I know...it's so very sad. The autopsy is tomorrow. Police say there is no obvious evidence to indicate suicide... He was so young, so talented and successful and on the rise - you never know what's going on in people's lives, even when it appears they have it all. VOTE....EARLY

you don't know that. and yes you can especially if the sleeping pills are taken with other things or other pills.

I have seen effects of Ambien on people and its scary its also addictive, it doesnt really help you sleep, it actually just "numbs" you but i think we all remember Patrick Kennedy being on Ambien and driving his car at 3am going to a meeting in washington thinking he had to place a vote. Okay...is Ambien that sleeping aid that is advertised with the pretty green luna moth flying around? And everyone looks so beautiful, clean, and peaceful? I believe that in the USA its only by prescription, i think, but you can obtain Ambien in other countries by just buying it, i could be wrong. Another thing very important to remember regardless of what the cause was, is that many times, someone who is battling depression, sleeping issues, will go to a doctor and they will get things prescribed to them for those issues, and yes if taken in combination they can kill you, and you dont have to overdose to do it, Anna Nicole Smith didnt OD she took what was prescribed to her, she just had too many things prescribed to her, she never took more than what was told. Father Kim Ledger said that the death of his 28-year-old "dearly loved son" had been "tragic" and "accidental".
Speaking in the actor's home town of Perth, in Western Australia, Mr Ledger said that his son had been a "down to earth, generous, kind hearted, life-loving, unselfish individual". "Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life that few had the pleasure of truly knowing him." New York police said they did not suspect foul play and that his body had been discovered with prescription pills nearby. "We are investigating the possibility of an overdose," police spokesman Paul Browne told Reuters news agency. "There were pills within the vicinity of the bed." He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss----Mel Gibson Obituary: Heath Ledger His family said Heath was "generous" and "life-loving" The medical examiner's office said an autopsy would be carried out on Wednesday. Hollywood mourning Hollywood's hierarchy were quick to offer their tributes and mourn Ledger's death. In 2001, Mr Gibson had cast Ledger to play his son in the American war of independence epic, The Patriot. "What a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to his family," said fellow Australian actress Nicole Kidman. American actor John Travolta, who was in Australia at the time of Ledger's death, said the young actor had been one of his favourite performers. "His abilities are rare...it's a tremendous loss," said Mr Travolta. Brokeback Mountain director Ang Lee said Ledger's performance had been a "miracle" of acting, echoing a young Marlon Brando. I can't get over this, its so surreal.
I'd heard plenty of drugs and depression rumours after his break up with Michelle but its STILL such a shock. He had so much potential to be an AMAZING actor not that he already wasn't because to me he was but damn....he had the world at his feet. And even more than that...his baby girl. He adored her and I don't believe it was suicide for that exact reason, she was his everything. I got his autograph in 2006. I remember his height and his silence.

This thread has grown so long, I'm sure my response will be lost in the crowd. But I am deeply moved by the passing of this guy. He stole my heart in "Brokeback Mountain" and I feel like I'll be haunted by his passing for a long time to come. I wish I could thank him for the role he played in that movie. Such a young cat too! Rest peacefully brother - I'll meet you on the flip side.

Whatever the result, this is really tragic. However, before we speculate about any suicide, drug problems, etc., let's find out what the autopsy says. For all we know he may have had an undiagnosed congenital condition which may have caused him to have a massive heart attack or pulmonary embolism, and it could have been just a freak condition. As for those religious wacko assholes who are saying that they are going to picket his funeral, they can go to hell. These are the same people who were picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers fighting in Iraq for some inexplicable reason about homosexuality, as though it has anything to do with the war. I'd like to see them go to Australia to picket his funeral, because I have a feeling that the Aussies would beat the living crap out of them.
