You're absolutely right. The story depicted in that movie is just too painful for me to take. Your comments actually remind me of a discussion I had with someone here about Lars Von Trier's movies, Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark specifically. I like both of them (Breaking more than Dancer), but neither of them ever really hit me on a reptile-brain level, and I've heard many people say they had these primal, emotional reactions to both films. That I could see being a gender thing since both movies involve female humiliation, but I've always thought it was the somewhat unrealistic characters, the way they were portrayed, that kept me distanced from them. [Edited 11/29/12 4:01am] You had that discussion with me I'm the mistake you wanna make

Beethoven: Eroica 5/5 I have no idea what one would call this, it isn't a docu and it isn't exactly a film, but it is. Anyway, I'd buy it.
Re-creating a historic moment -- June 9, 1804, when Ludwig van Beethoven unveiled his masterpiece "Eroica" (Symphony no. 3) to a select audience at the Lobkowitz palace.

I'm going maverick and I'm going to rate the movie I'm watching right now.
It's "The Dark Knight".
The movie is very, very boring but Heath Ledger is great. Right now, I'm at the point where The Batman is interrogating The Joker in jail, and The Joker just told The Batman, "You complete me".
He was a great The Joker, completely different than Jack Nicholson's The Joker.
I don't get why they spliced in Clint Eastwood's voice for The Batman's, though. What are they going to do when Clint Eastwood no longer wants to do voice work? Who will be The Batman's voice then?
But I digress.
This movie just can't hold my attention. Morbid as it sounds, I'm now only watching to see if I can figure out what scenes the other actors that played The Joker were in.
Ah, screw it. I'm just going to wikipedia it.
UPDATE: I just read the wikipedia page on this movie. And then my clicker went "click".
SECOND UPDATE: I read the cast information, and it looks like Heath Ledger was in all the scenes but it doesn't matter as I clicked off this movie right when the chick got blown to smithereens. . [Edited 11/30/12 19:11pm]

I picked up Taxi Driver on Blu-ray about a month ago and tried watching it last night, but it wouldn't play in my laptop. Apparently newer blu-rays aren't compatible with the software I'm running, and I haven't been able to find any programs that will play the disc. Middle-class frustrations! [Edited 12/1/12 8:15am]

Headhunters (2011). 3.8/5. A pretty neat thriller. The film follows a successful corporate headhunter (Askel Hennie) who is deep in debt, and so has turned to stealing and selling art to maintain his lifestyle. When he goes after one particular painting, however, he discovers a secret that makes him a target for the sort of people we’d all rather avoid.

pff... 3/5
I guess that's all a psychopathic feminist and a total bimbo can do: to drive off a cliff
blame it on the men? no sir, I don't think so blame it on the ludicrous/manipulative script
I didn't wanna see this movie to begin with...

Anna Karenina (2012) - Set in late-19th-century Russia high-society, the aristocrat Anna Karenina enters into a life-changing affair with the affluent Count Vronsky.
I didn't mind the overstylized treatment. In fact, I rather liked it initially--there is a ballroom dancing scene early on that has to be seen to be believed. It dragged in the second half though and I'm growing a bit tired of Kiera Knightley in these type of period pieces.

Sexton did you see "The Searchers" on the big screen? Big Western fan and The Searchers is one of my favorite of this genre of all time. Really a showcase for John Wayne before his acting and films became one giant cliche. I never seen a restored version of this film and I wish they would clean it up one, John Ford at his very best.
I keep swaying back and forth if I should see the 4th remake of Anna Karenina because present day remakes are usally bad. The second remake of this film starring Vivian Leigh and Sir Ralph Richardson in my opinion is the best.

I watched The Searchers on blu-ray projected onto a 90" screen. Blu-ray.com gives the blu-ray disc a perfect 5/5 PQ. If you can't see it at the cinema, this is the next best thing. This is what my parents' setup looks like:
The new Anna Karenina is definitely different. Think Moulin Rouge without the musical numbers.

