I'm 38 and don't drive! I have never really had a need to. I have a large family, with 4 siblings and we all live quite close to each other, if I have a need to go anywhere of any distance; one of them gives me a lift. I have never even had a lesson.
I do my food shopping online and get it delivered, so no need to drive to the supermarket. "I know that living with u baby, was sometimes hard...but I'm willing 2 give it another try.

My first driving lesson was at the tender age of 12. I won my first drag race (quarter mile) at the age of 14 in a car that was stock. I won by 2 car lengths I learned at 14 how to do a 180. I never mastered a 360. And I never really mastered speed shifting. but was I learning. Guess ....I got my license when I was 15. I wouldn't mind getting a bike license. I talked to a friend of mine about that last year who rides a V-twin. May he RIP. <--not auto related. My car at present is deader than a doornail. Well, the engine starts but there are some problems with the motor mounts and I think U-joint is gone ... it used to be a 4 wheel drive ... now it's just toast. Ohhh I used to have a 4 wheel drive now it's just a dust collector for the drive All day long I used to ride now I'm thumbing just to get by lol. well anyway...it could be a funny tune. if i were in the mood to write. peace. this is the time of the first fast. | |

She was a '68 camaro with locks on the hood (cuz it wasn't street legal) we'd take it out on the street anyway and look for drag races. lol. Then pretend we just didn't we were just two young ladies that didn't really know any better. LOL The car was actually used in races down at the race track. her husband would race it down there sometimes. But my cousin and I liked to take it to the store sometimes *wink* Mercedes are nice. Rolls are very nice. But I just rode ... didn't actually drive either of those. I used to drive an MG for a while when I was about 15 or 16. I loved that car. OMG that little car was SOOOO much fun. I ended up hitting railroad tracks fast enough that I had all four wheels off the ground. Then came a 1980 Z28 incredible lower end power....too young and stupid and destroyed the car and got a dui at 18. Those cars put a desire for real speed in me..something they weren't actually very good with....the Z28 was good in a straight line up to about 90 mph, then it was all done, and forget about trying to take a turn. So next came a 1979 Porsche 924. The "slow" Porsche was absolutely incredible whipping down narrow backroads. It felt glued to the road and allowed me to actualy drive fast thru turns....also it was the first manual transmission I owned. The price of parts was beyond me at the time, and skimping on repairs caused me to loose it in a fire. Next was a 16 valve VW Scirocco. Faster off the line than anything I had owned so far, and extremely good in the turns. Black and the windows had been tinted an illegal dark black. A little too big and high of the ground, but oh to wind out that engine to the high revs..... Then marriage kids mini vans and ford escorts Till about five years ago I bought two Porsche 944s off ebay, each brought up to date on maintenance and sold (or at least that was the plan). But finally I was driving genuinely fast cars. Cars I could cruise at 120 and were dead smooth doing it. During my lunch break at work I used to get in the car and see how fast I could get to 100 and back. What an absolute blast, probably one of the best deals there is in a used sports car right now. One car sold..... ....And one got traded for a Jaguar XJ-S. Not as road hugging as a porsche, and due to the rear end gearing it didn't accelerate even as fast as the Camaro, but just to get in floor it and let the big V12 rev up past 6500, and pull the car like a freight train 80....90....100....110...120...130.....I am rebuilding the engine right now, and then will probably have to let it go due to gas consumption and having too many other projects ( anothe jag, an alfa sedan, three bikes, and an embryonic race car project) [Edited 3/17/10 17:08pm] Now I'm older than movies, Now I'm wiser than dreams, And I know who's there

I merely "tapped" the accelerator and that car lurched forward 25 feet! Plus, I needed a booster seat (and I'm 5'7"). I could barely see over the hood. Neva again! Speed scares me! | |

I did not get my license until I was 18 and out of high school. I currently own a 02 Yukon(203,000 miles), a 89 Toyota PU(204,000 miles), and a 66 Mercury(119,000 miles). The Mercury needs some work and is registered as a Non-op.It was the first car I ever owned, and I have had it for 21 years. It was a gift from my fathers aunt. [Edited 3/20/10 19:59pm] |

