Rate the last movie you watched

Her (2013) - A lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system that's designed to meet his every need.

I'd give it a perfect rating except I felt some scenes were uncomfortable because of what could be interpreted as an absurd premise--which I'm sure was intentional. star star star star 1/2 (out of five)

August: Osage County (2013) - A look at the lives of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.

Going in I suspected I would not like it, but I saw it anyway for the Oscars. star star 1/2

Her 6 / 10 Really enjoyed the first hour, second half of the movie, not so much.

Wolf Of Wall Street 8.5 / 10 Di Caprio was brilliant in it.

Ver hard to decide who should get the Oscar nod for best actor Di Caprio or Matthew McConaughy for Dallas Buyers Club as they were both outstanding performances......But I would think Matthew just shades it.

Just watched Captain Phillips over the weekend. I give it 8/10. Really well done movie and Tom Hanks was terrific as usual.

The actor that played the main pirate was awesome too. So believeable in his role.

Dirty Wars (2013) - Investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill is pulled into an unexpected journey as he chases down the hidden truth behind America's expanding covert wars.

The atrocities exposed here are sadly not that surprising. star star star star

I actually saw this (despite my aversion to both Joaquin Phoenix and Spike Jonze). Agree that the premise is absurd. It was generally pretty to look at, and there were some interesting ideas in it. But I find that Jonze's focus is always on impressing with quirk and I hate quirk.

P.S. I always forget that Rooney Mara is in this and she was fine (and is fine boff).

Lone Survivor (2013) - Marcus Luttrell and his team set out on a mission to capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, in late June 2005 and are left to fight for their lives in one of the most valiant efforts of modern warfare.

It was better than I expected. star star star 1/2

North By Northwest (1959) - A hapless New York advertising executive is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies, and is pursued across the country while he looks for a way to survive.

It was my first time seeing this movie. I didn't know it was so funny--particularly the final shot. Hilarious. star star star star

OK is 2.5/5. 3.5/5 is GOOD. Your rating system is messed up.

Omar (2013) - A young Palestinian freedom fighter agrees to work as an informant after he's tricked into an admission of guilt by association in the wake of an Israeli soldier's killing.

A little predictable, but it's still a riveting story. star star star star

If it wasn't funny at all, I would have rated it just half a star.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013) - Based on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.

It's quite a spectacle. Leonardo DiCaprio was very good though. star star star star

I'd give it 2.5/5. It 's the barest plot and almost as hilarious as the Jackass movies. It's a series of skits but lots of laughs.

Co-sign but I give it 5/5.

This is a three hour male fantasy of women, drugs, money and power.

What's not to love?

Not sure why it received a Best Picture nod other than the subject matter.

3/5.

Dallas Buyers Club is a good movie, fulfilled with good acting, but that's it actually.

I find The Great Beauty and 12 Years a Slave the best and most subtle movies this year who have a strong classic potential, otherwise, Her has a pretty good chance to be the Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind of this decade... even if its not as complex, its a well written film.

It was lovely. But I would like my next viewing to be with the original Japanese language track instead of the English dub. star star star star 1/2
