I set up an account on it years ago (twitter too) but I've never really used either of them. All those things seem so pointless to me. If I want to keep in touch with people, I've got a phone. What do I need Facebook for?

Yep. It's where most of the Orgers went and remained. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

Never used Facebook and never will. Same with other platforms such as twitter, instagram, etc.

I had my FB account closed for good many years ago and thank goodness that I've NEVER had pictures of myself on it. The main reason was out of respect for my own constitutional right to privacy. Even today, it sadden me to know that people will still use FB despite the fact that everything [especially pictures!] they show on their FB & Instagram accounts becomes part of the FB database AND CIA database.

As soon as I found out that I was the product they were selling I deleted my account.

My info was being tracked and sold. It's very intrusive.

It depends on what you do with and how you use it, and in my case this also depends on who I use it with. For example, it is much more convenient to check up on my relatives in different countries, see how they´re doing, see their pictures every now and then, or have a chat or videocall for free without having to use my phone. It´s also a great tool to stay in touch with my American friends. I have a bunch of Facebook friends who I barely see on FB, and that I don´t really feel like communicating with but they´re still on my friends list.....mostly former classmates from decades ago, or people I barely speak with. Another thing I´ve noticed is that different people from different cultures and nations have a different way of using Facebook, and there are of course huge generational differences, too. Younger people barely use FB these days, whereas the socalled Boomer generation takes FB a bit too seriously. Some just use it as a stage to express their views and opinions, some use it as a way to escape their mediocre lives and feel more important than they actually are. But, all in all, I´m glad I can still stay in touch with many people, especially many dear ex-orgers who don´t visit prince.org anymore but spend a lot of time on Facebook, and it means a lot to me to be able to reach out to them. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I know what you mean. I´m still on both platforms, p.org and FB but I hate to discuss Prince stuff on FB especially since my FB friends list is growing longer and longer and many Prince groups on FB are open groups and I just don´t want all my relatives, colleagues, former classmates etc. etc. see me discussing Prince solos or aftershows or bandmembers and whatnot on Facebook for everybody to see. Not that there´s anything wrong with discussing Prince but I just find it a bit odd that every friend , aunt, uncle or colleague can see me discuss song lyrics or other details there. I have to say that the longer I´m on FB ,the more careful I´ve become . The FB personality I had years ago is no longer the one I share these days simply because there are too many people there who don´t have to see my weirder humorous sides, or food tastes, music tastes etc. etc. It didn´t really bother me in the first years but these days I think twice about liking or commenting something, knowing that a bunch of people will be able to see it. . As far as orgers are concerned....if they still feel like discussing Prince, I´d rather see them come back and discuss the same things here on the org instead of spreading those discussions onto a dozen Prince pages on Facebook, but that is up to them and I´m not judging, just saying that I´d love to see that activity here on the org and not on FB. I love the relative privacy and anonymity and also the fond memories here on the org. And not just here but forums in general....so much better than FB. I can tell that there still seems to be an interest in discussing all things Prince, or Music:NonPrince, or even General Discussions and P&R but it´s kind of sad that mismanagement , neglect and mutual animosities have done so much harm to this wonderful forum. Maybe it's just my anti-social nature but the whole social media thing just isn't for me. I live in Ireland and I have a lot of friends who live abroad, mainly in the UK and America and my brother lives in France. But I've got WhatsApp which means I can make calls, video calls and send messages completely free. That's why Facebook has no appeal to me. In fact, I hate the idea of old school friends, colleagues etc contacting me. If I wanted to keep in touch, I'd have their number, you know? Or I'd give them mine. Like I said though, that's very much down to me being quite anti-social in general. I'm happy in my little social bubble.

Emma I see your point and i think alot of people feel that way sometimes ...
for me - facebook was eye opening for a few years ... it was an easy way to catch up with such people i met in europe and would have never seen again ....
it was neat to hear some of their stories - i have one friend who had gotten married and she had 2 kids and her husband died .... it was heart breaking to hear her story ... but i loved to see her getting her self up by her bootstraps etc ....
sadly she left facebook with all the trump crap lol Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Every time I go on facebook I either see drama posted by friends or some people posting the craziest things.Like who in the hell cares what you ate for breakfast Also its very weird to get friend requests from people you dont know or will never meet.I feel like it's a popularity contest to ser who has the most friends sometimes.

