Fantastic. A lot deeper than the typical 'cowboys and indians' western and beautifully filmed in Monument Valley. 1/2

Life of Pi.

Loved loved LOVED it. 5 stars. Everyone should go out and see it on the bigscreen, preferably 3D. It was visually quite stunning and a wonderfuly story to boot.

The Secret World of Arrietty. Good movie but made me sad. 4/5 stars.

Superb movie.

Daniel Day Lewis brought perhaps the most complicated figure in American history to life in a way no other actor has quite done this side of Denzel's Malcolm X.

Why Did I Get Married Too? Comedy really? Well, it wasn't. It's the obvious Tyler Perry movie, but I thought I might give it a try because of Janet Jackson. I struggled to finish this one. It's slow and lame. 2/5

Waiting... Supposed to be a comedy, but it wasn't!!! Young employees at Shenaniganz restaurant collectively stave off boredom and adulthood with their antics. I had read great reviews, but this movie is just a lame sitcom. 1 out of 5

Growing Op! It's is a provocative dramatic comedy about a teenage boy coming of age in a suburban marijuana-growing operation! Perfect movie to watch on a Sunday afternoon. I thought it was very entertaining and twisted. 3,5 out of 5

Shoot 'em Up! Comedy/Action - A man named Mr. Smith delivers a woman's baby during a shootout, and is then called upon to protect the newborn from the army of gunmen. This movie has great action & fun. I really enjoyed the badass Clive Oven here. Monica Belluci isn't too bad either. 3,5 out of 5 for the comedy thriller. Yep, Clive Owen is watchable here!

This movie was goofy fun.

To Catch a Thief (1955) - When a reformed jewel thief is suspected of returning to his former occupation, he must ferret out the real thief in order to prove his innocence.

It's more romantic than the typical Hitchcock movie. Filmed in VistaVision in the French Rivieria alone gets a thumbs up from me.

Argo (2012) - CIA agent creates a fake Hollywood film production in order to rescue a group of American diplomats holed up in Iran at the height of the Iranian Revolution. 4/5

3 Magic Words 1.5/5 It felt shallow, but it was very pretty to look at.

The Human Experience 3.5/5 They went kind of deep. Taking the good with the bad, which impressed me, though they didn't go that deep into bad, they at least acknowledged it.

Triage 5/5 I just want to be a human being, that's hard enough, thank you very much.

Shut Up! Tais - Toi / French Comedy Crime with Gerard Depardieu!

Hilarious movie. I was laughing uncontrallably at some point, and that's the point when you know this movie kicks ass! The narration is predictable, but specific scenes and dialogues make this movie a 3,5 out of 5! WATCHABLE

Doctor Zhivago (1965) - Life of a Russian doctor/poet who, although married, falls for a political activist's wife and experiences hardships during the Bolshevik Revolution.

It was tough to really get into this one because of my personal pet peeve about films taking place in non-English-speaking countries where everyone is speaking English. It was still pretty good. Young Julie Christie! :swoon: 1/2

I watched this last night on blu-ray and it's extremely sad. Not for kids.

The Counterfeiters 4/5 Couldn't fall asleep until I saw it thru to the end. And that's with subtitles.

The film is based on a memoir written by Adolf Burger, a Jewish Slovak typographer who was imprisoned in 1942 for forging baptismal certificates to save Jews from deportation, and was later interned at Sachsenhausen to work on Operation Bernhard.

damosuzuki couldn't get through this one, but I didn't bawl like I expected to. It was a very well balanced film IMO, matter of fact and nothing overly melodramatic.

I tried twice and don’t think I made it more than 15 minutes either time. I had an emotional reaction to that film unlike any other movie I’ve watched, and the fact that you people are able to make it through makes me feel like a bit of a sissy.

But I don't think you are at all - we are both coming to this film from different viewpoints. I'm usually a complete mess when the subject has been a mother losing a child, or when a female protagonist suffers and is humiliated, or when a certain piece of Beethovens is used Those are things that hit me hardest. You're absolutely right. The story depicted in that movie is just too painful for me to take. Your comments actually remind me of a discussion I had with someone here about Lars Von Trier's movies, Breaking the Waves and Dancer in the Dark specifically. I like both of them (Breaking more than Dancer), but neither of them ever really hit me on a reptile-brain level, and I've heard many people say they had these primal, emotional reactions to both films. That I could see being a gender thing since both movies involve female humiliation, but I've always thought it was the somewhat unrealistic characters, the way they were portrayed, that kept me distanced from them.
