Nice song but they need to take that auto tune off Howard's voice. He has one of the best voices in the music industry. He doesn't need any help.

Looks like Micki Free stood in for Jeffrey for a show in August of this year

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

OMG they are not very good sad

.

The keyboardist is not paying the riff correctly, Howard sounds like his voice is out of breath (what???) and Carolyn looks like a female bodybuilder!

.

.

Jody's version is much better.

Carolyn's been like that. You can see her in this video when she was in the 1990s girl group Absolute. She has a jacket on for most of the video, but you can see she's buff at the beginning during the talking part. If you look closely, Jeffrey Daniel is somewhere in the video

I've seen Jody's Shalamar live and they sound much better, in terms of vocals and music.

.

Judging by this video, the Carolyn version sounds like a bad cover band. I don't know why Howard isn't blowing it away cuz he is the best SINGER out of eveyrone.

Jody's version of Shalamar is terrible.Did you hear their song "Original"? barf it is dreadful

At least "The Real Thing" has a classic old school R&B sound, which I like. And thankfully,it has no unnecessary hip-hop elements.

I'm not referring to their new song.

I'm talking about their live show vs. this clip of this version's live show. This version linked above is not very good as a live performance, whereas Jody's live show is great..

.

Some of it could be the sound quality but as I said, the band isn't doing a very good job and the singing is sub par

While the song is actually ok, in a nutshell, it's sometimes best to step away and be remembered for what was. Shalamar was a very hot group in its day with the memorable lineup of Howard Hewett, Jody Watley, and Jeffrey Daniel. However, much time has passed since then and it's clearly showing with that of Hewett's voice. Not to mention, the group's live stage performance(s) seem out of sync and tired. I'm aware that anything of the past ever done so spectacular can never be reduplicated or recaptured in the same way. That is why imo, certain things should be let go and truly be remembered for its time of greatness.