The Central Park Five (2012) - A documentary that examines the 1989 case of five black and Latino teenagers who were convicted of raping a white woman in Central Park. After having spent between 6 and 13 years each in prison, a serial rapist confessed to the crime.
It's too bad none of the prosecutors or officers involved agreed to be interviewed. Other than that, I can't find much wrong with this. 1/2

Alfie (1966) 2.8/5 Never seen it. I guess it was quite breakthrough as far as it's subject matter for that time period. Michael Caine was a cutie, I know he was 'terrible' back then. I know it's considered a classic but I don't see me watching it again within the next decade.
Alfie (2004) 2.8/5 Saw it before and hardly remembered any of it. I was charmed for the first half of it and then I felt it just went on too long. Still, I know Jude Law is or was on the "bad list" but he was a cutie too. I thought I remembered him getting punched in this movie, but I guess it looked better for the other guy that he didn't do that, maybe I remember wanting to punch him, I don't know. Anyway, both movies were kind of fun for a minute and then I was ready to do something else, maybe I'll appreciate them better when I'm older.

I found it an intense film. It took long, and allthough I hated that, I also forced me to see it, eventhough it was highly uncomforting. I'm very happy that I saw it, though.
4/5 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

A mockumentary on the comeback of 50's (or 60's?) era child singer/diva extraordinaire Jackie Washington. Must have at least 30 cameos from Hollywood stars from both the 90's and previous decades making poignant (and some not so poignant ) observations on America's most unsung soul superstar. Genuinly funny in parts and reads like a pre-cursor to to TV One's "Unsung", in satirical form. Also stars Tim Curry & Whoopi Goldberg with appearances by Bette Midler, Penny Marshall, Robert Townsend, Rosie O'Donell, Diahann Carroll, Dolly Parton, Liza Minelli, Eva Marie Saint, Charles Barkley, Loretta Devine, Kathy Najimy, Isabel Sanford, Ricki Lake, Chris Rock, Grace Slick, Rosie O'Donnell and I don't how many other people.
Good if you're i the mood for something cheesy and dated to the 1990's, or if you were a fan of Robert Townsend's comedy work from back then. 3/5

TRONA
I give it out of 5 Kanye stumps.
I love the low budget angle of this movie (The director had no choice). And, the lack of a clear narrative was nice. There are these huge gaps in the transition from one event to another, so you just kind of have to imagine what he goes through to get him from point a to b to c. But the moments in a, b, and c don't suffer because of it. Rather, they make the story even more charming.
It's really odd. I mean, I'm not sure why the guy leaves his old life. Nor, am I sure what he was doing in the town where he met the girl. All, I know is that the story was a nice escape for 90 minutes.
It's no as good as Let Me In, but what is?

Sound of My Voice 3/5 - Co-Written by Brit Marling, who also acts in the movie. It has many of the same qualities and overall feel as Another Earth, which she also wrote and acted in, but I found this one less interesting & engaging. However, I was rather luke-warm on Another Earth at first but came to really like it after watching it again and I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happened with this one.

Big fan of this one. And the english speaking doesn't bother me LOL. I can suspend disbelief...
As it's a David Lean film, it looks stunning. Not 70mm stunning though as MGM wouldn't allow it. One of the few times I have been sympathetic to someone who cheats on his wife and child, and thats one of the reasons why this movie (or novel) had some depth beneath the gorgeous visuals. Geraldine Chaplin looks cute, whilst Julie Christie looks gorgeous.
My last film....
Read the book "to kill a mockingbird" as a child and only remembered the funny character names and the main trial. Completely forgot about Boo Radley. Anyway, saw it for the first time and was amazed at how good Gregory Peck was! I have found him wooden in other films but he is brilliant in this film.
Looks gorgeous too in black and white and has to be Peck's greatest triumph as an actor. Shame James Stewart turned it down. A big shame given the reason was he said it was supposedly "too liberal" for him. Coward.

Nothing personal, but I'll rate movies in whatever way creams my twinkie. Four stars feels too limiting to me.
Alex Cross gets a 2 out of 10 for skinny, creepy Matthew Fox. Otherwise, it was mostly laughable on all levels.
Arthur Christmas gets a solid 7 out of 10. I watched it with my Nephew this evening and he still talks a lot during movies. It might go up to an 8 out of 10 on a re-watch. And I will re-watch it, probably every Christmas. It was funny, visually strong, had a very positive message, and the end paid off nicely, even though you knew what was going to happen.
