Totally. But I see that maybe that is really the case with most US stores. I always found it odd when I would see an American say they were, say a size 8 and they look at least a 12 to me.

I just thought H&M ran large in general, but guess not.

Canadian sizing might be more like Australian then, I wear a 12-14 here and am probably 8-10 US

would this be an OK time to mention that my willy somehow got longer when i came to the States?

everyone's a fruit & nut case

There's a lot about the clothing industry when it comes to sizing and labels that's screwed up or stupid.

There's supposed to be sizing standards, but each brand has its own idea what that means.

"Plus size" starts fairly small IMO. Not only that, but if the average North American woman is considered obese then shouldn't that just be called "Size"? At least one store calls bigger sizes "Above Average" -but those sizes are the average.

There are similar odd problems on the opposite end. Most people, when they envision the word "petite" think of someone quite small. So why are petite sizes only a few inches shorter than regular sizes, but just as big around? Maybe I'm picking nits, but I don't think a heavy, round lady gets to be classed as petite just because she's 5'2'' instead of 5'4''.

HELL NO SIZE 12 IS NOT A PLUS SIZE! If you're talking in United States "Misses" size. I now wear anywhere from an 8-12 depending on the manufacturer. I'm 5' 7" tall and weigh about 140-145lbs. I gained 20lbs since I started back working. I wouldn't consider a size 14 plus either. I mean size 14, depending on your height and bone structure, is not real heavy, but you're inching up there. Anything over 14 and you're getting on the plump side. I once went up to 160lbs and had to buy a few size 14 slacks, but I quickly decided I was not going to buy an entire new wardrobe to accommodate the weight gain, so I went back to size 12 by dropping the extra 15-10 pounds.

I thought the W meant wide?

As insensitive as the garment industry can be to larger women, calling them "wide" would be downright mean, don't you think? lol

I just thought that is what it meant- i don't mean anything by it-just stating

yep and it's very difficult to find anything smaller than a 4 in petite...not to mention that petite clothing usually looks like it's made for little old ladies... :? Congrats Mach on the weight loss! smile
