Well, I caved and bought a pack on my way to work this morning.

BUT - Instead of opening it, I popped another lozenge. And I was stuck in yucky traffic for 25 minutes more than usual due to a light being out.

So the pack is in my purse, but it's still unopened.

Good for you thumbs up!

I think for some quiting cold turkey works best and for others they have to come down off of them gradually.
We all have bad habits that we wish we could stop but smoking is hard because it is addictive.
My mom smoked from age 14 til 39-40ish. She was a heavy smoker, the whole time during pregnancy and had to smoke even in the bath tub. She did it cold turkey..it took her a few tries but it took a heath scare to finally sink in that she HAD to stop because it was killing her.
Everyone is different and has to come to terms with quiting for different reasons but everyone I know who has stopped has said that you have to get to the point where you really want to stop to actually succeed.

Edit the title: I quit smoking.

Don't think of it. Just do it.

Good luck Carrie.

exactly. i was going to say all this ambiguity lends itself directly to you possibly quitting only.

know that you want to quit. know that you can do it. be strong and just stop. dont let the habit control you and your daily life. every time you have a cigarette that habit wins. you are stronger than any habit that you chose to get involved in.

wishy washy possibilities dont work in the arena of quitting smoking.

you can do this sister!! nod

Don't just throw that pack away. Drop it on the ground. Stomp on it. Obliterate it. Go to the restroom on it. Show those cancer sticks (and the horrible, HORRIBLE people who make and sell them) EXACTLY what you think of them.

Carrie I *really* want to quit now. I am down to only smoking when I'm out at night (and therefore drinking/drunk), and I regret it all week because I cough so hard. It's got to the point where I don't even want to pick one up, I just do it anyway. I only started because I was stressed, and now I'm never stressed enough to want one!

A coworker said she thinks I have bronchitis. I've had this deep, disgusting cough for a week now. Giving up will help it heal. I'm quite disgusted with it most of the time. But I can't deny that I still enjoy it as well.
I do plan to quit this winter, I think I just need to gear myself up for it more.
I think I want to try the chantix. Soon...

Keep trying! It's not that hard.

For me, the hard thing was that it was so easy.

I didn't even understand why I wanted to smoke so badly. I just did. It was obviously more psychological for me than physical. Once I accepted that it was simply a decision and that all I had to do was not smoke, it became a little easier.

But I've probably already told you that. smile

I used to smoke. I started wheh my parents announced they were splitting up. It just felt right for some reason.

I went thru a pack of 10 in a few days or so, and then just had one one day and felt so fucking ill after it, like felt sick, had a headache, felt dizzy, it was weird. So I stopped myself there. I dont really even get the urge to start again. My parents both smoke as well as the girl Im "seeing" and it doesnt annoy me, i just dislike kissing her and tasting smoke!

Well good luck nod After smoking for about a year, I have realised that it is just not something my body can handle. I used to have asthma, and have always had a bit of a breathing problem, and after I smoked for about 6 months I have had a cough ever since. It's just not going to shift for longer than a week unless I stop!

Good luck, but don't beat yourself up about it too much just now hug

Erm.

It would break my heart to know that you're continuing to support Phillip Morris, a company that is currently trying to recruit 12 year old smokers in countries where it is still legal to smoke below the age of 18? confuse

i can never tell if you are being serious or sarcastic, but in case you are being serious....

people are too consumed with thier own habits to think or care about who they are supporting financially. people feel they work hard to earn the money they make and feel justified in spending it however they choose. regardless of moral.

unfortunately.

OMG, Shawna! lol

I'm being serious. Though I don't think Carrie's one to disregard such delima's lightly. She's very much concerned for others.

Hell, she's trying to cut down on meat consumption and go vegetarian. Pretty soon, she's going to give SugarGirl away because she eats meat, I just know it.

But as far as Phillip Morris is concerned, they're praying on people, and the only reason it's not more aggressive here in the States, is because of legislation. No such legislation exist in some other countries and they are feeding their crap to the masses, knowing that the younger you start, the less likely you will quit. And there's no need to worry about those countries starting their own legislation against smokers, if the majority of them smoke and are addicted--it would be harder than prohibitions on alchohol in the States--ain't gonna happen.

I'm really trying to be more selective about my choices in products now--I'm not perfect as I enjoy a cheap gap shirt which I KNOW someone is working their ass off to make and get underpayed, but I am trying little by little. Does it help that I'm only buying fairganic coffee when available? I'd like to think so. ky
