"Legend" isn't overrated, he's just... there.

He's talented but he lacks that spark and star quality to make him more than that. Think a far less gifted Stevie Wonder with vision but far less panache, charisma, range and appeal. John doesn't have much going for him persona-wise nor does he make up for that in his music.

...well, that is at least up till a few years ago when he turned into a pandering, sanctimonious nuisance alongside his wife.

i can dig the sentiment about him not having that star aurra or charisma...but in the big picture, is that really a bad thing?...and because he does lack that magnetism, should that make him a target of undeserved scorn and ridicule about his obvious talent?...there's allegedly grown people who judge this man's art based on who he's makin babies with...and by the way, she's cute as hell to me...but i unfortantely am drawn to vain, shit talking, sometimes obnoxious women ...i was raised by one, and have sons with one.

Exactly, Stevie rules! John could never make an Innervisions or Songs In The Key of Life

I think there's a distinction between not liking his music and saying he has no talent. I can clearly tell that John Legend is talented. I don't think he's a virtuoso, but he clearly has musical talent and deserves to have a career. It's just that I don't care for his music. There are hundreds of contemporary artists I'd rather listen to.

but nobody is comparing him to Stevie Wonder...of course John Legend couldnt make a Songs In The Key Of Life...so what, Stevie Wonder could never make a Parade... and Prince could never make a All-N-All...what does that even mean? theyre all diiferent...theyre not supposed to be able to, or try to do what the next man is doing...who exactly is "overrating" him?...he only sold 26000 week one so that aint it...most of the blog and video comments are filled with disrespect...so who (besides me) are all these people rating him so high that he is allegedly "overrated"?...he's not overrated...he's overhated.

David Bowie, was an artist capable of creating statement albums and hit singles. He had a distinctive voice that could carry hits and was surprisingly good on a range of instruments despite not being primarily known as an instrumentalist. He was able to craft personas, pioneer striking videos and was a charming performer capable of inspiring on stage and also a capable actor. He was well regarded across the world and worked with many well regarded artists. He was generous and was able to contribute to several people's careers, including but not exclusive too aiding Iggy Pop and Lou Reed with career defining songs and albums, utilising Luther Vandross and Stevie Ray Vaughn at key points in their career.

John Legend is as dull as dishwater, a cipher the music equivalent of a film body double who speciously resembles a star or an artist but has none of the looks or passion or style of an actual performer. He fails in spite of his solid voice, competent musicianship and knowledge. He is an extra an understudy of an understudy, so unremarkable as to leave no impression. I can't speak for his politics (I am unaware of them and would not judge him on them) but "Used to love u" aside I cannot think of less indistinct act more lacking in charisma, substance. He is a dull faded ghost of a performer, destined to fade into the netherworld shadows of obscurity.

A talented man who sacrified it all at the alter of celebrity. Perhaps, as Graycap says, there was something there at the beginning but he made his choices long ago.

He has a great voice, but yes extremely overrated

Most of his music is boring. The only time I really dug his stuff is when he guested as vocalist on a cover album of music by the Roots band

Not inherently but it's still a big flaw to have within the game in which he's a player. Even in today's star-barren scene, Legend comes off as basic.

His talent isn't bountiful enough to overlook his genericness. No, that's not worthy of being subject to scorn but his selling out is.

If u can find his music when he used his real name...u would see just how good he really was. That was some good material.

when someone said someone is "full of hate"... it was stated as a fact...in turn i ask, how is he "full of hate?"...still no answers...i can dig people not feeling his music... but to make extremely negative assumptions on his character with no reason, is whats "full of hate"

No one owes you an explanation for ANYTHING they say! If I say that he is "full of hate" then obviously I have my reason for saying so, or else I wouldn't have said it, but I do not have to explain to you the reason why I said it....you got that?

He is a Capricorn Sun Sign. Capricorns are hard workers, tend to have more than one job/career. Many musicians are Capricorns.

Mr. John Legend is not only a real singer, he is also:

a musician, song writer, record producer, actor, film producer, theatre director, and philanthropist.

*In my opinion, the overrated singers are the one's who can't sing by their own merit/talent, they need technical assistance from auto-tune, etc.

Not everyone has the same music genre preference!
