Right. Will was the star of the show. The center of attention. I've often found that if you are in a situation where you are around a person who is the center of attention and who has an over-inflated ego, you are expected to kiss their ass. If you refuse, you are labeled as "jealous", "difficult" or "hard to get along with" and you are rejected by not only the Egomaniac, but the people who don't mind kissing his/her ass. You are made out to be the bad guy. I've seen it happen too many times over the years. I dealt with a similar situation at work earlier this year. I think it's disgusting. Also having confidence in yourself is often misunderstood as having an over inflated ego or an egomaniac or stuck on yourself. If U don't love yourself U can't expect anyone else to love U either. Will can't help if he is charismatic. That is what got him his own show in the first place. Plus it did last 6 years. To be in the entertainment industry U have to have extreme confidence & be self obsorbed & sometimes self righteous . will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! Good point.

You can have extreme confidence in yourself and still remain humble and modest. You don't constantly have to remind people day in and day out of your greatness. If you truly do possess greatness, people will see it. You don't have to tell them. You don't have to convince them. You don't have to be stroked or fussed over. You don't have to demand that they bow down to you. People who spend so much time convincing others of how wonderful they are usually aren't very confident at all. It took some years for me to learn that. I guess there is a fine-line between being confident and thinking you are a perfect, god-like diety. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! Someone needs to explain this ^^ to Aunt Viv...
My question is, Has Will bad mouthed her like she does him, calling him names and accusing him of things that most likely arent true but made up in her own head? I havent seen one clip or read one article where he cussed her out and called her names... Shes childish and immature IMO.
Its no wonder she was black listed.. She did that to herself! ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

She was never blacklisted. U people need to google her name before jumping to conclusions. She has actually worked way more than the other cast members of the show...With the exception of Will. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! I didnt mean it in the literal sense... Just making a "its no wonder" kind of statement... As "if she were blacklisted its because".. But she really hasnt gotten any "major" roles has she?
I honestly dont know much about her career, nor do I care, but she needs to get over this so she can live her life happily and not be a bitter person... Shes a gorgeous lady and this is making her very ugly.. Its sad... ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

I agree with what you said here. She was a veteran actress, highly acclaimed and what I remembered was Will clowned her often on the set... but when she got with him... in the manner that was hers... which was NOT with humor, he had a hissy and had her canned.
the show was NEVER the same again without her... and I quickly lost interest in the show after her departure.
BTW, what happened with Good Times and Ester Rolle?? "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Esther left for the same reason John left: the show's growing need to have J.J. as its centerpiece. They felt slighted from Norman Lear and also had a problem with their contracts so they both left at the end of the season (I think it was the third season). Esther only came back because ratings for the show were slipping so she stayed until the show ended.

I was just about to say this. I think this is what got her the most. She never really worked again. It just made it worst. "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack

Thing that makes Fresh Prince different was though the show had the same family premise as The Cosby Show and Family Matters (where the Urkel popularity made it difficult for JoMarie who played Harriett), it was built around Will Smith anyways. It was his show. Janet possibly knew that but I guess she never really liked Will anyways.

She did work, but she had a child around the same time she was fired so she was never given big offers. Maybe she was blacklisted to not get big roles but who knows? Only she knows... we can only speculate.

She has had recurring major roles on "One Live To Live" & Bernie Mac Show &Tyler Perry's House of Payne...She has done pretty well....What has Alfonso done besides that wacky LL Cool J show "In the house"

oh so the same thing. I guess that is just part of taking seasoned actors and actresses to do a new show with an unknown young start up and the older veterans look down on diva behavior by the new young star.
Walker was an unknown comedian and was very popular with the young... but didn't really have the acting chops. The same for Will Smith. It has to do with the youthful folly and yess ego.
These actors and actesses put a lot of time, (YEARS) of honing their craft... lots of money etc for workshops and whatnot to get their CRAFT down. They love acting for the sake of acting.
Those two were ambitious to be stars... regardless of whether it was through music or comedy... they wanted to be STARS. Janet, and Esther, and John were ACTORS. Period. They lived and breathed it. If they couldn't be stars by being actors... they just weren't stars. They didn't change mediums. They didn't give rapping a try, or stand up comedy.
So I can understand the veterans having a problem with the whole set up. It is what it is... but I don't think it is sour grapes/

Well, that explains why the two of them left. I loved that show as a kid. Isn't John Amos presently doing a comedy sitcom?

U got it all wrong. John didn't leave on his own he was dismissed & written out of the show. The cast didn't even know that was going to happen. John wanted more money, Also he was constantly complaining about the script and buffoonery of Jimmie Walker's character.
Esther left on her own for the same complaints John had in the fourth season. Because she didn't like her character marrying so quickly after James death. JJ's continued Buffoonery and her new husband being an atheist bothered her. Esther only agreed to come back if she had a say so on the script & they completely write out her atheist husband and never mention him again. Plus recieve a pay raise. They agreed to her demands.
The ratings actually went up when Esther left. But sadly dropped when she returned for the remaining of the sixth season until it was cancelled. will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! How did I get it "all wrong"? OK I admit I was wrong in thinking the ratings drop when she left but my wording on how John & Esther left was all wrong. I can admit that at least.

I don't think it was sour grapes when it came to Good Times because that show was based on a family. When the J.J. thing took off, I can understand why John and Esther, who had been working all of their lives at that point, could feel slighted. My thing with Janet is she knew that the show was build around Will Smith. I'm guessing she felt some type of way with Will treating her like shit and felt she was being disrespected. Even cast mates said they kinda had a problem with her. It was an ugly scenario either way though and sad because I DID love Janet in that role. Daphne Reid was simply not cut out to be Aunt Viv.

ya'll know you can read the interviews John and Esther gave in old Ebony magazines on Google, right? "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I remember Jimmie and Bernadette Stanis mentioning that on Way Black When a couple years ago. I believe Jimmie felt that Esther didn't like him and i think Bernadette asked Esther if she had a problem with Jimmie and she said no not at all. Don't laugh at my funk
