I think I'm going to quit smoking again...

I decided on a whim today. I've had only 1 cigarette all day today and I'm out and I haven't gone to get any more.

I'm currently sucking on a nicotine lozenge... I've had 2 boxes in the back of my cupboard since last time I "quit".

I wonder if it will stick this time...

lol

I'm right behind you...the cupboard is running out of smokes quickly...

So...um...how are those lozenges working? I tried a HALF a piece of nicotine gum once and got the most horrible headache and unpleasant "bad nic trip" that lasted for 45 minutes...

You probably chewed the gum wrong. lol Yes, it's possible.

I usually don't finish the lozenges. Honestly, the main thing you want to do is stick it between your cheek and gums and let it be. If it releases too fast that's when you get sick and such. After I feel calmed, or when I get sick of it being in my mouth I spit them out.

They help take the edge off, that's for sure. But it's still really, really, really hard. I definitely NEED them for work and social situations, as I can turn into a right bitch and that's not like me at all.

I made it about 2 1/2 months last time, I think I only used the lozenges for the first 4 weeks or so....

We'll see how I do this time.

I'm thinking if I can get past 2 weeks, I'll be good. hmm

You don't want to chew it like regular gum! You chew just enough to feel the "tingle" and then you park it, just like you would the lozenge, between your cheek and gums. Once it stops feeling tingly, you can chew it a bit more again and do the same. You can't just chew and chew or you'll totally get sick.

After 2 1/2 months I thought I could cheat and just be OK. It started with maybe 1 cigarette a day and then I just decided I was smoking again. sad

I got really depressed over it, actually. I left a party crying, I was so upset I "couldn't" smoke. Well, more that I couldn't enjoy myself without smoking. And I had recently lost 40 pounds and when I realized I'd gained about 15 pounds back I freaked and that was it. I went back to smoking.

Whoooooaaaaa...maybe I should have read the destructions on the box! No wonder I had a psychotic episode! redface

Yeah, cigarettes are funny that way. No matter how long it's been, just one cigarette and you're fucked--you will be smoking all the time in short order. It's all or nothing.

I think the trick is to recognize that your body wants the pleasure and must NEVER have it. Never, never, never! The flesh hates that word, "never," because the flesh has no concept of time. It's final. Replacing the pleasure with something else is a trick to keep the beast placated while it throws its temper tantrums...hopefully not food, since the weight gain sort of comes with the territory, the slowing of the metabolism and all.

Man...I wish I never started...

Fauxie

I quit a while back and lasted several months but started again just recently. Last night I got completely drunk and this morning I realised I'd managed to smoke nearly 3 packs yesterday. disbelief I'm about to join you in quitting, but I'll just finish the last two in the packet first. lol

disbelief

It's been silly this last year. I quit before I went to the UK and didn't smoke at all for the 6 weeks I was there. Came back to Thailand and started again the minute we left the airport. The last few times though I've quit and not smoked at all for months and done really well, but started again and each time smoked more than ever. I've probably smoked just over half of the time this last 12 months, but when I have been smoking I've been smoking a LOT. eek

I need to stop right now so that I won't be feeling shit while my family are over. They despise me smoking, which I understand, and actually right now don't know I've smoked at all lately (they thought I gave up almost straight after I started 3 years ago).

woot!

I hope so.

I'm not even sure I'm ready. lol It just seemed like a good time to do it, since I was out of cigarettes. And I don't have a smoking porch anymore and I don't want to smoke in my new apartment now that I can't have all the windows open since it's cold out.

There are phone #'s from the American Cancer Society, and several other associations,(heart and lung) that give advice on how to quit.

Here's a website that covers current treatment:I found it under "America Heart Association, smoking cessation"
