I didn't like it before I saw the TV show. In fact I barely remembered watching it. But having seen it a second time I still thought the show had a lot more charm.

A whole lot I can't think of at the moment.

But a lot that were already mentioned

Color Purple

City of Angels

Imitation of Life (both)

Terms of Endearment

Green Mile and a couple of others

Some I didn't see already

Under the Tuscan Sun

Schindler's List

Lord of War (never seeing that one again)

Hotel Rwanda

Funny Valentines

And to confess, I never had any intention of ever getting involved with LotR, until my curiosity had me watch FotR on tv, dammit I cried. sigh twas all she wrote.

Umm, it's not, really. Especially for a sci-fi film made in the last ten years.

The first time I watched Serenity in the theater, I would have burst into tears if my brother and dad were not sitting next to me. That could have been very embarrassing.

lol When Wash died?

NDRU said:

hah! which part, when Barney Miller died?

Not when Book (Ron Harris in Barney Miller lol ) died because I think I was expecting that. When Wash died, that was just a shock. eek It was more afterward when wife Zoe went all kamikaze on the Reavers thinking she had nothing to live for anymore. cry And then at the end during the funeral ceremony for all the characters that died in the movie. bawl I loved the Firefly TV series and had become attached to all the characters so the ending made me weepy. lol

Umm, it's not, really. Especially for a sci-fi film made in the last ten years.

It seems like a lot for a movie without heavy promotion, without superstar fees (crew and cast), and relatively simple effects problems, and from a cancelled show so everyone is just putitng in more than their share just to get it made.

I wonder how much Battlestar Galactica's pilot cost? Same effects company.

Many Hollywood budgets are inflated when reported to increase the perceived value of their product! I personally know about one film that was released, where they report the budget only after all post and marketing costs were in (some just estimated), including those to make the distribution formats.

And high class special effects are being done by kids in their apartments. It's kind of like how graphic design was the arena of professionals with access to printing presses and cameras before photoshop made graphic design authoring available to any housewife (or househusband!).

things are changing as reality vs tradition is sinking in to Hollywood and indie films. Many special effects houses have closed in the last three years, even ones that were doing big movies.

Here's a dose of reality I personally know about:

The indie scifi film "Monsters" was shot, edited, and the special effects were created for $15,000 (15 thousand dollars) outside of the formal system (offices, standard fees, standard crew, etc). But after the promotion, distribution, marketing and post sound design (all done within the traditional system) the cost is reported at $800,000.

The movie was shot, edited, and the effects done (outside the system)... cost $15,000

The movie is then mixed for sound, color corrected, promoted, formatted for distribution (within the system)... the cost is reported $800,000!

Crazy.

Xibalba

The Fountain. (My #1 favourite film of all time)

Vanilla Sky. "I'll see you in another life...when we're both cats...." bawl

Contact.

Stand by Me. River sad

Alpha Dog.

(the 'execution' scene is brutal in its coldness - Anton Yelchin's portrayal is harrowing. Incredible stuff).

Transamerica.

'My Girl'- I remember the first time I saw this, how mad I was that Mackaulay died. I was like, WTF?!?! as I sobbed like a 2 year old who had just lost their favorite toy. Seriously, that was an f-ed up way to end the movie but it was still such a good film.

OMG - the funeral scene:

I can't watch that scene without crying. My sister-in-law and I were talking about this movie one day, and my sister-in-law said that it made her and my other sister-in-law cry too, while they were watching this movie. It is such a tearjerker! :cry2: :cry2:

I wanted to see "Marley and Me", until someone told me that the dog dies at the end of the movie. I could not watch a movie about a dog dying, because it would just be too sad for me to handle.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I remember watching this in the movie cinema. People were literally sobbing all around me. For such a young kid, Ricky Schroeder did a superb acting job!

Another movie that makes me cry is "Beaches". It was so sad when that one friend died towards the end of the movie. Now every time I hear the song, "Wind Beneath My Wings" on the radio, I think of this movie, and it makes me cry all over again.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
