It´s fascinating how this genre could lead to so many good and memorable songs even though they kept using the same musical elements over and over again. I mean, it is a bit like having to make a hamburger or pizza and four or five chefs have the same ingredients in the kitchen, and yet they all come up with different tasting burgers in the end. lol

Interesting way to look at it smile

Seduction "You're My One And Only (True Love)
One of my favorite songs. There is an interesting story behind it.The lead vocals are actually sung by Martha Wash (who was never a member of the group) eek The producers asked her to sing on it and she did, thinking it was just a demo that someone else would sing later. But they kept her vocals, but altered her voice so that you can’t really tell that it’s her.She later sued them and won.

Really? Well, Seduction was produced by David Cole and Robert Clivilles whose C+C Music Factory went on to steal her vocals for "Everybody Dance Now". How many times did she let that happen? lol

There was actually a joke on RuPaul's Drag Race last week about "Name 5 Seduction songs" as Michelle Visage is a regular judge.

Is Michelle Visage still performing with Seduction? I hope she knows people love that music. She was like the group's Teena Marie.

lol...oddly enough she let it happen a couple of times biggrin then in the mid-90s,she patched things up with them. She appears on their 1994 album Anything Goes, receiving proper credit and acknowledgment this time. She also toured with them throughout 1995.

How come that this type of music is more of an NYC/Miami and L.A thing and never really caught on in other areas?

Does it have to do with the higher number of Hispanics and Latinos?

And what´s with the genre name Freestyle? From what I remember the name came from the group Freestyle and for some reason people started calling this whole genre like the group....Freestyle...and it kind of stuck. That´s how I remember it. Is there any other story?

Possibly.I'm just glad that I lived in an area (the Bay Area) where it was really popular smile

I used to know it as Latin hip-hop in the 80s.

YES !

That´s the term we used, too, before it somehow turned into Freestyle.

I had completely forgotten about that.

Latin Hip Hop.

I always say that, contrary to popular belief, disco never really died...it just evolved. In the 80s,we had house music, freestyle, and “dance music”....all cut from the same cloth as 70s disco.

I just LOVE this thread so I had to come back and post one more video. wink

This is Crybaby by Abra, the song was released in 2016.

I discovered her music on Youtube four or five years ago and can´t get enough of her.

Truly addictive beats and melodies and romantic lyrics.

Great new talent. Go check her out, you´ll love her.

Many of her songs contain some 80s elements but as far as I know she doesn´t use samples. She´s quite talented and produced her early music in her bedroom on a Macbook with Garageband. I´ve been listening to her music a lot lately.

This is one of her songs that is a bit reminiscent of Freestyle but she is very versatile and has many styles.

I think I have a crush on her ! lol

edit; I wonder why the link came out weird and does not show the clip this time. I didn´t do anything differently why copying and pasting the link into the brackets. neutral
