The Postal Service: New Wave Shoegaze with a Beat This obscure Sub>Pop band is way cool. I didn't think I'd like them because I thought they were shoegazer whiners, but the music is pretty cool and the lyrics are great.
Think, umm, singer from New Order playing with Duran2 or Thomas Dolby kicking the breakbeats. I REALLY like these guys. The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I think they're kinda like Magnetic Fields without the dry humor. I know a lotta people who are into them, so they've gotta be doing something right...

Yeah, I heard them. They're aiight, but they really shouldn't be classified as New Wave. They're nowhere near as cool as our Alternative heroes from the 70's & 80's. They couldn't touch New Order with a 50 ft. pole. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Cool, I just checked them out on MTV.com. Neato. I guess they got their name from collaborating via the postal service. They would send cds back and forth from Seattle to Los Angeles. What, they didn't have broadband?!?!?!
Anywho, it's nice to see a band getting attention that isn't totally guitar driven and kinda foofy. Maybe there's hope for me yet.

They have only one cd out, but I still think the best release yet is the Such Great Heights EP. The song itself is a pop masterpiece, and there is also a non album track that is equally good. There is a cover of their songs by The Shins, and an acoustical version of Such Great Heights by Iron and Wine that is really neat to have.
That is the cd that got me hooked, then try out their debut cd, which is brilliant. Very fun stuff here.