That's interesting. You make a good point. I always noticed the wheel well on those cars and how tight it was. And you could hear the tires hitting the well .... which is NOT good. maybe it was good I never did get one of those. I thought they looked awesome ... but I was loyal to my Grand Prix. I get a little emotionally involved with a great car lol. I was sure that my Grand Prix had a soul or had obtained some kind of consciencenous. Mini vans seem cool. I kind of like the idea of a van that feels like a car. I detest ford escorts though. no pick up power to them....for one thing. that's a car that scares me. however, I do understand how it is with kids. I'll check ebay ... and a few other places online. I'm keeping an open mind on what kind of vehicle right now. A fast car would be fun but .... we'll just see. I don't know why one can't have the best of both worlds... exciting and practical ...but we'll just see. Get the car together ...pack the baby's things and get the heck out of the desert.... if I can. Not sure where to go. some place good to raise a family. that's a must. but not too big a town ... with all the heavy traffic ..yet not so cut off from everything either. who knows where that is. I dont. all I know for sure is that this desert is not that place... and that's an under-statement. but first ...got to get the car situation together. guess that's a completely different topic anyway... so let me stay on point here. A Corvette was my dream car when I was 14 dreaming about what kind of car I wanted to get when I was old enough to own my own. I really wanted a white Corvette. Or maybe red. I kept vascillating between the two. I never did get the Vette but .. I did ride in one .... I don't recall driving it... but riding in it was enough for me. They real pretty to look at .. but I dont like sitting on the floor LOL. sheeshh. that was tough. Those bucket seats were just like sitting right on the hard assed floorboard. LOL. Hard on the high heels too while gettin in and out of that thing. sheesh more like crawling in and out of it. LOL. and it was bumby .... didn't like it. not a smooth ride. and your right... trying to see over the hood .. is a challenge. needless to say ... Yes, I got my full licence on January 14 1995 when I was 18, and the car I own is a bit of a banger, a 92 Red Nissan Pulsar hatchback (4 door), I look after it though and runs well (191,000km) on the clock. So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time | |

Altho, there once was a time when I would have agreed with meow a little. I would not have gone so far as to call people who drove "lazy" but as a person who was able to either ride my bike or walk nearly everywhere I needed to go till I was almost 30 I can see where she's coming from. I broke down and got a license when I got a job offer in Illannoy and now that I live in one city and work in another, it's really not an option..I gotta have a car. I've always owned a car (since I was 17) and this will be the first year that I don't actually own one. I did the math on owning a car in the states and it ran to something like $2000+ a year even without payments (more with payments), when you factor in tires, maintenance, checkups, etc. etc. The issue is that unless you live in NYC or a metropolitan city with really good public transportation, then a car is a necessity in the USA. Couple with the fact that I'm a home owner, my house is in the suburbs, and Tampa's public transportation is ...subpar... a car was just necessary. Plus I owned a kayak, and needed a way of getting my boat to and from the water. Here in Bangkok, there's little reason to own a car because the transportation system is so good here---you can get ANYWHERE in the city on a bus, subway/train, boat, or any other vehicle imaginable. And it's all pretty cheap. I can't say that I miss driving at all honestly, and wish urban centers would all have public transportation systems that actually worked. America is way, way, waaaaayyyyy behind the curb on transportation. Its going to be damn hard to pull that one off given how much open land expanse we have. The earth's sixth-largest continent, Europe about 4 million square miles in size, covers an area a little bit bigger than the United States So, Our one country economy cant compete with the Fifty (50) self-governing political entities that exist in Europe. So we are likely to stay wayyyyy behind the curve for a long time to come. Although I imagine we will live to see it or be cockroaches crawling through it for our crimes here on earth! Well look whom I found dipping their toe in the murky waters! :eyeroll: At least offer me a damn cup of coffee! | |

Something always seems to happen when I ride either...fights break out, hoodlums playing craps on the subway floor, all kinds of riff-raff and rudeness. Im with you! Im to old for that crap and I always feel like I need to soak in disinfectant after. I'm not a snob but I am a disease/ germ phob.....xample: The NY subways were just filthy, loud and stunk of garbage and urine! Makes me shudder! Well look whom I found dipping their toe in the murky waters! :eyeroll: At least offer me a damn cup of coffee! | |

Had a license since I was 16. I've gone carless for a year or so here and there. Don't currently own a working one, but probably will again shortly. Getting to my job by transit is pretty inconvenient, even though it's not that far away. Seattle's public transportation isn't terrible by American standards, but it isn't great by any standards.
