Rate the last movie you watched

Melancholia (2011) - Typical Lars von Trier downer about a pair of sisters facing the end of the world. There is a lot to like about this film in terms of imagery, mood and overall sense of style, but ultimately, it left me a little cold. star star star 1/2 (out of five)

This movie was actually quite good. I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Brett Ratner delivered and more than made up for Rush Hour III. And Eddie's actually funny in this! The man ain't been funny in well over a decade. Great movie and worth seeing...

Finally saw "Super 8" last night. It struck me as comparable to a Lenny Kravitz record... a beautiful and respectful recreation of a classic 80s Spielberg style movie but lacking that certain spark, which in this case means the story ended up being pretty weak. Still, a fun popcorn flick and beautifully shot. And the performances by the young cast were very natural. star star star

Ironclad

2.5/5 - interesting since it's suppose to be historically based but I don't know how accurate it is, it looked historically fitting, even though I can seen the took creative license in some of the scenes, which I wasn't expecting. I thought it was going to have, like they do in a lot of these movies, some girl in skin tight leather doing a lot of martial art moves, that was a relief. But it is violent and brutal, too much so for me. I'm still having a hard time getting over 40 pigs, which was probably the least brutal scene of the dang movie but just the knowledge of that being done in history was unsettling, I just knew they were going to have a giant feast, but oh no, a battle tactic, I felt so bad.

I just watched it yesterday and I thought it was fantastic. The first half is in many ways a retread of "Festen" but I thought those kinds of awkward family dynamics during a festive celebration worked even better in this framework. Overall I'd say it's a totally spellbinding study of inner and outer armageddon with great little touches here and there, wonderful performances and an absolutely pitch-perfect tone. If I have to give it a rating it's five out of five.

evil dead 1 and 2 are the works of bruce campbell and sam raimi. the evil dead movies are cult favorites, faux-grisly spoofs of the horror genre. the follow-up the evil dead series features bruce campbell's character 'Ash' in the movie army of darkness. another of my personal bruce campbell favorites is my name is bruce.

Interesting. Any mutilated women in this one?

"The Unknown" starring Liam Neeson as a guy that awakens from a coma to find his life turned upside down (his wife is claiming not to know him and someone else has his identity).

It was pretty good, overall, but something about the ending left me a little empty. I thought it should have ended differently.

But I would give it 3 stars out of 5.

Warrior (2011) - estranged brothers find themselves face to face in the fight of a lifetime. the acting made this well worth watching. Hardy's great but Edgerton's sensational. 4/5

Love story set in the 1940's-50's against the backdrop of Havanna, Cuba and the Be-bop scene in New York. Very moving and sensual for an animated film.

Two actors go on a road trip to review restaurants for an article, but mostly just chat a lot.

Not much story, but I actually liked this one a lot. It may have went on just a bit too long, but some of the conversations, such as their debate as to how to do a proper Michael Caine impression, were priceless and would hold up under repeated viewings.

4.5/5

Caught most of it on TV, only because of Natalie Wood being on the news recently, but I quickly lost interest in it.

shrug

I know it's from a different era, but I felt there was too much overacting in it.
