TV ONE Unsung is back (2016)

With episodes of Johnnie Taylor (yes!), Patrice Rushen, Sugar Hill Gang and Donell Jones. Not too excited about their Hollywood Unsung. Who the hell is Joe Morton? New York Undercover and Fred Williamson will be nice though.

Who the Hell is scene-stealing-Emmy winning Joe Morton?....Shame....shame....SHAME.....Joe (or Papa Pope) is one of the Greatest Dramatic Actors The Entertainment World has ever produced...His Energy during a scene rivals Denzel....Don't even bother Googling....here's a mainstream clue....Did you Watch Terminator 2: Judgement Day? Remember he was the Black Scientist that was responsible for giving birth to the Androids?

My mom will be really happy about this. biggrin JT is just about the only act she plays a lot. Him and The Temptations (mostly 1960s thru early 1970s era).

I don't know who he is (Joe Morton.) I googled him and he looks familiar though. I recognize him from a few things. He's not a houshold name.

Well, yeah he is. He's done a lot of Broadway work in addition to television and film. He's a talented, veteran actor. Educate yourself on him and his work a little more.

I remember him from A Different World. He's not a household name though. I would have known him instead of saying "who is this guy?"

Guys like Sam Jackson, Cuba Gooding Jr, hell even Blaire Underwood are more recognizable names.

I don't know who Donell Jones is. There's nobody I'm really interested in on the Hollywood Unsung, which was the case on many of the ones already broadcast, although I watched them. I used to watch NY Undercover sometimes when it originally came on, but don't really care about the behind the scenes. I'd be interested in an episode about That's My Mama though.

As much as you are good at Educating the Org on most things Music I'm surprised you never heard of R&B singer Donell Jones...If you listened to R&B radio in the late 90's he was there and his songs were played on all the mainstream R&B stations....So you prolly never heard of R&B singer Dave Hollister? Donell & Dave are not household names but if you Listen to R&B radio you should know them...

Blair Underwood more of a household name than Joe Morton? ohgoon Oh goodness. That's laughable. We'll just have to agree to disagree, but really, you should come up on your knowledge of actors. Just because you had to say "who's this guy" doesn't mean the whole world does. You're the one who's missing out. lol

LBC you losing the Joe Morton argument dawg. You alone on this one. He is a far more accomplished actor than you give him credit for and please leave that Blair
Underwood shit alone. lol That's like comparing Stacey Dash to Vanessa Williams. Of course Blair resume is better than Stacey's but not in the same
stratosphere with Joe Morton.
Definitely Google. Joe's career go as far back as Grady's son in law on Sanford
And Son and an episode of What's Happening as the department store manager when Raj won that dice game money and wanted to buy his mom a birthday present. Dude had a resume long before A Different World.

And had the funk (a TOTAL deal-breaker in her day if you were lacking) and could play real instruments (well) and could move grown seasoned adult people emotionally and spiritually and on top of that was a very good looking woman. I submit the following for anyone else who may be confused and is getting these two mixed up (gasp!):

No offense to Joe Morton, but he is not a household name. How have I not heard the name? And I keep up with my black celebs. Now I know the face so now I know who he is, but just by name I was clueless.

I guess he really is Unsung .... the definition of it, lol.

But he been in the game 40+ years. And people only know him from the past 2 years. He's not a household name, sorry.

Like earlier I didn't know who he was (by name) until I googled him. Once I seen his face than I said "I know this dude."

Show of hands how many people knew his name before he was in Scandal?

Dude how many artists and actors have this series shown that are more popular
than the description. Everybody here is telling you the guy is one of the most
accomplished black actors in the game and you still acting the damn fool. lol
Your boy Joe Tex is not a household name even among blacks. No disrespect. Most people only know 2 songs by him. Joe Tex is a more fitting description of being under the radar.

That must be it, I didn't. lol From those videos posted, never heard of the 1st song. I recognized the 2nd song as I hear it on the local urban contemporary/adult R&B station today. He sounds like one of those anonymous Joe style singers I didn't like and why I didn't listen to R&B radio of that time. I didn't like much neo soul either, acts like D'Angelo and Angie Stone I couldn't get into. It was buppie music to me. lol I did like Chico DeBarge though. During that time I think I was listening to dance music like Ace Of Base, Anastacia, Jamiroquai, Crystal Waters, etc. Maybe Shania Twain. I liked that Limp Bizkit song Nookie.

Surprised Patrice hadn't been done earlier. I've often heard she assisted Prince on his first album in some way.

According to the liner notes for his greatest hits compilation album (The Hits/The B Sides) Prince wrote I Wanna Be Your Lover for her as well as Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad. He definitely had/has a thing for female musicians. Definitely looking forward to seeing the ep devoted to her.

Whatever happened to Ace of Base? The GRAMMYS would nominate them all the time during the 90's...
