Do you all have a car/driver licence?

Who doesn't? and why?

And if you have the licence, do you have a car of your own? And which car?

I didn't have my driver's license until I was 25.

I lived in a city with tons of public transportation and everything within walking distance. I was also a young single mom who couldn't afford a car anyway, so I just didn't get around to getting my license until I was in a position to buy and maintain a vehicle.
It's what you make it.

I have a driver's license but don't currently own a car.

I've had a license since I was 16 and have had a car most of the time since, but I gave it up for about 5 years in my early 20's and then I gave up my last car almost 2 years ago.

I don't have a car anymore as I really don't have need of one. It would be silly for me to drive to work now considering how much parking would cost. I take the bus. I can get around just about anywhere I want to go in the city by public transit. The cost of a car (car payment, insurance, maintenance, gas, etc.) just isn't worth it to me. I'd rather spend my money on other things.

I got my license when I was 16 and have had one ever since. I got rid of my car when I moved to New York. I love not owning a car.

I have a license. Drove/owned a car when I lived in Florida. I loved driving in Florida. I did own a car in NYC for a little while, then got rid of it, cause I really didn't need a car, since I have access to all kinds of transportation. I hated driving throughout areas of NYC. mostly Queens, because people are so damn impatient, they basically ride up on the ass of your car. It's not easy driving in NYC. I never actually drove on the expressway other than the north/south conduits, that I believe turns into the Southern state pkwy, as you're going into parts of the Long Island area. Anyway, I got rid of my car a long time ago. I rarely take the subway, unless absolutely necessary. Most of my family members have cars, so if I really need a ride, I can get one through them or take a cab.

I live within 10-15 minute walking distance from 4 malls, and many stores. Take Express bus straight to Manhattan to work everyday, that also drops me right across the street from the building I live in on my way home. Supermarket across the street;a Costco currently in the process of opening in the summer that is a 12 minute walking distance from home. Naaah, no need for a car, don't need the headaches that sometimes comes with it.

I have a drivers license, and think I will always have one. I can't fathom not at least having the option to drive someplace in a rental if I want or need to.

I've always owned a car (since I was 17) and this will be the first year that I don't actually own one. I did the math on owning a car in the states and it ran to something like $2000+ a year even without payments (more with payments), when you factor in tires, maintenance, checkups, etc. etc.

The issue is that unless you live in NYC or a metropolitan city with really good public transportation, then a car is a necessity in the USA. Couple with the fact that I'm a home owner, my house is in the suburbs, and Tampa's public transportation is ...subpar... a car was just necessary. Plus I owned a kayak, and needed a way of getting my boat to and from the water.

Here in Bangkok, there's little reason to own a car because the transportation system is so good here---you can get ANYWHERE in the city on a bus, subway/train, boat, or any other vehicle imaginable. And it's all pretty cheap.

I can't say that I miss driving at all honestly, and wish urban centers would all have public transportation systems that actually worked. America is way, way, waaaaayyyyy behind the curb on transportation.

You seem like a very disciplined person. I admire that.

I've had a license since I was 17 and bought my first car when I was 22. I can't see myself without a car because I hate taking buses and subways. Something always seems to happen when I ride either...fights break out, hoodlums playing craps on the subway floor, all kinds of riff-raff and rudeness. mad

I didn't get one until I was 10 days away from being 21, so for the next 4 years, I had "UNDER 21" in big red letters on my license, and had to point out to people I was OVER 21.

I've had an Oklahoma, and New York state license.

I don't have a car, but I do drive my roommate's Nissan Cube.

When I was 14, I got my Learners Permit (I could drive as long as there was someone over 18, with a license, in the car with me). At 15, I got a school permit, which meant I could drive "directly" to/from school and extracirricular activities by myself. I got my full drivers license at 16.

I hate driving and sold my car when I moved to Chicago (13 years ago). One of my criteria when applying to grad schools was that it had to be in a city where having a car was not a necessity. I keep my license current because when I visit my family in Iowa there isn't really any other way to get around. Even in NYC I never know -- I might want to rent a car (although I'd do my best not to--the thought of driving in NYC scares me).

I failed my driver's test when I was 16 and then practiced for a year and got it at 17. I don't have a car right now though.

I got my license at 17. I was one point from failure. But up until the test, I had been driving small ass cars like Dodge Neons and Pontiac Grand Ams for practice, which I never got much of. When it came time to test it decided to snow, which isn't all that uncommon for Green Bay in January. I was also stuck driving my mom's Chevy Caprice Classic, which is a dinosaur of a car.

I still remember the guy being impressed with my recovery when the car started to slide during a turn. I did that shit like a pro.

Now I drive an 08 Honda Civic, which replaces the 06 Scion xB I gave the ex, which replaced the 99 Mazda 626LX, which replaced the 93 Chevy Corsica, which replaced the 91 Pontiac Grand Am.

I've had a driver's license since 16, and I think I'd always want one. I don't, however, own a car, and I have no real desire to get one. My wife does have a Honda CRV that we drive when absolutely necessary, but since moving to a bigger city, I've actually enjoyed using public transit -- there's just something "urbane" about it.
