I admit that not only do I buy generic bag cereal, but I think I like it better.

This thread is to say that not only do I buy the generic bag cereal, but I think I like the taste better.

First of all let me say that the price of cereal has gotten out of hand. They charge $4 or $5 a box for the sugar cereals that I love. So one day I see the bag cereals that they keep real low and out of the way and remember that my mom used to purchase these for us as we were growing up. Back then I was very worried about brand names and hated the fact that we had generic cereals in the house. But these days when possible I try to be thirfty and I'm way over worrying about brand names.

Anyway...I see that a bag of cereal is only $1.87 so I buy a bag of Coco Roos (which is the generic version of Coco Puffs) and bring it home. I decided to give it an immediate taste test and poured myself a bowl and I have to tell you that it was great. There was no real taste difference and if anything the generic may have tasted better (this may have been the $2.00 I saved by purchasing them thinking, but hey...big grin)

So in the last couple of months I have tried almost all the bag cereals and found that most of them taste great. I have also found that the bags are easier to fit into my garbage can then those bulky boxes, which means less trips to the dumpster big grin

With as much cereal as I eat I will probably save hundreds of dollars a year with my switch to bag cereals.

Also, I know this thread is super controversial, but please try not to flame each other as you discuss bag versus box cereal lol

Do you mean the generic Corn pops? If so I don't know what the generic name is.

I also really like the generic Fruit Loops.

All of the generic cereals rock...including the store brands. I just got some store-brand cereal 2 boxes for $3! smile

I also shop for generic brands; cereal isn't the only department where the generic brand is equally as good as the name brands

Hell yes. Those are da bomb.

I really like to use the generic rice krispies for rice krispie treats. If you buy the $4 brand name box, that is one expensive gooey treat! If you buy the bag, they are cheap gooey goodness.

I love being thrifty. I see it as a challenge. I have read all of the Tightwad Gazette books. smile

The only cereal I eat is Fruity Pebbles, and I buy maybe a box or two a year. I just get a weird craving and off I go to the gorcery store.

Last time I wanted some they were out at the grocery store, but they had the generic bag variety, so I decided to give it a try. I didn't like them. There were lots and lots of crumbs, like they just got too smashed up and they went soggy faster than the real thing (prolly cause of all the crumbs) and I can't STAND soggy cereal. sad So I only ate a bowl or two and the rest went in the garbage.

I do like the fact that the bags don't take up as much room in the garbage, though. I hate taking out the garbage.
