Saw this movie last nigh (2:00am) on HBO. eek Riveting, I actually made an attempt to go to the movies when this came out 2 years ago but since it received American Motion Pictures NC-17 rating so, its release was limited. A short synopsis: Young attractive ad executive (Brandon) goes from one emotionless sexual encounter to another, fearing and believing long term love and intimacy are an illusion. Today his sort of casual sexual lifestyle would be labeled, an addiction. Brandon's sterile painful life is structured around work, anonymous sex, hookers, porn, masturbation, and more fucking, His world is turned upside down when his sister (Sissy) comes for a visit. This is a very solemn movie, the sex in the film isn't erotic as much as its empty. I don't think I could watch it again. The acting is exceptional, Michael Fassender (Brandon) ability to express anger, fear, pain, and sadness was overwhelming at times.

Skyfall (2012) - Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her, bringing MI6 under attack.

I don't understand how Bond survived his 'death' at the beginning of the film. Where did he get shot? Other than that, it's a pretty good action movie. And the theme song by Adele is ace. If I was a Bond fan I'd rate this higher. star star star 1/2

GORGEOUS and poetic fim. While I don't see the Academy giving Quvenzhané Wallis the Best Acrtress award (and am not sure what my own pick is til I see all the performances) I can see why she would be nominated. What she projects on screen is an outstanding achievement for a child her age (she was just 5 when she landed the part, so I'm guessing around 6 when she performed it).

4 1/2 of 5 star

You all are making me feel heartless. I watched it, shrugged my shoulders, and moved on. I thought it was better and deeper then most movies of it's kind, but I just didn't feel it. Micheal has a nice body though.

Nah, biggrin The characters and the plot kept me off kilter which was refreshing but intense.

I really didn't notice Mr. Fassbender body, his face kept my attention. If I thought I could watch again, I'd checkout his bod', . lol There some films I've watched, I know I'll never watch it again.

Coriolanus -- I can see why this is one of the Bard's lesser-performed plays. Either that, or the screenwriters flubbed it. Nice tranlation into modern times, but uneven and abrupt in the final act. Ralph Fiennes, Gerard Butler (!) and Brian Cox give good performances, but Vanessa Redgrave outshines them all.

3/5.

I enjoyed this. Probably give it 3.5/5

Chasing Ice (2012) - Follow National Geographic photographer James Balog across the Arctic as he deploys time-lapse cameras designed for one purpose: to capture a multi-year record of the world's changing glaciers.

The images of the glaciers in this film are stunning. Then there is the frightening melting rate revealed by the cameras--climate change is very real, people. Add to that the Oscar-nominated song sung by Scarlett Johansson and this documentary gets a perfect rating. biggrin star star star star star

Django Unchained (2012) - With the help of a German bounty hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner.

Its strength is the performances by the actors, particularly Christoph Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson. The story was at times goofy, but ultimately very entertaining. star star star star

I agree! 4 star s ...saw it tonight for the first time. I loved it. The cameos were crazy and the 'eyeholes' scene was just too ridiculous. I will say that there were a couple of scenes I could not watch. The fight in front of the fireplace..ugh...the dogs... ill I will have to watch it again because a few scenes confused me. confuse But I don't want to add spoilers here. neutral

The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Its epitaph reads: "We Can't Top The Joker, So We'll Just Bust Our Budget."

Not a bad movie, but to quote Peter Griffin referring to the Godfather, "it insists upon itself."

Subpar editing for a Nolan flick.

Uneven writing for pivotal characters old and new.

Solid performances all around, decent finish, but for all its bigger bombast and big themes, can't top TDK, and I sense everyone involved knew it.

Grabbers - 4/5

I approched this film with a basic knowledge what it was about...which is , small Irish community been attacked by a monster and said monster they discover was allergic to alcohal, so they all get mad drunk!!

With this in mind I was prepared for a stereo-type portrayal of Irish people and ready to slam it hard...but it is a harmless piece of FUN and to be honest I know most of the characters (maybe even be one) portrayed in this film.

Plenty of homages to other films form the genre, like Jaws and Aliens...but I really enjoyed it.

I recommend you watch it with a drink or two and a few friends over.

Sweetie and I went to see The Sound of Music on the big screen last week. I've seen it several times, but it was his first time.

We mostly went to see it because he was an exchange student in Austria during high school and a lot of the SOM locations were near places he'd stayed over there.

He didn't want me to tell anyone we went to the movie though - he's afraid his "brutha card" will be revoked if anyone finds out. lol

I loved this movie when I was a kid. (I even had the soundtrack.) As an adult, I find it a little schmaltzy.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My Oscar run continues...

Prometheus (2012) - A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

I knew going in there were flaws with this, but I didn't let them bother me so much. Perhaps because I was never a fan of the Alien series having seen only the second of the four films. Overall I thought it was very slick-looking and not terrible. star star star
