What 80s/90s R&B group/artist do you want to come back?

Lately there has been a big resurgence of 80s/90s r&b groups. Xscape, New Edition, TLC, etc
Xscape is actually bigger today than they ever were.
I've heard 702 were trying to come back(who cares) and Jodeci. I guess everyone is trying to get on the bandwagon.

I'd like to see the original EnVogue and the original Destiny Child do a reunion.

I wouldn't go so far un saying Xscape is bigger now than they were in the 90s. They had five top ten singles in a 5 year span in the 90s. Tiny and Candi may have a name now but thats as far as it goes.

Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis had a name when the Time got back together just a few years back and it went nowhere.

A lot of those acts still perform, in some way. Like Freedom Williams from C+C Music Factory. Maybe some don't put out records because they don't have a deal. Bell Biv DeVoe did release an album earlier this year. The ones who do release new music, it's not given a big push. So is mostly ignored by the public, who either doesn't know about it or is not interested. Like when Rod Stewart did those standards albums, he was seen on TV talk shows and other programs. People knew about them and they sold well, even without getting much radio airplay.

Color Me Badd (the original 4, although Sam Watters doesn't really perform anymore)

The Jacksons (releasing a record, not just touring. Maybe Randy can participate in that)

Digable Planets (not R&B, but they've been touring 2 years straight now. So I'd like to hear some new music)

I wanted Kris Kross to do some new stuff, but Mac Daddy passed away not long after they reunited at the So So Def Anniversary concert

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

TLC never stopped playing together. The Kickstarter for their album was the fastest in history. People like Katy Perry & others were donating $10K for their album. They said the album is their last as a group, but they'll still keep performing as TLC.

We're covering En Vogue in anot...ent thread, actually. It won't happen. D.C. did for the Super Bowl, and that's probably it for now.

Even Bananarama are singing together again. They were just on Graham Norton recently.

It's sorta be some cheesy nostalgia to see Hootie & The Blowfish together again for something. Jon Secada, Robin S., Crystal Waters.

Yes to all of these. Klymaxx had a regrouping in 2004 with Bands Reunited. They were active online w/ the fan base in chat rooms, etc. Lynn, Loretta, Bernadette, and Joyce were the ones in there. Cheryl was out, and Robin was in some situation that she didn't participate in the show or the reunion. Lynn ended up leaving in a year's time (if not less) because she was taking care of her dad. Bernadette & Joyce still toured under the name and sometimes Loretta joined them. They got other girls to join the group. Cheryl Cooley continued to tour under the name Klymaxx, despite agreeing not to but agreeing to "Cheryl Cooley, formerly of Klymaxx". Her version of the band is shittastic (they do Sheila E covers, too because...well).

Kool & The Gang with JT is the only one I'm interested in.

thanks for this...I checked it out and found they reformed and just released a whole new album "Metamorphosis" couple months ago

The song "My Best Friend" is a remake of the same song on their Time album...but the rest are pretty good, i really like the album......Brothers Wayne & Jonathan are still in group with a younger guy (sounds like David a lot) and a great female co-lead

Nah I don't quite remember it that way. They may have r&b hits but no crossover singles like SWV, EnVogue and TLC. Those groups were always much bigger than them.

I wonder if it went nowhere due to creative differences?

As mentioned above, definitely the Jacksons releasing a studio album again. Jermaine Jackson solo (a proper funky/soulful R&B thing like some of his recent singles, not jazz covers). Angela Winbush. Oh yeah, and the comeback Chic/Nile Rodgers album that's been mooted for basically forever.

I realized after I wrote Menudo I should have clarified which version. The 80s version with Robby, Ricky Martin, Charlie, Roy and Ricky Melendez! The Reaching Out version.

I remember the lineup that had the Saturday morning TV show on ABC or NBC, which was pre-Ricky Martin. They were on Silver Spoons too. I think they were the one who had a movie (in Spanish) too, or maybe the movie were the originals from the 1970s. I don't remember because I haven't seen it since then.

I have that but I was hoping that would be the beginning of a decent run of new material from them. Unfortunately it was just a one off. Besides, that was 6 years ago. I was only 21 when that album came out. So much has happened since then and with Prince's passing the cynic in me thought it might convince The Time to get back on track and use the extra publicity. Damn them for having too much respect!

I agree. But Jesse, being the ever-troubled-soul-about-money-like-Dawn-Robinson, cut that run short.

The originals, including Jesse, performed at the 2017 Grammys with Bruno Mars. The camera guys mostly focused on Morris, Jerome, and people dancing in the audience though.

Shalamar has been together for a few years now. Not with Jody, who has her own lineup, but with Carolyn Griffey. Micki Free has occasionally appeared with Howard's lineup. This is their new song.

Jody & Howard did take a photo together in 2016 when they happened to see each other at an airport

Jody has also performed with Gerald Brown (who was in Shalamar before Howard) and recorded a new song with him in 2014.
