I bought the Anthology Book, and really, these guys learned their stuff the hard way.
Rubber Soul is exceptional because of the sixties London alignment of the stars.
The Beatles story is really the stuff of legends, they were the first suprised.

Yes. And I know what you're getting at BUT I don't have to dig ALL his influences to get HIM. I'm not 100% convinced Prince's funk lineage would have been vastly different anyway, JB was still relevant in the 70's and doing great hybrid funk/disco. Don't worry, I've given it some thought, so no flippant, quick bullshit answer here.

I bought all the Pfunk stuff via boxsets/compilatons. I DID give them due respect in my original post (musicianship etc) Just wish i liked it more. I knew I'd take some flack, but come on, people be saying the Beatles are overrated? Really? 'I am the Walrus', 'Yellow Submarine'? Stick a funky beat on those? = Funkadelic. Without the Beatles wacky bullshit, No PFunk neither. A paradox. Right?

i can get with this statement...i've never really rated them, or paid much attention. they're just not really my thing; but i saw them on austin city limits, and man, it was one of the best rock n roll performances i've ever seen. i really enjoyed watching them...i'm probably not gonna go out and buy some records, but i'd watch them perform again.

I think the OP means "underseved success or fame".

I could never get into Morrissey or The Smiths, everyone seemed to love them growing up. Same with The Cure, sure there are a few good albums. I used to feel the same way towards Depeche Mode then I had a bout of depression and now I love them.

I struggle with some of The Cure's output, but the Pornography and Disintegration albums are both masterpieces ... just wish the rest of their catalogue was at the same level.

The Smiths I only 'got' a couple of years back ... an older co-worker who was a teen during the eighties got me in to them when we went to see a UK tribute band (The Smyths ... very good btw). Again, I don't like all of their stuff but the tracks I do enjoy are fantastic ... There's A Light That Never Goes Out is one of the greatest songs ever IMO. Having said all that, Morrissey is an absolute pr*ck these days!

If you get the chance to see them in person for cheap (they usually do big stadium shows, so good ticket availability) treat yourself, you'll have a blast.

With them, and other artists I like ... Foo Fighters, Madonna, Springsteen, Prince ... you just know that even if they hadn't made it famous they'd still be playing music on the weekends in some little pub somewhere because they love doing it so much.

I love that vibe off a performer and I can usually tell the ones that are on stage performing because they absolutely love it, money and fame or no money and fame.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - they were pretty good for a brief moment when they had Hillel Slovak, George Clinton produced them and Anthony Kiedis was a fun obnoxious show-off. Since then they have been the most tone-deaf tuneless unmusical band out there.

I dont know how one person decides if some band is overrated to them but then in the same time says "I do not like their style of music". Then keep the overrated judgement to the styles of music you like. No one gives a flying if you dont like Pink Floyd and only listen to r&b and pop.

I really did listen to Ok Computer..fell asleep on it. Listened to it again....got a headache. maybe one day I will like them, however I just couldnt. I really did try. Child I donloaded the whole album since it was supposed to be epic and experimental and all that. Yeah and while it was experimental and all I just could not get into it. Just didnt fit him, even though everyone else loved it...I just dont. I think maybe I dont like Thom Yorke's voice. Just doesnt do anything for me like Drake or Taylor Swifts vocals. They just don't carry me. Prince singing "Creep" though...yes lawd.
