Pamela Anderson has outfits that allows for that kind of thing!
You just don't know about folks in the midwest and their fashion sense.

Carrie, this sounds tacky as all get out, but I'm thinking maybe it was some sort of odd, sick compliment. Did he look the type to try and insult you? How old was he? Was he alone or performing for a crew of his buddies?

He was probably in his 40's, if I had to guess, in a baseball cap and jeans. He was alone, but he could have been performing for the back of the bus. lol

He didn't look the type to try and insult me, but then, I don't really expect that out of anyone.

That alone is gross.

I hate it when people think they have an instant audience for their comments.

It's like watching one of 2the9s threads here on the org. It's full of FAIL and in the end just disrespectful. Folks like him shouldn't be allowed on public transportation---and if you get my hint, 2the9s should be banned.

I think this sort of thing is ridiculous. But -- and I hate to say it -- I can only imagine some men continue to do this sort of thing as a compliment because they must be met with a positive reception by some women. shrug I personally know women who are fine with being spoken to in absolutely horrible ways. disbelief

Now, why some guys think this sort of thing is universal to all women? I don't know. shrug

...I just want to clarify, too, that I'm not saying women who put up with this stuff are to blame. This stuff, compliment or no, is due overwhelmingly to the idiocy of the male aggressors. I just wonder if women who uncritically engage this kind of mess still retain a certain power, if they want, to re-train some of these poor dogs.

Fenwick

I always find rude public comments or off colour jokes blurted out to strangers as a sign of very low social upbringing. It embarrasses me in the sense that I'm embarrassed for the person making the statement and the audience moreso than the person who is being commented on. It's just really ghetto.[/quote]

/\

Totally agree. I would even take it a step further and say this person could have just as easily been complimenting her with a "hey mama - digging that skirt" kind of thing and it would still be just as embarrasing for the person making the comment.

So, I'm getting off the bus. And I'm wearing a dress that slits a bit up the front. It's not indecent, but it may have flashed a bit when I was standing up, no more than 3-4 inches above the knee.

The man sitting across from me says, right to me (though I wasn't looking), "those are some thunder thighs. damn!"

wtf? mad

It never would have even occurred to me to shout out "you're ugly and have no sense of style!". Why the hell do people think it's OK to insult perfect strangers?

Yeah, just like your mamma's except, I can close mine!

You may be insecure, but at the end of the day you're still generally regarded as being an attractive person. Some people are considered ugly.

Men used to "holla" since I was 13-14, so Imma place the blame solely and completely on the idiocy of men. In fact there is never a reason why any person should speak disrespectfully to another person like that. People need to use their inside voices more!

Good to hear things are looking up. Yes, bring on the weekend! yay!

We're well, thanks. Songkhran (Thai New Year) is coming to a close here. Hopefully the protests in Bangkok will soon too. Things can then return to normal, or as close to it as this city gets. lol