It felt like that in the first few years of having Facebook but am satisfied with the number I have Sometimes I feel I get too personal on there too, today I shared a status about my second interview at a job I really want

I'm not on FB, but I am curious as to the decline of the Org. Are you talking about mutual animosities among posters? Neglect? Do you feel comfortable elaborating? (I understand if you are not)

1. Yes, animosities and arguments between orgers but also , and mainly, between former orgers and the mods. I never had an issue with any of the mods and I´ve been here since day one but I understand why many people left the org, and they personally told me why, and it´s because of the very reasons I mentioned above. 2. Neglect-----> I really like Ben and I am eternally thankful that he created this site, and I´ve met him a long time ago and he´s the nicest guy you could imagine, but I´m not really sure if he cares about prince.org these days. But I´m not saying it´s just him, I mean neglect in general...some mods played power games with certain orgers, some orgers were disrespectful to mods and vice versa....I´m not really taking sides but it´s frustrating to see this place going downhill. I still like it though and as you can see I´m still here. Don´t feel like going into details because then I´d be going off topic and would risk that this thread ends up in the org´s site discussion forum. This would be unfair to the OP. 3. Among those who left it seems to be pretty much general consensus that this place sucks, at least that´s what many of them say on FB but I think it depends on what you make of this place. The same topics they discuss on FB they used to discuss here, too, but that was a long time ago. . I still get exactly what I want from this place, which is discussing anything Prince related and other musicians and their music, plus a little bit of info on associated artists, and every now and then I check out the P&R forum, too, and I get along with most folks here. Those I don´t like, I simply ignore. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I absolutely understand your point and can relate to it but I don´t have Whatsapp. I don´t even use a smartphone, I just don´t like mobile phones and only have an old 2007 one for emergency calls, and I don´t even carry that one with me all the time. As far as unwanted friend requests from old classmates and colleagues are concerned, you are right. I delete those who fuck up or don´t accept them in the first place, but some are in a grey zone. And FB is quite convenient to me , and towards my friends, because they can decide if and when they want to respond to messages or pictures or invites or whatever it is. But in essence, I understand your point and I keep many people on snooze on FB or don´t bother much with them, only with those I like and I´d really miss seeing their daily posts and occasional messages. . . . Edit: Something I forgot to mention. FB is a great way to share a hobby, there are many groups you can join and discuss a hobby and share ideas and tipps. Of course a proper forum is much better for that but it´s still nice to have. And I also use FB to get an overview of the most recent news, articles I might find interesting, etc. , depending on what kind of newspapers and magazines´ FB pages you like and click. I guess you might as well just go straight to the homepages of those magazines but it´s nice to have them all on one page. I must admit I've never even thought about that aspect of it. Which probably goes to show how little I've thought about it lol. My brother works in the video game industry and he was telling me he's part of a bunch of Facebook and Reddit groups concerning that kind of stuff. Concept art, computery stuff and the like. Flies right over my head to be honest. I guess I'm just old before my time.

In my experience the big difference between proper forums like this one or hobby forums and Facebook groups is that the Facebook interest groups are much more superficial, quick, and their content often doesn´t have the longevity of threads in proper forums. FB is like an instant coffee compared to a gourmet coffee. Proper forums give you more insight and details, you can use the search function to find threads to old topics, whether it´s here or in, say, videogaming forums or pets or vintage cars or whatever one is into but on FB you see a post, a picture , a meme and it is very for the moment , not something that you really go back to unless you really want to save it for later. It´s already outdated among the younger populace and will probably one day be a thing of the past just like MySpace and other social networks, and just like FB is indirectly killing regular forums because people get their quick fix on FB, other social networks might replace FB in the next years. I often snooze annoying people or pages or certain newspapers if things get a bit too heavy and then I have a completely different experience because only the positive topics pop up, you know, interesting sci-fi or science topics, arts, paintings, movies, post about my hobbies, etc. It can certainly be a very negative thing, too, if you give the negative stuff too much room there. Who knows, maybe in a few years all of this will be buried under the sands of time, these things come and go and we leave a trail of posts, pictures, thoughts, feelings, ideas, "friends", interests and memories behind us, on the internet, in the digital world.
