why are people rude?

neutral

So, I'm getting off the bus. And I'm wearing a dress that slits a bit up the front. It's not indecent, but it may have flashed a bit when I was standing up, no more than 3-4 inches above the knee.

The man sitting across from me says, right to me (though I wasn't looking), "those are some thunder thighs. damn!"

wtf? mad

It never would have even occurred to me to shout out "you're ugly and have no sense of style!". Why the hell do people think it's OK to insult perfect strangers?

"Because I'm fucking retard and I don't know how to communicate with women". Maybe that's the reason.

GuRRRL, if Anxiety came to my restaurant 5 minutes before closing I'd tell his ass to "Get his thunder thigh sized attitude" out of my restaurant post haste!

As far as this other guy is concerned, I would say education, upbringing, and overall lack of maturity---we are talking public transportation afterall. In other words, at the end of the day, you get to be you, and that ignorant ass still has to be him----you win. nod

UGH. Fucking America.

You would NEVER catch a Thai man, no matter what his social status, on a public bus or anywhere in public, saying something like that to a woman.

Of course the ladyboys don't play by those rules when it comes to their affections towards men though. So I guess, rudeness is universal.

I always find rude public comments or off colour jokes blurted out to strangers as a sign of very low social upbringing. It embarrasses me in the sense that I'm embarrassed for the person making the statement and the audience moreso than the person who is being commented on. It's just really ghetto.

Carrie, this sounds tacky as all get out, but I'm thinking maybe it was some sort of odd, sick compliment. Did he look the type to try and insult you? How old was he? Was he alone or performing for a crew of his buddies?

And what I don't get is what could they possibly hope to gain from saying something like that.

Let's say he wanted to compliment you. When has a line like that ever made a woman leap into a guy's arms?
