And Billie Jean ?

I liked it as a kid (of course), but I honestly think it's one of MJs more overrated tracks. boxed

What is this heresy? razz Billie Jean is probably one of the greatest pop songs ever conceived.

The Girl is Mine is a nice song, but I personally would have replaced it with Carousel, but perhaps MJ didn't want to overburden his album with Rod Temperton songs.

I think I prefer the rawer demo version of The Girl Is Mine... I normally love everything Quincy does, but I think his production smothered the life out of that song a little bit. I like all of the MJ/PM duets... I'm glad I got the new Say Say Say vinyl late last year.

Me too, the demo is great, specially the intro.

Carousel it's a nice song, but i wish it wasn't a love song. I love these lines: "She's from a world
of popcorn and candy pony rides for a dime little children laughing I'm from a world of disapointments and confusions" and these lines: "what i can't recall is if there was a girl at all or was it my imagination? i still remember all of those faces and now all i have is memories".

'Billie Jean' suffers from the same problem as 'Bad'...PLASTIC FUNK. It's a little surprising as MJ stole the beat from Rick James' "Ghetto Life", but MJ focused his funk on the synthesizer and not the bass line...PLASTIC

Wow this post and your previous post are such a elitistic bullsh.t

plastic funk?

So if artist use synths and their make music to have a futuristic vibe its not a real musicianship?

if you know anything about real musicianship you would know that

synth bass line on Baby Be Mine is 10 times more musical than girl is mine.

You can do great music and display great musicianship with synths

and drum machines.

you are very narow minded.

As I originally said, the majority of the 'Thriller' album has that 80s electronic sound...NOT NECESARRILY A BAD THING...I just PREFER a more authentic sound. Never said I disliked 'Billie Jean', actually admitted to liking it as a youngster, but I do think the song is overrated. It's a classic, of course, but the funk doesnt 'stand up' in my humble opinion, and it is pretty far from my favorite MJ track. To each his own...

What's all this got to do with McCartney & Jackson duets?
Shouldn't this talk be in the M. Jackson sticky?
Where are the mods when you need them?

"Carousel" is a really nice song! music Michael should have used that song on another project, but I think he probably felt that it's too similiar to "Human Nature".

In which way, do not find similarities. Human Nature is much better.

the two songs don't sound exactly alike, but they're similiar.I really think that's why "Carousel" was left off the album.

I have always loved Paul's features with MJ. Take for instance "Say Say Say" that was on PAUL MCARTNEY Pipes of Peace album. The video IS EMAZING!!!!! Cartney is old but MJ is so deliciously sexay in the video. The jerri curls and that sexi straight full white teeth smile, bawl gawd I miss him. See video below and give your thoughts? Whose vocals did you like better between MJ and Pual on PAUL MCARTNEY'S Say Say Say song?

Disclaimer: But oh this thread is not about MJ I promise. thumbs up!

It was a fail for Paul to collab with MJ vocally because it shows just how weak his vocals are compared to him, thoughts? I feel the same way about their other duets.

Paul McCartney's vocals are not "weak." There's a reason why he was selected to sing lead when
the Beatles performed Little Richard tunes. And there's no "failure" with McCartney's work with
Michael Jackson; you don't have to disparage him in order to highlight how much you like MJ.

How does the funk "stand up?" What does an "authentic sound" sound like? And finally, I wrote
a paper on "Billie Jean" in a pop music composition class once, so please tell me how it is overrated?

Imagine the bass groove of "Billie Jean" played on a BASS GUITAR...not a synthesizer (maybe I'm wrong, but I dont hear BASS, I hear keys). It worked as it was and the song is a classic, but just IMAGINE. That's all I'm saying. To me, it sounds plastic. As for the song being overrated, there are a few MJ tracks that "stand out" to me...The Way You Make Me Feel, Off the Wall, Working Day and Night, Man in the Mirror, Human Nature...to me, Billie Jean is not his most fantabulous work. I UNDERSTAND why folks think it is, because of the impact the song and video had, but I honestly prefer Wanna Be Startin Something. Just my opinion...

Wait...

Louis Johnson doesn't play the bass on "Billie Jean?" I think you're mistaken, bro. And I still have
no clue what you're talking about where it concerns funk standing up, authentic sounds, and why
"Billie Jean" is overrated.
