Reality (TV) Bites In the UK, the nation is currently "gripped" by the shenanigans on a TV show called "I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of here!" in which 8 minor celebrities have been placed in a jungle camp after having some introductory survival training. The public get to see them interact, argue, panic, laugh etc and then vote for one of them to undertake a task (e.g. eating lots of jungle food, grubs, maggots, beetles and the like) and then eventually voting them off the show Big Brother style.
Most of the celebrities you will not have heard of in the US but I will list them anyway. Rhona Cameron - Scottish stand-up comedienne, openly a lesbian and "controversial" Tara Palmer-Tomkinson - English socialite heiress, famous for being famous, went through re-hab etc, always in the gossip columns, society weddings, OK and Hello magazine etc. Nell McAndrew - young glamour model, usually appears wearing next to nothing in lads mags FHM, Maxim, GQ etc. Christine Hamilton - Wife of ex-Tory politician Neil Hamilton in turn famous for cash for questions scandal. Tony Blackburn - One of the original BBC Radio 1 DJs when it was launched in the 1960s. Hams up his naff image, may or may not wear a wig Darren Day - TV Presenter, Actor, Singer, Self-confessed Love-rat, a bit like a younger Cliff Richard (looks wise). Nigel Benn - Some of you may have heard of him if into boxing, used to have the ring nickname of "The Dark Destroyer", now retired from boxing but you wouldn;t want to argue with him! Uri Geller - you have probably all heard of this psychic and spoon-bender extraordinaire. Well there you go, what a waste of time. I honestly have not watched a show yet but you cannot escape it over here. Uri Geller was the first to be voted out of the jungle camp last night. They all seem to argue a fair bit, being placed under pressure in extreme conditions and all. What the point is I don't know. Entertainment for the masses obviously but where will it all end. I have visions of Stephen King's The Long Walk or The Running Man running through my head. Will we reach reality shows like this one day? Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I cannot believe Geller has been voted off. Surely he either foresaw this happening several years back, or he could have concentrated his powers and telepathecially persuaded everyone to vote for someone other than himself? ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I'm the smart one here
I've not seen a single episode of American Idol, Survivor, Big Brother... I did watch 10 minutes of Anna Nicole and realized she's one of the most pathetic humans "alive", if you can call that any way to live However I did watch a few episodes of 'Basic Training' on the History Channel yesterday and found it extremely interesting. I have a feeling they bust those kids' asses a little harder off-camera

I can't stand those damn shows. There's not enough money in the world for me to do some of the crap they have to lose all dignity for. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
