The book was definitely better than the film, but that's usually the case, nonetheless, it was the first time I experienced an entire audience being completely silent and remaining in their seats after the movie had finished. That story sure has an ending that stays with you.

Movies and shows make me cry all the damn time, though I hide it. Usually at ones not intended to mean much.
It's a little bizarre but the movie Kingpin gets me going, because underneath the hilarious Ernie McCracken stuff there's Ishmael - the Amish guy with unwavering faith who's basically on a mission for God - and succeeds. "We can't lose. It's the centurion's faith that wins him divine favor." I've got tears running down my face now!

Most recently I've cried at The Time Traveller's Wife, The Road, Seven Pounds, The Pursuit of Happyness, The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, Marley and Me (could not even watch the last half hour when I saw it a second time, having lost my dog in the time inbetween viewings), Eight Below, World Trade Centre, 50 First Dates, Crash, Vanilla Sky, The Green Mile, AI, Bicentennial Man, Goodbye Mr Chips. Common themes seem to be are childhood lost, love lost or impossible love, friendship lost, uncontrollable passing of time/circumstance while main character stays same, dogs!. Oh Man! sometimes my wife, friends, family etc think I am a right sap but I just say let it all out. It does get a bit embarrassing in the cinema sometimes (espeically if it happens at the end) and I have to leave all red-eyed. At home watching a DVD I just go for it and sob uncontrollably. yup I bawled in all those, the scene in Pursuit of Happyness where they had to sleep in the subway mens room

I don't want to see the film, the book left such a strong picture in my mind - I could see the end coming and I let out a big HA! as I closed the book, and spent the rest of the day stomping around with my teeth clenched. It was subversively triumphant in it's pay-back. I couldn't cry for the main character, he was a drop in the ocean, but I was SOOOOO ANGRY!

It's the ending mostly for me, when he gets offered the job in the meeting room. I see his eyes welling up and it's over for my tear ducts! To empathise with how much that whole struggle meant to him and to actually get the pay-off at the end... [Edited 3/31/10 3:53am] Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I do. The first time I cried watching a movie was when I watched Rain Man with my parents, as a 5-year-old. I tried to hide my tears, because I was embarrassed, and then they had to explain to me that those were "only" actors and that they probably had a beer together after recording this sad scene
I cried during The Green Mile, Forrest Gump, Jude The Obscure (the last movie I cried to - I even started a thread on it afterwards), Cast Away, The Pursuit Of Happiness, Of Mice And Men. Those are the ones I remember crying to. It's funny how only movies seem to really make me cry lately. Nothing else gets me emotional anymore, somehow.

It's the music. It's like a character on it's own. But the end, where he is put in a beggar's grave. With the entire requiem sequence leading up to that. And I cry from laughter because of SO many scenes in that movie. The best, most beautiful moment is probably where Salieri explains about the majesty of Mozart's music, starting at 1:54 in this clip. Beautiful. Always was one of my favourite movements, ever, but seeing the movie pick THAT movement, it still breaks me. I see, very cool! I can't actually access the link so I'll have to check it out later but I totally agree about the music being a character itself. Early in the movie when Salieri is talking to the priest and describes the impact of reading Mozart's music directly from the page, "the rusty squeezebox being taken over by a clarinet of such delight etc.." It just kills me. Unquestionably a top ten movie all time for me.

I normally don't cry in movies but there are some really surprising movies that make me tear up or cry. Erm.... ..... 1. Forest Gump 2. Dumbo 3. Anna & The King 4. The Wrath of Khan 5. Shindler's List (this I believe is understandable) 6. The Joy Luck Club 7. Ghandi 8. Though I didn't cry I got a bit emotional at the end of "Artificial Intelligence" 9. Paradise Road 10. The Last Emperor Dumbo? OMG, yes! The scene where his mum buts a cap in all the other elephant's asses over teasing Dumbo and goes all Niomi Campbell on the audience and gets locked away in chains... well, that scene that follows were Dumbo finds here tares me the fuck up! If you've ever been bullied for something about yourself, I just find it really hard not to connect with Dumbo. I'm sooooo

The Color Purple
Bambi Orca My Girl Imitation of Life (tears of anger and sadness, especially when Sara Jane meets her mother in the dressing room [anger] and when she runs to the hearse. I was sad, but I wanted to kick her ass, too! ) Lucas Close Encounters of the Third Kind (the last 15-20 minutes) Shawshank Redemption Sounder (when Cecily Tyson sees her husband hobbling up the drive after returning home from prison) The Miracle Worker (the original with Patty Duke) Garbo Speaks ET My Dog Skip Anything with animals when they die.
