evillol Just curious to see how many people actually pay money for this thing per month to get set up with folks. As for me, it's not my style.

lol You know what? I have always said that I would never ever join a dating site. I always said only old and desperate people joined dating sites lol Not true of course....It actually worked for one of my friends. She found her now husband on a dating site.

Just for the fun of it about 2 years ago I signed up for BlackPeopleMeet.com. Just to see what kinda guys were on there. I wanted to see if I could actually find some hot guys on there. There were some characters..just reading the many crazy and really explicit messages I would recieve daily was pure entertainment. And then disrespectful and angry ones following when they would get ignored. I just could not deal. Besides I wasn't serious about it anyway. I lasted a week and a half. I won't be joining another one.

A couple of years ago, I tried Match.com for 3 months.

I didn't like one match they sent me, and then they renewed me automatically...

When I called to cancel, they gave me a hard time! eek

No more, thank you! talk to the hand

Yes I know a few people who have successfully used it, but I know more that it didn't work well for and met either psycho's or ax murders instead. It's tempting because it's convenient, but paying about as much as I do for my gym membership for a site to meet people...no thank you.

But my goodness, you were sent explicit messages? disbelief

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

The operator kept trying to make me give it another try. He practically told me that if I didn't need them, I wouldn't have signed up in the first place... boxed

Then he said that I should have known that it was automatic renewal. confused

He finally credited my account, but I had to speak with a manager first.

I tried eHarmony several years ago. Only went out on one date that didn't lead anywhere. I dropped it after three months or so. I thought it wasn't worth it since some guys either were taking a break, or had someone, or just no response. Last year I tried Christian Mingle for about three months. No dates, a couple of smiles and comments on my picture, but nothing beyond that. There was more interest coming from guys out of state, when I clearly stated that he should be within 100 miles. I think with dating sites unless you flood it with salacious pictures and make yourself sound more than you are; otherwise, it feels like a ghost town. I am curious about speed dating. To me, that gives more of an opportunity to just meet somebody face-to-face and know within three to five mintues whether or not they are interesting enough to take it further.

"Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

There is so much to do enabling you to meet ppl, that you CAN do alone!!!!!!

go for a walk / jog in the park

go to the beach

go shopping

go out for the day

go see a movie

go to the theatre

go to an art show

Craft Markets

Show Days

Take the dog for long walks

..... etc etc etc

I have just started to do al lot of things on my own, at first i was extremely anxious as it has been a while and i thought it would be way too awkward, but it isnt, one thing i noticed is the amount of single ppl doing the same thing nod

There are a few things i can not do on my own, i prob dont have the confidence to do so, like going to a restaurant or a bar or a night club..... but they r not important to me, so its cool cool

and so far i have met a few of interesting ppl wink

I do that too, go places by myself. I go to jazz festivals, museums, wine tastings, movies, happy hours, etc. by myself. One of my friends said that she could never do that because it feels pathetic to her. I was like well that might be an internal issue, but there's nothing wrong with going out by yourself and getting out of the house. Sometimes I look around and see couples and stuff and feel a bit left out, but then I think to myself that everything isn't always what it seems and that I'm in the best position right now, to pick and choose who I want to go out with.

good 4u!!! and yes i understand that feeling when u see ppl together holding hands enjoying the experience, but to me thats not what going out is all about..... its got a lot to do with enjoying life ~and sitting in front of a computer 24 / 7 does not give me that!!!

You're very brave MissFee. I did the movies alone once, in NYC - I couldn't wait to get outta there!!! I also went to a Beyonce concert alone once (no one wanted to go with me biggrin ), again in NYC. That actually wasn't so bad. I really enjoyed singing and dancing along side people I had just met biggrin .

My Mom - who will celebrate her 50th anniversary being married to my father this April 2012 - always tells me I don't know how lucky I am to be single lol . She's not your typical "why aren't you married yet" Mother. She keeps telling me to enjoy!! I honestly don't know how to do it though.

Also, she already has two sons-in-law and she had two daughters-in-law, along with grandchildren. So, she doesn't have to sweat me to get that for her.

Well you are very lucky to have a mom who doesn't pressure you like that. I, unfortunately, have a family that is not as open minded as your mom is. In fact, my grandmother told me a couple of weeks ago "well I guess you'll be the last to get married then". I looked up at her in shock, I couldn't believe what she said, and it hurt my feelings a little. I talked to my mom about it and she said don't worry about it, that I would meet someone when the time is right. My mom is similar in thinking to your mom, though she does feel that I will get married and have a family one day soon. As for me, yes I want that, but I'm also cautious. I don't want to just jump into marriage and all of that because it's EXPECTED of me. I go against the grain with my family anyway, so they know that they can't control me. wink

But back to the topic, yeah I went to a Mint Condition concert last summer by myself and had a great time, shaking around and dancing. I have problems with my friends going with me to places too sometimes, but it's all good though, then I don't have to worry about if they are having a good time or not. cool

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
