yep! i wrote a civil rights org. in sacramento about what's been happening to us, and this is their response to my letter:

"dear mrs. lira,

we here at the american civil rights institute have been aware of several cases of racism and injustice in not only your city, but your county. from past experience i would recommend that you first move to a city several miles away from amador county. then we will go from there, it is not safe at this point for you to continue to live where you are, and it's not safe to file a complaint until you are moved safely from the area. are you able to move at this time? do you have the finances to move, i would as soon as you are able. if not, maybe you can find someone to borrow from for the move. please keep me informed, and we will do our best to help you once you move. i would help you now, but where you live is not a safe area. but be sure i have kept your e-mail, and if something else occurs before you move, please let me know! and i can further assist you.

stay safe,
sincerely,
dee
american civil rights institute"

Wow that's hectic! Hope it all pans out for U in positive fashion.

You should contact TV/radio stations, and newspapers. Why not send a letter to Oprah? I'm being serious. Put a spotlight on those redneck fuckers.

That is an encouraging letter! Do you know where you are going to move? Can you get out of your apartment lease?

Good luck and most importantly stay SAFE.

our apt. lease isn't up here until oct. of this year, so this is another issue we will be dealing with. i'm hoping the apt. manager won't be a butt and let us out of it, if not, this will be another problem to deal with.

thanks for all your kind messages! hug

If you're getting at what I think you are, then I'll just have to say as politely as possible that you don't have any idea what you're talking about. What I'd prefer to say in response to your post would probably be deleted, so I'll refrain.

The damage wrought by years of racist institutions, policy, and culture does not just disappear overnight with an apology. All those numbers you mentioned are symptomatic of a people badly damaged, not one that is priviledge or being given "special rights". Only an ignorant fool would think otherwise.

U obviously didn't read the post correctly, just stating the facts, so U have no idea what ur talking about!

NO, I'm quite sure I do. The worldwide story on Indigenous peoples and Imperialism has unfortunately been the same no matter where you go. Speaking as a North American Aboriginal person, I know all too well how true this is. So you can just stfu

LOL well young lady I typed the post, and I know U have misread it completely so I'm not going to pursue this any longer, especially when U resort to swearing at a complete stranger. I understand where ur partiality comes from along with ur sensitivity to the subject. The past is the past, it cannot be changed, no matter how much U wish for it. The government has done much to somehow rectify the mess made generations ago, and us taxpayers happily fund the indigenous ppl, without having any involvement with the misfortunes of the past.

Y'know what. I think we're gonna have to send you two back to your corners. Shake hands and move on because at the moment this track is heading to a lot of arguing that we can all, quite frankly do without. Alternatively, if you both feel that you want to continue, might I suggest that you take it over to P&R.

Thank you.

Kim - I'm so sorry to hear that you're going through this. Some people are just out and out fuckwits!

In all seriousness your family's safety is paramount so I agree that moving is probably the best course of action. Besides which I shudder to think what your little boy is going to pick up at school from the children of these racists. You and your husband obviously want him brought up in a loving, diverse environment that teaches him tolerance and acceptance, not hate and racism.

Good luck with your decision to move, let us know how you get on hug

rolleyes

Neither your government nor any of the North American ones have done much of anything worthwhile to rectify the problems. Offering up an apology with no follow-up action, and throwing money at something without proper delegation of funds or resources is not fixing a problem. And the non-Aboriginal taxpayers damn well better shell out for it. You may not be directly responsible for the crimes of the past and present, but you're still living on land that was paid for in blood.

I'm leaving this where it is, because it really is off topic. And besides, I'm trying not to argue with people who've already decided their minds, facts be damned. Good evening. wave

Racism is so ugly and I am so sorry that your family are experiencing it. You have to do what is right for you, to keep your family together and happy. Sometimes it is better to walk away, turn the other cheek. These ignorant racised are not worth the effort and not worth causing you unhappiness.

I hope you find somewhere soon and are able to live in a more welcoming environment.

Good luck and keep us posted...

we are looking into several different locations, it takes alot of time looking for a place, but we have some good options so far, this thurs. (my husband's next day off) we have appts. all day to view homes and apts. all of the places are several miles from here, thank God my husband's job is not in our local city, so that won't be an issue. but we still have to find a place that's not too far from the city his job is at, otherwise he would have to put in for a transfer, and those don't always get approved quickly. but i feel positive that we will find something....i have e-mailed several apts. and set appts. up, so i'm excited!

Well, the closer you get to Sacramento, the more diverse it is. Although, you'd have to live in the city or the suburbs. Orangevale is nice.

also looking over in roseville near the galleria mall, we used to live in elk grove before we moved where we're at now, so we might look over there too?

housing has went down in price alot up here, most of the apts. now are anywhere between $100-$400 less per month than they were a year ago.

are you living in southern cali. now?

Roseville is good, but don't go into Rocklin. The housing in both Roseville and Elk Grove is relatively new, so you'd get a pretty nice deal in those towns. I grew up in the Bay Area, and my parents moved to the foothills above Auburn in 1988 when I graduated from high school. I tried living up there a few times, but I got bored and moved back to the Bay.

yeah, we're staying out of rocklin wink , i think roseville and elk grove might be good choices...we'll see what happens, and i'll keep everyone posted.

the bay area is really exspensive isn't it? but i do know there are ALOT of brazilians over there! sometimes we go to a brazilian church by the stoneridge mall (i think it's called?).
