Indeed a loss to music. Another gut punch... sad Makes me feel older than the hills, and I'm not even old yet... R.I.P. Mr. Worrell. Thank you for the funk.

RIP Bernie. I love this clip. At 4:04 mark Bernie does something crazy on the keys and Bootsy looks back like. "What was that?" Then he smiles. That funky riff was too much. cool

He had one heck of a run didn't he? He knows where "the gift" came from. Oh what a time if I could hear him Garry, Glen & Boogie up there doing a divine Plainfield version of Swing Down Sweet Chariot.

I met the man a few times and had the privilege of hanging with him back about '99.
Let me tell you, he was love and unselfishness personified.

Well done Wizard

RIP

RIP. pray Although I have to say, in this case, we saw it coming. We knew he was ill and then you know that one day, this news is going to come. What hit us so hard about Prince and Bowie was how unexpected it all was. But yeah, it's not a happy year for music... And we're only half way... sad

I love it, and Bernie was good for stuff like that. One of my favourite performances from him is from the Heart Trouble reworking released on Toys. Especially from 2:24 onward, it's like Bach meets Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey or something. lol

one of my all-time music heroes, don't want to believe it's true. A complete original and innovator who I put right there with my other keyboard idol Herbie Hancock. Only wish he could have done even more with George Clinton throughput the 1980s and 1990s. His parliament funkadelic works will never be matched. The textures, atmosphere and nastiness he brought was like from another world. I love you bw, rest in peace my funky brother.

If you've got funk, you've got style.

A master musician and innovator. I will always treasure my experience of seeing him perform live with Pfunk back in 2005. It was an absolutely mind blowing 40 minute keyboard interlude....just him onstage while the rest of the crew took a break. I was positively transfixed. cool

That was with George Clinton & the P-Funk All Stars?
I remember seeing Bernie with Bootsy's Rubber Band in 95 and he also did a synth solo, although it didn't last that long. He also did a solo tour with his own band two years later and then I realized that, as great as he was on the keys, he just wasn't a front man.

Yes, he was gigging with George again around that time. I remember thinking when he came back onboard he was not as good of a "fit" with that current unit as he had been in years past. Nonetheless, he was still Bernie though.
I still think his most versatile band was the latest incarnation, the Bernoe Worrell Orchestra. This crack tight crew could do it all.

nod

Garry Shider was still alive too. I ran from him onstage because he looked nekkid under that diaper.....ewww, lol

I went over to the other side and danced with the guy playing Sir Nose, he was younger than expected, not the original.

Performance wise, I thought Bernie fit pretty well but I never saw them live in their earlier incarnation.

Band was kinda ragged in them days. The Dr was in the throes of his crack habit and basically asleep at the wheel. Bernie was trying to tighten the band up. His wife/manager is not too crazy about George at all. So anytime he comes back on board sooner or later we knew it wasn't to last. Plus he had so many other things going on musically it seemed he was connected to the whole world of music.

Sounds like I was very fortunate to catch him when I did.

Oops, forgot to ask....do you know why comes she doesn't like George?

it should be noted all the great and often experimental work he did with bill laswell in the 80s and 90s, especially praxis with Bootsy and buckethead.

I have one called Transmutation on the Axiom label. Did this Praxis (that's actually a hardware store in the Netherlands) group make more albums?
