I have to disagree with you all, I love Invincible and its a great album, there are some lesser songs but songs like Break of Dawn, Speechless, Unbreakable whatever happens, heaven can wait, YRMW, Butterflies and 2000 Watts are just dope. I think he still had it. The album is only bad in the sense it is not as good as the albums before it, and he may have been a bit past it by then. . I actually think Invincible should have done better, 2001 was a yuck year for music, songs like I got high by Afroman and the terrible cover of Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm were hits and people like Ja Rule and Nelly were the trend setters along with Sisqo and the rest. I mean really, Invincible was the one bright spot in a terrible year (Remembering Prince gave us the super shitty Rainbow Children dogma experience). In my hometown, YRMW was introduced as early as the end of June of 2001, and month later Butterflies, then by August, both songs were played back to back during peak hours on the airwaves.
Rodney Jerkins did an interview w/VIBE magazine during the spring of 1999 already letting the public know he and Michael was in the studio in the beginning stages of producing his latest record..... | |

Yes but the positivity in the song was refreshing "You're beautiful, you're wonderful, incredible" compared all the Ja Rule, fake thugs plenny of wommin type shit blowing up the charts. Think of it, that next to songs like the sweat drip from my ballz and move bitch, get out of the way. . MJ was one of the last pop singers to make songs that did not call women bitches or hoes, sing about drugs and shooting people, while drinking champagne and hennasee wearing bling bling by Gucci. I played it all and I guess it's unfair to compare it to his past and take it for what it is. It's good but not his greatest work. Scorpio-I think you've got your months mixed up. It was in July of 2001 as per the mjifc fan club it was announced that you rock my world will be the first single. If it started charting at least mid August, then late July/early August for being played underground before the leak sounds believable. June is utter bullshit. Sorry but it's true. what activity took place at a fan club doesn't dictate timeframe of when something actually happened.
I didn't say YRMW was released as a official single in June of 2001, I said that's when the leading urban station in my hometown first played it on the airwaves as a promo to w/the intention of stoking interest in the future release of Invinbible four months later....
the problem, or I should say the confusion is centers around who was put in position to promote what and what the whole intension of that album was, INVINCIBLE was geared towards the urban audience, that's why the perception has been given by commerical entertainment sources that the album never received adequate promotion, it was not geared towards Pop radio like Dangerous and History was

He obviously knew the same thing you are saying based on who he felt he had to work with to get noticed. All the hot artists at the time. Still did it well but I would be lying if I said there was no redundancy with invincible. I remember him appearing with jay z, and before that at jingle ball. Release dates kept coming out and getting pushed back from 99-01. I am beginning to believe with time, and rightfully so due to what he endured anxiety was keeping him from coming back sooner. I think at the point of the millennium would have been fabulous, and then those millennium concerts had to get cancelled  I wonder if he felt worried prince would be overshadowed for his hbo special cause I dont think there was a need to and it would have been massive for both. I know he had a back injury, kids, lupus, hay fever, whatever but too many excuses I still feel sad for him and wish things were better than they turned out but it all is too upsetting and it's best now for me personally not to focus on it all the time although it's so Unjust and angering what happened and absolutely not ok, and no pun intended, dangerous.

Yes, I agree with this almost 100% (I liked Rainbow Children). Invincible is a very underrated album. It was shit on by a lot of critics because it wouldn't have mattered if MJ had released a masterpiece, the same critics still would have shit on it. I mentioned before in another thread that Michael Jackson was underrated by a lot of the music press because he was so famous for things he did outside of music. And despite reports saying the album flopped it was still a huge seller. Most artists would kill for a "flop" like that. | |

So, a couple friends of mine run The MJ Cast, one of the best Michael Jackson podcasts out there. Think of your favorite Prince podcasters - whether it's Peach & Black, or Michael Dean, etc....That's the calibre of The MJ Cast, for MJ fans.
I approached them a while back about having a full on round table discussion about Prince and Michael, respectfully comparing and discussing their careers, their feelings about each other, their different approaches to making music, etc, etc. The aim being that people who are mostly into one, might learn about the other. The recording was a huge success, and went on for so long that it's been split into two episodes. The discussion group was made up of very knowledgeable fans (including myself) all of whom are fans of both artists and can intellectually discuss both without silly tabloid rivalry discussions. It was a fantastic discussion with lots of different opinions and great topics covered.

Looks great, I wanna give it a spin too, anyone who is into Prince and Michael Jackson deserves my respect. We are a rare breed. . 214, Prince mayhave called women bitches a couple of times, but the majorityof his times, the song was about love and sex in a sensual rather than filthy way. Prince had more sensitivity than the artists I refer too, shit hoppers, dirty R and B singers like Missy Elliot and R Kelly. Before people say I play the race card, I also meant most metal acts and rock acts that sing about women as products and whores. But MJ never ever called a woman a bitch or a ho in his songs and always sung sincere love songs, not disgusting rape lyrics. Even break of dawn which is about all night getting your freak on is presneted sweetly and beautifully.
