congrats on the weight loss
here a size 12 is a "normal" size... but our sizing is different, when they have weight loss shows here and the Americans say a size, they put the aussie size in brackets, and it is always higher.
the average australian woman is a sz 14....
but average aint fitting me any more
i seriously need to shed some KG's!!! i refuse to go up a size

US sizes
0-14 can be regular sizes 14 is also copnsidered plus size but a plus size 14 is labeled 14w
all plus sized clothing is labeled as "W" (women's)
size twelve can vary in stores depending on makers... some 12 s are considered XL or just L, so my dear... you are no longer a plus size
Congrats on the weight loss!

When in the states I stuck mostly to buying things in size Medium or Large, since I had NO idea what I would be in US sizing. I got a skirt in a 10 US, and funnily enough, at home I have skirts in 10 AUS that I wear. Honestly, sizing is all OVER the place

The "rapid weight loss" has caused me 6 gallbladder attacks thus far
So being fat put me at risk for them and loosing weight helped me HAVE them !

It depends on the store and "style." Most department stores have the junior, misses and women's section. Women's sizes usually start at 14 and are labeled with a "W," so it would be 14W, 16W etc. The misses and junior departments have the same "regular" sizes such as 0, 2, 4 etc. But they fit so different!! Mostly junior sizes are really meant for the "slender" zero curve squarish types of bodies that developing teens have, and some adult women with the "boyish" type of body.
I wear a size 12 junior and an 8 in misses... go figure. Anyway, I found that the best sizes and cuts are found in the misses department. Jeans actually fit women with big hips and smaller waists. They have the most diverse clothes styles of all three departments where you can find an awesome cocktail dress to a trendy pair of jeans or tops. And of course they have sizes from 0-14!
Good luck! Don't ask me why.

I'm trying to listen to her and NOT hide in my clothes !

Congratulations on your hard work paying off!
I'm not sure about plus sizes. But I do know that in TJ Maxx/Marshall's/other discount stores, when I shop for clothes I see 12s and 14s among the 6s and 8s, not in another section.
Don't forget to photowhore your new clothes!

Yeah...it depends what you're talking about. In the modeling/design world, 12 is plus size. Even though the average American woman is a 14.
But in most stores and out of most catalogs, if you're buying a 12, you'll be shopping the "regular" racks. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Well most of us are not runway models...just common girls trying to make our way in a society that stresses SMALL sizes
I'm regular gotta LOVE that much

wow that's great! good for you!
I wear a 18 "regular" but a 16w We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

I love hearing about smart women who go about weight loss goals in partnership with their bodies, treating them well instead of, like, going to war with their thighs or whatever.
That's hot. | |

It's the only way it truely works ~ I love food
I was just eating a bit to much of the wrong foods and not being as active as my body requires ...
I got sick of the "stress" weight I had gained and was holding onto and wanted to release my body of the fat it was hiding behind
I do meditations/ritual/goal & intention setting each morning as well to help with the release ~ the mind has been such an incredible tool ... now that I am no longer numbed out

You're the tits!
Now that you mention it, I think I numb out with food. Last night I couldn't sleep, kept having asthma attacks, aching joints, wired. Sleepytime tea didn't put me to sleep, but ice cream, cheese, crackers and grapes did.

That is because the proportions are completely different. The W in 16W stands for "women's" - while the 18 (no W) is a "misses" size. Missy sizes (as they are known in the industry) tend to be narrower through the torso than a women's size - smaller in the waist, with a slightly smaller and higher bustline. Women's sizes tend to have a lower waist to hip ratio (ie, they're cut somewhat straighter), while at the same time having more "tummy" than a missy size - which has no additional below-waist tummy room.
Basically, missy is a "younger" silhouette than a women's size. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
