hello everyone,

i don't post very often here, but i just wanted to take this time to thank you for all the personal notes we have received wishing us well, and for all the kind posts on this thread supporting our family during this difficult time. it's nice to know there are some great people still out there in this world.

thanks a bunch, everton (kim's husband) biggrin

You're sooooo welcome. I'm sorry you're having to deal with racism and that you guys don't even feel safe in your own home. That's wrong. I hope you can find a place that you feel comfortable in and that you feel free to be who you are and live your lives. Take care of that little boy!

Neither your government nor any of the North American ones have done much of anything worthwhile to rectify the problems. Offering up an apology with no follow-up action, and throwing money at something without proper delegation of funds or resources is not fixing a problem. And the non-Aboriginal taxpayers damn well better shell out for it. You may not be directly responsible for the crimes of the past and present, but you're still living on land that was paid for in blood.

I'm leaving this where it is, because it really is off topic. And besides, I'm trying not to argue with people who've already decided their minds, facts be damned. Good evening. wave

Thank you for sharing your situation. I really do hope you get out of there. You cannot fight an army alone, and honestly, I am sorry to hear that it took you 3 years to realize that. I am glad that you sought legal counsel. It is VERY important that you report stuff when it happens because it gives the ACLU a leg to stand on when they come against the town.

Those sheet wearing redneck toothless retards are dangerous. Places like that need sit ins, marches and shit, and I dont care how "tight" the town is. A statement needs to be made that we can invade their little hillbilly spots if we choose to. Corrupt police need to be investigated by the Feds...a lone person cant do much but end up hurt and possibly killed.

There were before and continue to be many places that persons with brown skin may end up lynched, unjustly imprisoned or even kidnapped and enslaved. Who gives a hoot what the year is. People keep saying its "2009" like that matters.

The years advancing do not automatically bring sense to the foolish. Sometimes it pisses me off that people act surprised that racism exists--some of the very people who have posted on this board have claimed otherwise on other boards saying shit like "we" (persons of color) need to get over "it" as if the racism isn't still glaring and a threat. Persons of color are not free in America, as you can see they still cannot move and live whereever the hell they please. Persons of color must live near one another for better safety.

And the government in this country hasn't done shit for the native persons of this land except kill 20 million natives, kill their food supply and then give the remaining 250K who survived a bit of land that cannot sustain them. We wont get into how America hasn't done shit to rectify the damage done to the Africans and their decendents brought to America by force. (not that it would undo what has been done.)

Nobody with brown skin is safe in this country...not even our President. I just hope you guys are praying for our Prez cuz if something happens, the civil war will errupt once again. All hell will break loose.

Come to Canada. Although racism is an issue, you would experience much less or not at all at an urban centre like Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver.

you're so right! everything you said sounds 100% like the town we live in. we live in sutter creek, it's about 42 miles away from stockton into the foothills, very close to jackson area.

You need to have an invasion and that way we can flood every establishment in the town with insanity so that way when we leave you'll look totally normal to them lol

Dammit Supa.. you say the best things! and it is a good idea too. I would come out for it.

And you'll love the way they treat the indigenous inhabitants of the continent.

eek

The past has been terrible, but not only for the Aboriginals, mostly for the Europeans that migrated by ship to this forsaken land and were rejected by the whites. I was a victim of racism throughout high school, and that was the 90's. It will never stop because racism breeds racism.

As for the Aboriginals, they receive a pension from birth, they have been given their holy land back to them, and the country has apologised to them for cruelty suffered in the past numerous times. It's enough when one minority of Australians are given rights and privileges that are not available to others.

And still the statistics remain as follows:

Average unemployment is 35%

60% earn less than $12,000 a year

60% leave school before year 10 of high school

25% of those between 15-24 years-old have been arrested at least once in the past five years

Between 1994-1997, an increase of 20% in the number of young Aborigines in detention.

it starts from familial foundation and upbringing. throwing money at it is like putting a band aid on a severed toe. There's more to the picture than meets the eye.

not saying it's anyone's responsibility, but look at the whole picture. We could say the same about native Americans. But they got shittier treatment and no land back.

If you're getting at what I think you are, then I'll just have to say as politely as possible that you don't have any idea what you're talking about. What I'd prefer to say in response to your post would probably be deleted, so I'll refrain.

The damage wrought by years of racist institutions, policy, and culture does not just disappear overnight with an apology. All those numbers you mentioned are symptomatic of a people badly damaged, not one that is priviledge or being given "special rights". Only an ignorant fool would think otherwise.

oops, edit!

Depends who you ask, honestly. Having lived in the prairies I could tell you a few stories...It's not horrible, but racially questionable behaviour does strike me as a little more common out there than in the bigger urban centres.

But even so, as far as issues of race go I'd pick anywhere up here over the U.S. I've never been able to go anywhere in that country without picking up a weird racial vibe. hmm
