lol yes, there were 4 teenagers, very young and I had a clever handy... threw it at them and it caught in the doorway next to a kids head and they ran off. I called the cops, no one saw a damned thing. In the afternoon. rolleyes

Looking back it was funny, but they picked my deadbolt with a metal pic and a pair of shears. smart sons of bitches. I didn't move, I had my neighbors evicted, told my landlord they were selling drugs. :evilol: Their home was raided, no problems since then. wink

Geez...you are lucky. And the kid was lucky you didn't throw straight. wink Or did you mean to miss? hmmm

Naw I was caught off guard and just threw it... glad I missed actually. whew

So, it seems the cops have a good palmprint from the window. I just hope they follow through. But this IS Chicago. rolleyes Probably not their top priority. But we are all paranoid now. I don't even want to leave the house. Since we are thinking it could be someone close (neighbors) then they probably know where I live too. disbelief

Sorry to hear about this. I know how you feel. *Southsider of Chicago over here* I'm just as paranoid about things gettin stolen and well...getting killed as well. Fools these days are just getting crazier and nastier with no regard for anyone else. I really REALLY hope that everything is recovered and the criminal/criminals are brought to extreme justice.
*big BIG hugs* I will be praying for you and your fam.

NEVER LEAVE your dog unattened, those dogs are prized in those communities for their $$$$ making abilities. Or if they are red pitts, because a friendly dog will get stolen.

We never left ours babies alone. sigh damn. people suck sometimes. Must have been a beautiful dog.

I am so sorry to hear that this happened to your daughter. sad I do hope she had home insurance...and they catch the jerks who did this. One thing I truly hate is when others feel it's okay to take from another person.

I did also enjoy the pictures...they were very nice and I am happy your grandson had a nice birthday! The Spiderman cake looked AWESOME!!!

Yeah, all in all it was a good day for the kids. He was happy to be the center of attention with the magician. Good he's a little too young to understand how evil people can be. confused

We had a wonderful day yesterday. A birthday party for my 5yo grandson went just as we’d planned. We had to postpone a day though because of rain here in Chicago. We had a magician, a pool, a slippy-slide, and water-gun fights. We grilled out and everyone was having a great time.

Time for my daughter to go home. Her husband took some of the kids home first and my daughter stayed behind to help clean up. The phone rings. I see my daughter’s face turn pale. While they were over at my house for the party, someone broke into their condo just three blocks away and stole the 52” flat-screen. The Canon photo printer. The fax machine. Her safe with all her important info in it. SS cards, birth certificates. Cash for bills. They took the DVD players and the PS3 with all the games. They took more stuff but I can’t remember what. My daughter was up all night scared to death.

These are brand new condos and the landlord had yet to fix the alarm system that someone had cut before. She’d been complaining for the last month about it.

It seems they broke in through the basement window. And we’re thinking it is someone who had been in the house before. They didn’t tear it up, but seemed to know exactly what they were looking for. She has a 24” flat-screen on the bedroom wall but it is bolted, so they didn’t bother with that one.

The cops came and fingerprinted, so we will see what happens. Anyway, we have both decided we have had enough of this city. I’ve wanted to go back to Wisconsin. And she is going to break her lease and move to the suburbs. She called a lawyer today and it seems she can break her lease because the landlord did not fix the alarm system in a timely manner. Both she and the landlord had to go to the police station today. I just hope they find the bastards that did this. My daughter works hard and then this shit happens. I’m just glad they weren’t home, but it seems like the idiots did this in the daytime. And all of her nosy neighbors who are always out in front or in the back didn’t see a thing. rolleyes Right...

City life bored2 ...give me a farm, no neighbors for miles...and country meadows any day. rose

Beautiful pics and family!! So sorry to hear what happened. Thank goodness no one was home when it happened. It's hard to believe they had that much time to steal that stuff and no one saw them. I don't blame you for wanting to move. It's hard living in a big city. No one seems to care about others' personal property. My brother refuses to come back to NYC to live as well as my Mother. I hope your family stays safe, and don't blame your daughter for wanting to leave there. ((hugs))

That's what we're having a hard time believing too. Makes no sense...and I don't blame my daughter for wanting to leave Chicago. I want to go with her! I've been here 15 years and she's been here about 10. I think this is the last straw. My son is down in Florida on the gulf and wants to move there.

The exact same thing happened to me a month ago. My alarm system wasn't working either. I too, broke the hell outta my lease. The house wasn't destroyed. They just took what they wanted including my brand new flat screen. I am still wondering how someone gets away with a washer and dryer in broad daylight.

Anyways,

I am so sorry about what happened. I am glad no one was hurt.

I am so sorry. disbelief A washer & dryer??? eek You would think people would come forward and act like they care. My daughter lives on a busy street and that flat-screen was huge. How did no one see people carrying it out in the daytime? shrug

But on a happy note....balloons present
