we all grew up with prince 4 the last 25 years - and we love him since then. my friends and I was very pleased with the kind of audience - when we entered the arena, we were talking about, how comfortable we feel with this kind of audience - go to a U2 concert - it will be just the same.

did prince hold a gun to anyones head and make them go to these shows ?

maybe he should have printed up setlists for each night on ticketmaster so there could be no confusion ?

"25 minutes of just him playing 'beautiful ones' and 'somewhere here on earth' on piano ? no thank you! i'm an old school fan !" "20 minutes of funk ridden partying ? oh, no ! what about those nice versions of tom jones's 'kiss' and skinhead o'conner's 'nothing compares 2 u', i liked them ?"

bloody 'ell, no wonder he wants to sod off for a while and leave us all to it!

Please... Sophie calls herself a massive fan and the only songs she knows are on Purple Rain!?!? Me thinks that does not a massive fan make. no no no! lol

From the 4 setlists u hardly need 2 b a die hard fan. Besides, like Amy Winehouse, I know she's more of a MJ fan. Prince is the last of a dying breed; an all-singing, all-dancing, all-instrument playing legend, giving it his all for more than 2 hours, & these z-list artists have the cheek 2 say what they say! Lets not 4get she was in that awful indie band, The Audience. Someone should tell this twat 2 go & pretend 2 rave about The Arctic Monkeys & their like. By the way, anyone expecting 2 hear 1999, 4get it. I've been watching Prince's Larry King interview on u-know-wot-tube that was done just b4 his pay per-view Rave gig, where he said he'll perform 1999 4 the very last time, which, with his beliefs, makes sense.

Okay Sophie's review wasn't great but in fairness to her a musical moron who quite likes Prince but wasn't around in the 80's and happens to own Purple Rain would only recognise about 10 of the tracks from Tuesday's setlist.

Not as lame as Samantha Mumba owning up to the fact that she never heard of David Bowie when she sampled Ashes to Ashes for he first hit single. My daughter is 3 and she knows who David Bowie is, duh.

for fucks sake-this site is getting pathetic-i lawys thought prince had an adult audience-but i guess this is the price of being popular again-its embarassing.

sophie ellis bextors review was a more than fair one-jesus did anybody see the 95 gold tour?????

i thought it was one of the best tours he ever did but i did take pity on the casula fan expecting even just one"hit"

Sophie Ellis Bextor had ONE minor hit that is all but forgotten now and wasn't THAT good. She has no right to be even reviewing someone like Prince. That's like saying I'M qualified to properly review a musician. She's just a dumb popstar who wouldn't know music if it hit her in the face with a guitar solo machinegun

Not quite, he did have 11 top 10 hits in there, namely:
Little red corvette no.2
Raspberry beret no.2
Alphabet street no.8
Cream no.1
You got the look no.2
i feel for you no.2 (I think for Chaka??)
Controversy no.5
Kiss no.1
Purple rain no.2
Let's go crazy no.1
Take me with you no.7

How many other artists haven't even achieved that many top 10's?

No one needs to be qualified to review a concert, a record or a film - as a review is generally going to be the opinion of the writer. Just because you don't agree with a particular review does not make it wrong or necessarily bad, for every review you don't agree with you'll find at least one that you do.

I went to the first show with my gf who is not as big a fan as i am. If we were to both write a review i am sure mine would be more glowing and favourable to Prince than hers. But it doesn't mean hers would be wrong or mine right - both would be the opinion of 2 different individuals.

Although i personally do not agree totally with the SEB review she does have a point regarding recognisable songs from a casual listeners perspective. But then if that's what you want don't go and see Prince! I prefer the mixture of old and new and singles and album tracks that he's performed for years. But that's not always to everyones taste.

I will be interesting to see who the paper sends next to review a concert and what that review will be like!

It's an amalgam of the US and UK I think the Irish charts just copied the UK ones.

I love it that Prince plays what he wants and not what some Purple Rain fans want to hear. I love the 15 minute long instrumental jams. He must be so tired of playing the hits over and over. I had an ex girlfriend years back, who's girlfriend hated when artists "jammed" at concerts instead of just playing the song and then going to the next song. To say she was an idiot is being way too nice. I find it hilarious that music lovers can't get into other music and instead expect to hear "the hits." How lame can you be if you can't get into a song "you don't know?" You're telling me you don't have the intellectual capacity or depth to do that? I just have to laugh.

What makes you think being fat is by choice? If two overweight people have a child, and that person grows up to be overweight, is it really by choice? You don't feel some people have better genetics than others? Don't make me laugh. It's like being shocked that attractive people produce attractive offspring.
